Re: Tentacle Thread

Maybe it's an issue of regional settings/unicode? I remember it being discussed a while ago that 7zip needs unicode to unpack japanese files without messing up the filenames.
That is true, japanese Uni-Code has to be installed to work properly in case of japanese filenames.

I am using 7zip for years and I find it to be faster and to reduce the compressed file size more than other applications. And TBH the options and customizations 7zip offers are more than enough for me.

Actually I've always used 7zip for absolutely everything and never had a problem.

WinRar needs unicode sometimes, which you can solve by using applocale.

Can you set passwords in 7zip? I have never tried to compress with 7zip yet.

Yes you can, and honestly I've never really tried Winzip, mostly because I'm a cheapskate and 7zip is free.

Yeah, I've been using 7zip for about 6-8 years and have never had a problem once with it. Any problems I've ever had with zips is them being corrupted on download or having passwords. Only problem I have with 7zip is that it doesn't have a built in password cracker lol...but then again no other zip program does. :p

WinRar is easily crack-able. But then on that note, if 7zip can do what WinRar can, why spend time cracking WinRar when 7zip is free?

From my knowledge the only possible way to crack these zipping passwords is to use a brute force method, which can result in years, or even decades, of trial and error. In other words, it is nigh impossible to crack the user set passwords.

The answer is very easy, they spend time cracking winrar because it isn't free. If it would be free they wouldn't need to spend time with cracking. :)

Seriously, the question is not why they crack it, rather why people use it. TBH I think because people are stupid (including myself), because winrar is more popular (older) and people like the ways look easier. BUT I use 7zip in order to make people leave this bad conditioning. If they want to see my shares they have to DL 7zip and once they start using it... they learn its advantages by themselves.

Re: Tentacle Thread

I once used 7zip to download an update for Slave Maker.

Several files just didn't work. They were extracted fine with WINRAR. So that's what I mainly use, it doesn't fuck up.

I don't use 7zip and I can access your files just fine.

Then you are a WIZARD. :) Ofc, other applications like winrar, winzip, TC can also handle the files compressed by 7zip.

EDIT: It is really me!

Re: Tentacle Thread

as awesome of a winrar replacer 7zip is even for me, sadly there just are sometimes when it just wont be able to extract successfully or claims the archive is corrupt (98% of the time they tend to be .zip files) which is why ive settled to just keep both, while mainly using just 7zip and have winrar as a sort of a debuggers.

I just checked the links, they seem to be working for me. You might want to specify which parts are down.

Been out for a while now, but thanks notifying people. I must say that Pandra 2 is way better than the prequel. I'll be getting back into my upload gear over the weekend to fix links and post up more content.

Ah .- . I didn't know when it was out, I check torrent daily and today was the first time I notice it.
