Re: Osama Bin Laden: Dead At Last

Does anyone besides me, find it extremely convenient that this occurred just in time for Obama to start campaigning for re-election?
Oh, you're just bitter :p :D

Re: Osama Bin Laden: Dead At Last

Conspiracies abound already, some of them already mentioned in this thread! In no particular order:

This business is meant to distract from the birth certificate mess.
The Birth Certificate mess was meant to distract from this business.
This business is was timed to give him a boost for re-election.
We didn't kill him, he's still out there.
We did kill him, but we gave the body back to his family for burial.
This was timed so no one would notice Superman renouncing his American citizenship.(Yes that's a thing, see action comics #900, I think.)

These are just the ones I think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more out there...

Well, one I heard was:

He died 5/2/2011.

5+2+2=9
9/11

Apparently, it was also an exact 8 years from when Bush held the "Mission accomplished" speech. I didn't check the dates, but someone said that to me at work. It might be, it would be really convenient for the people in politics though.

It bothers me a little that nearly every reaction I've heard has been something like "FUCK YES I HATED THAT GUY".

It also bothers me that we're celebrating so much over just one guy. Since they hide in tiny cells spread across so many different cities and in the mountains, I assume Al Qaeda is a pretty decentralized organization - how much damage will this one man's death do?

In a short term, not very much. It doesn't take a genius to design a terrorist attack and they don't have any reason for centralized control of all cells - quite opposite, as the records that would require would make them vulnerable - so the cells are fairly independent. In the long term, if they don't get another charismatic leader(or the charismatic leader isn't quite as charismatic as Osama was)? Well, for one thing, they won't get as much sympathy. That means fewer people will co-operate with them, more people will be willing to rat on them and they will get less recruits. Anything more precise is difficult to estimate(as I'm by no means expert or even particularly well-versed in the subject - and likely even if I was), but I'd imagine that the overall long term effects might be pretty large.

Apparently we found a shitload of computers and hard drives and whatnot at this mansion, so this could have much greater consequences than anyone could have originally guessed.

Osama was killed on May 2nd, 2011; Hitler was comformed dead on May 2nd, 1945. Was this Obama's idea?

Because Osama's dead. It's a big deal to some people. It will never die... until the next big world shattering event comes into the news. Like Bieber shaving his head, or Tupac's newest album, or Kanye West whining to the media.

HOLY CHRIST! DEMAND THREAD CHANGE NOW.
I always just joked about him having a big head because of that stupid hair, but he does actually have a GIGANTIC head.

Looks like South Park will have to do a BEIBAH WAWTCH! (if they can stop being terrible this season)
