Nitpick: strong sales indicate that a game did enough things right.

HuniePop had a negligible amount of HCG, paper-thin characters, no character development for the protagonist, and it hid some of its content behind RNG bullshit or grind-based timesinks. These aren't desirable characteristics for a game.
This is my point; those are all subjective tastes.

There are many people who would actually enjoy characters that are paper-thin/stereotypes/tropes, for the main character to have zero character development so they can truly take his place, and they may enjoy RNG bullshit and grind-based timesinks because they want to blow/waste time.

In reality, that game might have sold well partially due to those things being in the game and enough people liking them along with everything else you listed.

One of the problems that happens when people get really into a culture, and even moreso when they start making things in that culture (games, music, art, whatever else) is that their tastes generally become richer, more "cultured" as it were, and so it skews their viewpoint on what they feel is objectively good to the majority of people.

For example, a musician might feel that overly complex pieces are superior to extremely basic, repetitive melodies, and they end up being unable to fathom how someone could ever prefer, say, Lil Jon over Buddy Rich.

This is why checking the stats on sales and getting playtesters and focus groups of people who *aren't* (in this case) super experienced at hentai games and especially people who don't make them themselves, is really vital.

You didn't say good sales tactic, you said good system, which DOES have objective standards. Structure and complexity are still measurable concepts. Weezer is, by no means, made up of amazing musicians and nothing they do is difficult, but it sells well and achieves the exact result and mood they had aspired to, but I can still objectively say there is structurally better music. Spiderman 3 netted nearly 650 million dollars and was widely critically panned while Citizen Kane lost 160,000 ($2,588,353.74 by today's standards) and I think we know where most objective standards lie in terms of movie making, any class on film direction or cameras or storytelling or anything structural will much more likely be focused on Welles

To H games, platformers are a great system, but they can still be done objectively poorly. For instance, Toonpimps invisible holes in his platforms and his inability to make proper edges so you float through corners of things is an objectively bad structural piece of a good system. While something like hentai snake is a bad system because it's an easy one, and is a lot less likely to see issue because you can't really fuck that up. And yes, anything can sell well based on it's market. Some people like eating poop, but just because it's easy and cheap to make poop sandwiches and sell them for a large net profit doesn't mean people can't objectively look at your product and tell you it's shit.


Hopefully, it turns out well Iron, it just looks, right now, terribly uncomplicated, which would make it rather unengaging, specifically in the segmentation between gameplay and H department, where I could almost rather look up H galleries online, and I wouldn't see the difference because the gameplay is separated from the H. Humans are a conditionable creature like anything else and effect/reward have to be pretty immediate and unquestionable at a subconscious level. This looks like jewels, and then hentai

Right, which is why I clarified my post was about the design of the game being good for sales, hence a good system, for sales. All of your points above make sense, of course.

Right, and I agree with this too. The games market right now as a whole is pretty much full of games that are ehh, but they sell buckets.

Plenty of good points and questions here to think about. It might seem uncomplicated atm but their are several systems of the game not being shown off yet. From the Map system/conquest map to the newer method of recruiting forces to the interaction methods. The H content of the game is sprinkled around not sparingly into several sectors of the game so that you can it from different actions/events of time or chance meetings. We have yet to really address difficulty factor for those looker for a easier method/faster paced method. As losing a battle although somewhat rewarding in its own notion is also a setback on your whole conquest.

What I'm trying to build isn't just something you masturbate to but something that is just as much of a game. Sure some of us if we want to do just that can just look a a h gallery or go on exhentai or some such online to find some of that. However in my case I enjoy knowing how something lead up to that moment or the story/reasoning behind it. If I'm looking at a h Gallery for any reason its normally because their is no English Version of the thing I want to look at. Its very easy to say this is a game + Hentai to a lot of things its not a very good way to word it. It would require breaking down some comparison titles and saying this is a hentai game this and this is a game + some hentai. In much the same vain Many platformers are a platformer adding penalty/loss animation/grappling mechanic.

What we have here is something we can add more and more content/quality onto it over time. Its not going to exactly where we want it to be 2 months in and where its going to be 4-5 months later will still have plenty more to go for it. Its going to get there over time not only from us working on it, but also the eventual feedback to create just the right curve that its both a game and rewarding/desirable enough to keep playing.

Is there any in-combat/mid combat H? or is it just clothing destruction and poses? The first thing i thought of was special attacks and combo chains that would do H attacks for damage, perhaps changing or increasing in potency depending on clothing damage. Could even have some mild animation ala maidensnoweve. Seems like something that would fit well with the match 3 system and combat, since its purely aesthetic and instead of always just little explosions and combat stance changes with a game over CG it would be even more like "lewd warfare"

From what i gathered as i read through i didnt see anything like it, and end animation on combat was pretty vague (sounds like an animation only after the battle ends to me).

Anyway, guessing its not what i thought but figured i would ask anyway, perhaps your next game might include something similar

Your potentially right. In terms of combat. Our current intention is that the defeated art isn't really the what we call lewd content that happens like after the battle or before depending on the situation and we'l be able to animate some of those at some point.
Its not like we can't animate the combat itself to potentially include lewd content their as well but it would be a lot more time consuming and is pretty hard to do with the amount of planned characters. If the demand for it is high and its something we can afford then we'd consider it. Although having the sex act during the battle itself would really fundamentally change things sure I like things like "Wrestle Angels" It'd have to happens before we start implementing world/story things otherwise it might impact the way we do it.

