Minor update: new demo will be coming out this week!
Sorry for the recent silence, we've been working hard on the demo, obviously.

explains the contents (it's clickable if you want to enlarge).

We are also planning to make the new demo available on Kimochi and keep it up-to-date there (as well as under the main download link on our website - no change here).

Introducing:
  • All three difficulty levels! Good luck beating them........
  • Difficulty level select menu.
  • Quicker menu transitions - hopefully it's all more convenient now.
  • The score wouldn't reset on game over. Now it does!
  • Small wording issue in Skill Window and other minor bugs fixed :)
The next demo will (finally) contain a brand new playable stage. Finishing it up and testing may still take a while (because we'd like it to be released with all three difficulty levels ready); we're aiming at the end of February for Patrons and about a month later for public.

Played it; pretty cool! Gameplay is very fun and the art is pretty, both the character art and the in-game graphics. The RPG system is welcome too. I hope your game will get more attention: it definitively deserves it!

I have some questions if you don't mind:

1) This is a bullet-hell game, and those are definitively not beatable by everyone. It's usually something that you need to be basically a gaming god to play through. I'm definitively not one of them. Is it going to be playable by regular people on the lowest difficulty?

It's pretty easy right now on Normal, but that's just stage 1 so I'm not sure how indicative it is. I did manage to beat the demo on the hardest difficulty level on the first try with no lives lost (barely); will that probably be enough to beat the game on the easiest difficulty or is it going to get to real bullet-hell level by the end even on normal?

2) The Patreon mentions an unlockable gallery eventually. Is it going to be unlockable only by losing, or do you unlock all it's content for going through the game? I'm definitively not a fan of losing on purpose. If you manage to finish the game, will you get the entire gallery unlocked or do you need to purposely lose on every stage to every enemy and boss?

If you managed to beat the 1st stage on the hardest difficulty, you're definitely not a pushover at this :p While the game will get progressively harder (on all difficulty levels), our tests show that so far it is easily beatable on both Normal and Hard. Remember that you have quite a lot of HP - losing all 10 doesn't mean you're done with the game, it only means you can Continue again, with 1 HP less (9 after the first Continue, 8 after another and so on). This means that, while the game doesn't allow to Continue forever (like most H games do), it leaves you with a total of 55 HP + what you manage to gather from powerups! That's certainly much less punishing than any other classic bullet hell.

- Holy eff, your health does NOT refill in between stages? I thought it was a bug, then I retried with the "save" option and reload the game, and my health stayed at the same value so it's definitively intentional.

So is it 55 hit points total to finish the entire game? This certainly makes things a whole lot harder!

- Stage 2 is certainly harder than the first one. Had two gameovers on Hard (though I did come in to the stage with maybe 3 health left). I had no visibility problems, except for the last boss. When there was a ton of leaves floating around, knowing where the boss is was difficult for me; I basically just focused on avoiding shots and keep the fire button pressed. All good for the rest of stage 2; the bullets that track you slightly are mighty annoying but are fair and are a good addition.

- I think I hit level 3 by finishing the stage 2 boss. Since some upgrades cost more than one skill point and that the game is planned to have 7 stages, isn't the leveling a little bit slow? It feels like you'll get only a few points to spend by game's end, especially if you go for skills that cost multiple points.

Anyhow, game's fun, gameover CGs are great (the ones I saw anyhow). Looking forward to see the next version. I'm looking forward to when music gets added: I always feel that there's something missing when there's none.

Don't worry, it's entirely possible, especially on the lowest difficulty level!

Every boss has a "shadow" on the bottom frame of the GUI, which makes it easy to always see their position (and the shadow is exactly the size of the boss' hitbox) and allows to keep your focus close to your own character :)
Homing bullets (from the Aria boss, I assume?) are usually easier to avoid when you actually keep much closer to the boss. The bullets don't have that much time to start targeting you then.

The maximum character level is 7. So far our tests and calculations show that you should reach it around the end of Stage 6.
Each character level gives you the amount of skill points equal to that level, which gives a total of 28 skill points to spend. As long as you don't waste them on recovering your HP, this way you can max ALMOST all the skills. Not all of them though - the challenge is in the decisions you need to make on your build too :)

Anyhow, game's fun, gameover CGs are great (the ones I saw anyhow). Looking forward to see the next version. I'm looking forward to when music gets added: I always feel that there's something missing when there's none.

Unable to play this on my laptop for some reason. Clicking the application doesn't even open a process, tried in administrator mode as well. Someone had an issue similar to this earlier and you asked them to give you specs, I've sent you a pm with my own.

This public demo is final for now - "final" means that most probably no more content (stages, CGs etc.) will be introduced anymore; "for now" means that some updates will still take place - but only to the currently available content - as the game is perfected.

Remember that you can always to get more recent, monthly demos - we’re already up to Stage 4 now!

CHAOSRISE IS NEARING COMPLETION

There's still a lot we didn't manage to introduce yet, though.

Notice that the next month's Patron demo will probably be the last one. We are really pushing to release the game in December. This does not mean Patreon will be halted (yet); please also keep in mind that Patrons will be able to "purchase" the full game "using" the total money they pledged to us throughout this crazy year (which means that basically most of our current, long-loyal Patrons will receive the full final game - and all possible future updates - for free).

We will also release an updated public demo (1st and 2nd stage, but with all new features that the final game would have) soon.

Stay tuned! More updates to come soon.
I know I've been neglecting the forums and this thread has been dead for longer than anyone can imagine.
We're just... so busy ~___~

Steve's Quest by Machinae Supremacy (and other tracks), recognized them instantly (did not read your post)! Love their music and I know they already did the soundtracks for Jets'n'Guns. I guess they love that kind of games.
Admittedly I am personally awful at them tho.
