ACT [azurezero] Magus- White mage platform game

Okay! I finally got the cg necessary for the proper demo so here it is

you play a white mage navigating a castle, armed with her magical weapon (i'm tempted to call it mjolinir as it resembles the thing vikings wore) it also kinda looks like an anchor... she has to explore the castle and find new skills that let her proceed... such as the ability to use the weapon as a grappling hook, and her holy hand grenades strong enough to know down walls

the basic plot is there's a castle that demons use to break into the human realm, and the main character is sent to seal up the castle by defeating the castles lord.




Controls
wasd to move
w/space- jump
q- enter doors/use save points

not sure if i'll keep it but you can restart a level at any time by pushing enter, though this doesnt rest your health

aim with mouse
hold left click to call the anchor weapon, release to throw it, holding it will also charge the attack

hold right click to throw a grenade, people who've played worms before will probably understand it...

I consider this game to be about 1/4 finished, I still have to make more enemies and design the upper floors/bosses.

the demo features the first boss and most of the first floor,
and 5 of the game over cgs.


game has grapple system though i'm still ironing out bugs (sometimes the escape variable doesnt reset so you can't escape)

it's chocolate actually, i suppose it's some kind of ritual...aka. dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians :)

Bomb doesn't break the walls. Cannot progress at all past the slimes...
Edit: So the grappling hook breaks the walls not the bombs...

I like the gameplay. My only criticism would be the sound quality when the boss beats you... I can hear somebody's face touching/breathing into an open microphone, which sort of kills the moment. But it's an enjoyable game, and the art is a very nice touch.

i'll consider changing the voices, but for now i'll be focusing on finishing yuko, which only has cg and the endings to go

I feel kinda sad when I see a new thread popping up about a platform game and then remember it's azurezero and I shouldn't pirate his stuff and i'm broke..

I'll probably hold a small competition for a free copy or something

Can't even play magus anyways cuz screen resolution of it is apparently not supported by my current monitor. I had to pull the power plug on my pc just to close the damn program because of my crappy monitor.

Now that I think of it, its funny that I have superior PC but terrible monitor.

i thought it was set to no change to the resolution...so it shouldnt really do anything...will update the demo file just in case

also fixed the permadeath bug... so now you can't refight the boss over the bottomless pit...

I can't break through the walls, neither the anchor nor the bomb worked.

you need to charge the anchor, ever play rayman?
Your game should explain the mechanics. People shouldn't need prior gaming history to understand how to play properly. Have some little pop ups with an animation of the character charging it and breaking open a block or something before the gameplay actually starts, like in an intro. You can communicate mechanics that way without the need for the dreaded "tutorial" level (Though that's also an option). Controls should also be shown in some way in game.

You could also put a text file with the controls in a folder with the game, or a couple pictures of the actions with the controls labeled beside in text and the proper keys for something more visual.

i'll be adding a simple intro level to the finished product :)
with visual cues guiding you through it