If it doesn't get to happen for whatever reason then it'd probably be something I'd be up for in a next game.

Btw end animation isn't after the battle ends as you have multiple units/characters fighting so you have to defeat as little as 1 to quite a lot before a battle is over. So during the fight their expression/colour might change and then their clothing gets damaged. Later we'l have verbal/voice acted reactions. But when they are beaten they'l collapse exclaiming something(This is the end Animation). Then the next unit/character will show up to replace the one that just lost.

If you were to include it, it could be just a re-usable set of images and animations that could be shared between some/most or even all characters (enemies and main characters), rather than try and make unique ones for everybody. Then you could just overlay the images and/or animate them in the appropriate areas depending on their current pose. MaiDenSnowEve is a great example of it, the actual H content is rather limited and they re-use a lot of images for almost every monster but it works great. You could even incorporate a simple orgasm bar, where if it fills they are stunned and lose a turn, so you could have decision making in, do i want to use moves that deal a lot of hp damage, or H moves that might do a little damage but fill up that bar? I think it can add a lot to the gameplay while making thematic sense and not detracting from the battle flow and speed, hopefully with ways to cut down on the effort it would take to implement.

Just me babbling though, was just something i was thinking of when i read the title of the game and started reading the battle descriptions. Then again, i love simple games like this where H happens mid combat and its something you have to actively manage/avoid/decide around. I like to feel more involved in the process than playing a game with just some game over and event CG's. Anyway, its your game, make it how you want! there is always a next game :) What you are going for is simple and fun, so it will be enjoyable no matter what

We've already gone and made unique sprites for each of our characters already and they have different poses and body shapes. The method you described may of left us with more visual content by slightly more similar looking characters. I think this works for some rpg's and visual novels and that doesn't mean we might never do something like that. Its just not going to happen this time around or the reusable set of images(base) method.

We just put a basic video up showing two finalized sprite's along with the updated progress of the match 3 screen itself. So the characters now move a little and flash red when taking damage. The ai is doing damage and you can see the skill targeting remove a row if you look carefully.
Unfortunately theirs no custom sound effects/music or voice acting right now. Whilst we have Some Va or who will do it sorted we're on the look out for a musician/sound effects designer.

Just uploaded the Arcanist/Mage finalized art line up.


I also updated patreon so that the the Lewd tier was the $25 tier instead. No idea what the $50 tier will be worry about it when someone actually wants to give to it.

We've made some changes to the way the game start up behaves in selecting a Faction but I'l explain the details about that another day after we make the official patreon post.

On note in regards to some feedback we'l probably have a grid with semi transparency behind the nodes itself it might be an option though. Had a few requests about it so we know about it.

Still aiming for the first version of an playable build in 2-3 weeks time. It won't have all the suggestions we've liked implemented, just cause of timing constraints but we'l get around to them when we can. These might be self imposed timing constraints but the gist is hopefully everyone will work their hardest to meet it.

I don't know how many people here look at SankakuComplex I emailed them about the project considering I had dealt with them before. Whilst I specifically said this wasn't a Lupiesoft project. They went and made a post saying this is a Lupiesoft project. I'm sure it'l be corrected in 10-12 hours or so ?

A mistake like this makes me want to bury my head in sand. Whilst I'm not to worried on my end. Fixing it up for Lupiesoft is a pain:D if people start noticing.

The art for this game really seems gorgeous so far. It kinda reminds me of the non-hentai game Banner Saga.

HuniePop gameplay was reasonably enjoyable for me so I'm definitely willing to give this a chance.

from my past experience, sankaku doesn't care about proper journalism. They will twist stories just to get more clicks. Here is some example of their past works:
- Puella Magi Madoka is canceled because of the quake (it's just delayed)
- ZUN ban touhou doujin (he only revise the guideline, especially for digital selling)
- Crypton ban a hatsune miku fan song, no more fans freedom! (it's banned because it insult sakai noriko, it's in their ToS)
- random hoax story ridiculing china, bangladesh, vietnam, etc

i have to say i love kalani and Juniper (more kalani), the ilustrations are really good, you should think about create a rpg maker game about Kalani (im a role player since diablo 1, im old i know XD), the combat system looks good, maybe little hard for those people who never played puzzle games (i spended a lot of time in puzzle games so its ok for me), i dont know if your game will be free or not, but like i said if you do a role game about Kalani i just have to say "shut up and take all my money" XD.

I don't want to think that it was intentional though mitigating the very clear me saying I founded this project myself seems a bit odd :D. Like one person gets the email then just separately sends a link to a page and says " oh the Lupiesoft guy emailed me it " In previous emails to them I keep specifying that its a western project but that information always get left out.

Yummy tiger plus rpgmaker plus Kalani 100% success. Im a fan of Yummy tiger work, now im yours too because Kalani, and if you mix all the thing i like: rpgmaker plus Kalani plus bodyswap going to be AWESOME!!! ohh dear lord thank you for bring us Ironstrom to this forum! :D

Edit: Bodyswap its a good game idea, the last h-game i played with this idea was X-Change and was long time ago.

I've played X-Change to really curious about a title called change! ~ano musume ni natte kunkun peropero~ also. But really love the bodyswap themes :D bit of an addict myself. So yea I'd like to do games with that kind of content.
