Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

So I tested out the translation, and I'd say that it was pretty satisfying. Good work. I did have the problem of the others, and I couldn't get battles to work. Also, there were two H-scenes that weren't translated. The one where you lose to a trap in the weird fleshy dungeon, and the other where you lose to the second encounter of the tengu. Also, the spa scene in the gallery isn't translated either, but I'm just saying that out loud. I can go without that one, but the other two would be nice to have in english.

Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

Apologies for all the fails. I tried to embellish the patch with notepad++ and it appears to have replaced some things it shouldn't have... I can only hope that this one works with no more fails. Just put the file in your game directory, it will automatically translate most of the game, pretty much anything that isn't system related. You should restore your previous data.xp3, that way most of the previously encountered errors should be fixed. The problem with ending the game remains, but I have no idea about what is causing it. Sorry for all the inconveniences, I really hope this one works. This time ALL scenes should work properly, at least they did when I tested them out.

Strange, in that case you might have gotten something wrong, maybe you added a letter by accident or something? I just tried downloading it without being logged in and it worked just fine for me, so it shouldn't be an issue. Here, try this one and replace the hxxps with https

hxxps://mega.co.nz/#!mN8ylIAB!5trcwXAyrap5oOzL9RiP4PejclHEWOwbQnaro1K0pIU

then report if the issue remains. If anyone else has that problem, please leave a message as well. Here's an alternative link, should the problem remain.

I reverted back to the original data.xp3 file and put the patch.xp3 file in the folder and it works now. I created a new game and went through the "tutorial" start to finish.

The game still craps out when you exit the program. Just make sure you close all the error windows (or close them in the task manager) and you can restart the game just fine.

Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

Okay, I'm either not understanding how to implement this properly, or it just doesn't like me in general. It starts up with the old data.xp3 file no problem...but when I put the new one in the base folder, it crashes immediately on start.

I'm thinking I missed a step or something...because the old .xp3 file is like 119MB...and the new one is like 204KB...?

Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

Hm, just wondering, did anyone test it already? If so, what would you say? Does it need more work, is there some stuff I should improve? Or is it fine the way it is? I put a lot of time into it already and don't know if it needs to be improved any more. It's enough to understand everything, I think, or are there any problems with it? Or errors? If not I guess I can leave it at that, but please give me some feed-back here, it's my first translation attempt.
I tested it and, again, other than the wonky error you get when you close the program, its fine.

The translation isn't perfect (a lot of the conversations aren't "natural" sounding) and there are a LOT of parts where words are broken between two lines.

ie. Hi my user name is imer
cenary. I am posting on th
e ulmf forums.

Theres also the fact that anything that is displayed as a picture is untranslated (read: menus) and save/load files seem to switch between English and Japanese (although I didn't test this too much).

Theres obviously room for improvement, but given game's sparse dialogue (its pretty much just the camping scenes, before/after bosses and the kitsune inn) and heavy usage of onomatopoeias (can't really do much about those), I'd say just proofread it one more time, upload a "final" version with readme instructions and move on.

I think you have to use the patch data that you get from their last mega upload and use it with the old (not translated) xp3 file that was already with the game.

So leave it as patch.xp3 and put it in the base folder with the original data.xp3? All I saw was stuff about replacing it...:rolleyes:

Yeah, that's what I did, and so far I've had no problems aside from the crash where you exit out of the game, but we've all talked about that.

Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

@imercenary
Thanks for the review, I'll see when I can get around to improving this translation.

Well, this was basically my old alpha version and never intended for publishing, but I messed up the beta beyond repair, so I couldn't exactly help it after disappointing anyone who first downloaded it. The words getting seperated is something I can take care of, though it will require a fair amount of effort, you can't see how much space a sentence takes before you launch the game and see the scene. A preview option would have been awesome, but I don't think there's a way to do that.

Hm, could you elaborate a little bit on the "natural" part? I tried to translate it as well as possible with just TA and guessing, but I'd gladly improve it. I mean, a lot of jokes and idioms are probably lost in that process. That's something I can't really help, since I don't know Japanese and TA doesn't recognise stuff like that. The problem with the save files is that their infos are mostly stored in the System folder, but it's better to leave any files in there alone, as I had to find out the hard way. The patch just replaces the scenario folder, which contains pretty much all of the dialogue.

Well, I could edit out the onomatopoeias, but that would remove around 30% of each H-scene. That's just how it was written, also rather repetetive, for the most part.

@Vinceras
Sorry, the new patch version of it just contains the text, if you put it to the same directory as the original data.xp3 the game will automatically load it and show the English text in the patch files. I should pobably delete all of those old messages to avoid confusion.

Translation:

Links are at the bottom of the post, just put the patch.xp3 file in the directory of the game, it will automatically apply the patch. Sorry, I deleted all previous posts to avoid confusion, so I'll keep this one as a general post I keep up to date with links, known and fixed errors and so on, to bring some order into this mess I made and avoid confusion.

Info: This translation is just a little something I did using TA and random guessing, so it isn't perfect, but still the best thing we seem to have for the moment. I'll try to improve it over time and upload new patches every now and then. The most recent patches might have some bugs, they're rather there as a beta. I'll keep a link for the old version, since I can't guarantee that the most recent ones will work as intended.

Crashes: The older one isn't that great, but it should be useable without any crashes (unless you exit the game, in which case an error message will pop up. Just close everything related to the game and you can restart it anytime, without losing anything.)

If you notice any crashes, spelling and grammar errors, nonsensical/badly formulated sentences or mistranslations just tell me, I'll fix them.

Links:
1.01: Crashing after closing the game fixed, seems to be running for me. Testing required for confirmation/error reports.

Thank you very much for all the hard work Danielwain. It may not be a perfect translation, but the fact that you took the time to even give a damn is good enough. I look forward to seeing any further improvements for the patch. Until then, keep up the good work. Thanks again!

@Alucard66691: Thanks for your kind words. I was going to do it either way for myself, but hey, I figured, why not share it with everyone? :) Doesn't seem as if many were into this kinda game, so I decided that waiting for someone to do it would probably be a waste of time. It's not really perfect or anything like that, but it's probably still better than nothing. I got a lot from this forum, so it's kinda my way of saying thanks and contributing something.
I think any errors are fixed for now, so I can work on improving the actual text now. Looking back, some of it is pretty damn awful... shouldn't have released it before properly testing everything. I'll work on it some more, so it's hopefully going to be better.

Re: CardQuest2 妖怪バスター・アカネ

Sorry, no idea why, but mega seems to change the url every now and then, for whatever reason. If anyone knows how to fix it, go ahead. Just to be sure I'll add it directly this time. Couldn't do it previously because of the file size, but it should work now.

Looking on D-gate's blog, it appears that there might be some more content coming to the game eventually, based on what the last picture on this post shows.

Hm, not at the moment, I fear. I'm working on some other stuff right now, but I might consider it. Depends on what I should translate. I guess the first one wouldn't be too bad, since it had very little in terms of story or character interactions. The text of the H-scenes isn't really a masterpiece either, most of it consists of onomatopoeias which don't work very well in English (Gudyu, jubu...) and various screams from Lydia (Hya! Ah! Guh! etc.). Translating that stuff is somewhat silly, as it doesn't really add to the experience. The second game had more in the way of dialogue and coherent text, even a story you could follow. Part 1 rather had three second explanations of why you were supposed to do what. In terms of technical stuff, that at least wouldn't be a problem. It uses the same software as the second game and I didn't have much trouble with that.

In short, I can't really tell yet. First I'll finish the other thing I'm working on, then I'll consider it. Would be about time, I suppose, since no one else seems to pick those games up.
