Re: Rance VI and 5d coming out in English in 4 days!

Oh...

Some questions:
- Are these games independant ? Or do you need to play all Rance to understand anything about the story?
- Any planned censorship in the translation?
If you really want to play them a lot of Alicesoft's older games were available free on their website. The Rance series is actually a spin off of the Miki series, so you'd want to start there, I guess, with "Little Princess" and "Little Vampire"... You can find Rance 1, 2, 3, 4, 4.1, 4.2 and Kichikuou there too.

Re: Rance VI and 5d coming out in English in 4 days!

These games are independent, but other games add a lot of depth and explains some relationships, but it's entirely possible to play them out of order as every game is a complete story with a new villain and the plot and its elements are properly explained. At most you'll miss some recurring jokes and references, but if you've played Sengoku Rance it's much like that.

The translation is actually the only decensored and HD version available, as the original games were both lower quality and had the usual mandatory Japanese censorship. As for actual content being censored, no, not at all.
OK, good to know. I'm happy to see that there will be no content censorship :)

Hey, I didn't know there was a translated and uncensored version of Beat Blades Haruka.
And it's fantastic.

Pre-Ordered Rance VI/5D a few weeks ago; can't wait to play 'em. I'm hoping strong sales for this and BBH will ensure more Alicesoft translations down the road.

Personally i think the contrary. Kichikuou Rance was a much better game, be it because of the many bad events, bad endings and the choices, it was the best in many points.

However sengoku rance had the pros that come with a more actual time, which is a better gameplay for battles, management and images.
Interesting... Is Kichikuou Rance translated? I haven't seen it floating around.

It's been out for like a year or two. Same guy translated that as did Rance 6 and Haruka for Managagamer.

The only untranslated Rance games are the ones after Quest and the 1 and 3 remakes. Everything else is translated and most of them are freeware.

Re: Rance VI and 5d coming out in English in 4 days!

Sengoku Rance remains one of the most fun video games I've ever played, even without any H content. I remember trying to play it when I had roomates around and explaining the mechanics of the game, and then having to cover my ass and say "Oh yeah and there's some porn stuff to it, too". But from time to time I still try and go back to play some different route, or see how efficiently i can make it through the game this time.

For the life of me, I haven't been able to find many other games like it. The PlayStation had one called Brigandine, but that's really all I know of.
Same here. Alicesoft has a thing for making hentai games that don't forget about the second part.

Wait, Quest has a translation? I thought it only had a machine translation? Where can I find the translation?

Well, there was a group translating all of the games but I'm quite sure they never finished Quest (just the demo) and they disbanded years ago. Unless someone else ended up doing it.

If were talking games similar to sengoku rance you cant forget Daibanchō: big bang age. It's a shame the rance series went back to being more standard RPG's after sengoku, even the supposed final game is going to be an RPG.

It is, however let me tell you to be prepared to cry A LOT in the first walkthrough, the first time i played it... i wasn't ready.

There are many characters doing evil plots in the darkness, some are timed events, others when you complete x action...

There are many INDIRECT CHOICES that will give a lot of tragedy so be careful.

The gameplay itself is a lot harder than sengoku rance and in some points more complex (in others less complex you will see).

And there is a lot of "dark" in this game. The saddest sengoku rance scene is what in this game would be at most a bit dark. I mean it, some characters are tortured and fucked to death, others suicide after falling to madness... be aware of it.

Keep in mind it's going to be the final Rance game, not the final Alicesoft game or even the last game set in that universe.

Fuck daibanchou big bang age.

THe loyalty maintenance of units is so bloody irritating. I really hate juggling them and keeping stupid bar up. I beat it at least once. Never again.

Its a shame though, I would've been playing it alot if it wasn't for that useless loyalty mechanic. Its just an massive amount of work for nothing.

So this game comes before Sengoku Rance in the Rance timeline right?

A big part of Big Bang Age is the fact that characters retain loyalty and permanent buffs based on whether or not you cleared them (including things like permanent loyalty increase so they don't need nearly as much maintenance), the game encourages multiple playthroughs as some characters are mutually exclusive with each other and there's a bunch of different routes.

So yea the first time going through units will be weak and hard to keep loyal, but every other route after that has those same units be stronger and more loyal (assuming you cleared them of course)

And it all culminates into chaos mode where you and every character you cleared will take up the entirety of the opposition at the same time.

I was fine with the reshuffle of every characters to collect BP every third or was it 4th day? But Loyalty maintenance went over the line for me. Turned the Game from fun into chore.

I did like it enough to beat it at least once cuz such a cool story+system and I liked getting me tanks to shoot with. The thought of replaying it just.. filled me with horror. Cuz I'm a type who will get as many characters as possible and fuck every hot girl I can come across. If the game permits me. And so, Daibanchou was just too much of a work thanks to loyalty.

Re: Rance VI and 5d coming out in English in 4 days!

Honestly, I couldn't have played Daibanchou without the cheat engine table which allowed to remove the loyalty chore. And then, it was much much much better.

Also, for people interested, if you didn't play the previous games, you can find very exaustive let's play here:

Honestly, these games are old, and very tedious to play, so I advise to read this instead of playing. You can play the remastered version of Rance 2 which has been translated, but the gameplay is still lacking.

Also, I recommand to read some of Rance's lore, because some parts are really amazing.

Your second link for Rance 02 is the remaster, but the remasters went in the order of 02 -> 01 -> 03

There's a small patch that adds some extra dialogue here and there which is called something like the kaikai patch, but most of it is trivial and not translated. If memory serves the only notable addition is
Shizuka offering Rance sex if he helps her stop her dad from getting killed, he refuses and fucks her anyway)

Was loyalty maintenance that bad for some people? It was literally, oh this person is low! Talk to them and give them 100 BP. Done with that character for months. By the time I was actually having multiple characters getting really low, the Hawain Vacation showed up and suddenly everyone's maxed again. I found the position for BP thing to be a much bigger chore so I ignored that entirely.
