Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"I don't think it works that way Rikke." Still helping her out and a few slips and bonks later they got back to the camp which was thankfully still occupied by Soda and the remains of her search party. It took some explaining but they managed to convince them that Alexa was indeed the Alex they knew and even more time to explain to them that Alex had always been Alexa and this was not a result of the island turning her into a girl. Not wanting to slow Rikke left that in the hands of Soda and Orlyn the two people who seemed to know about the girl hidden as a boy. This left her with daylight to spare to search more if she needed after all their was still six of the shore party missing. Just as she was about to head out Orlyn spoke up. "Rikke the Second Mate seemed intent on that Pyramid. Im not sure where it is with out my glasses but I would check there."

"What do you mean?" Rikke asked as the duo lugged the unconscious Lamia back to camp, Orlyn getting a chance to share what he knew of the genie girl... though soon enough they'd reach the camp. With the rest of Rikkes party, thankfully all present and accounted for!

Still as the duo explained away Alexas current situation, Rikke was free to continue "Alright, if I'm not back before dark. Head back to the ship and continue the search, when dawn breaks next." the rogue still had her original locale to explore... though just as she turned to leave Orlyn paused her and reinforced the girls wish to head to the pyramid! "Thanks. I'll check there now.

The heroine gave the man a nod and rushed onwards towards the strange pyramid-esque structure from before!

As Rikke made her way threw the jungle growth and ruins she reflected on Orlyn's words. 'Red Dogs Genie is very weak. And Magic that brings back the dead is very powerful. Not to mention Genie's are horrible tricksters. They might come back as undead or something worse.' Still she had little time to ponder as the huge stairs came into view threw a break in the jungle. Clearly someone liked their stair climbing exercise. Heading up she found ti to be a stepped construction with small landings at each stage of the pyramid. After about six of these she finally reached the top with its inclosed stone temple. Looking about Rikke finally took in the vast area around the jungle. From here she could barely see the ship and that was only due to the white sails against the blue sea. She could also see the extent of the ruins which took up about a quarter of the island. Hearing a scream behind her however turned her attention back to the temple and the dark doorway. The tiniest hint of the whispers teased at her ears and mind as she looked to the door.

Stairs... after stairs... after stairs! Had the previous residence used this for training... or was this just a huge monument for the grandiose of stairs! Rikke grumbled lightly, as she'd finally reach the top... only for a gust of wind to almost blow her back down the climb! "Wuah-ah-ah~!"

Thankfully the rogue quickly found her footing and fixed her hair, as she'd look around and even turn back to both see her climb... and the majestic view before her! "Wow..." as the girl looked around she'd even be able to see most of the structures in the jungle! The ruined city expanded down below her, as the exotic tree tops extended every way she looked... the view only accentuated by the sun nearing the subtly waving sea in the distance, as well as a few wilderness birds soaring through the sky.

Rikkes eyes remained wide as she smiled, the terrors that lurked on the island seemingly briefly shunned aside... only to make their presence known shortly after! A scream? The girl quickly turned around and looked to dark doorway nearby... Her eyes sharpened, Rikke rested a hand on her blades pommel as she sneaked onwards to investigate the source. Was this a trick from the ghosts... or one of the missing crew?

As she crossed the dark portal the air chilled considerably. Perhaps it was the effect of being so high up or other reasons either way it quickly chilled the girl. As she continued on the tunnel ahead only grew darker leaving her to curse the apparent loss of her night sight. Still even going slow Rikke began to make out a flickering light up ahead. A torch!... but all the way down here... in a ruin.. lit. Was it the crew or something more sinister. Approaching the torch she found it next to a pile of such things in a small stone box. Nearby the stairs ended and opened up into a chamber that she couldn't quite make out. If she had to quess she was about the second tier down in the temple. Leaving four more below potentially if the structure didn't go farther.

"Hello?" Rikke called out only for her voice to echoed and disappear down the dark hall... still as the girl continued, once again she noted that she could not fully adjust to the darkness as before! Cursing her luck she'd take her advance nice and slow, up to until running into signs of life?

A torch burned brightly absolutely standing out inside the otherwise abbandoned ruin. Someone HAD come this way, there was little doubt about it now. Ghosts did not need light.

Taking the torch and even one extra from the box, the rogue continued down along the path listening more than trying to catch something in her view. With the torch in-hand she'd continue onwards and enter the chamber "Hello~"

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Entering the chamber her voice echoed out and bounced along the walls. This seemed to stir a fair number of bats in the chamber. Looking up at the horde of flying rats Rikke shuddered. Thousands of bats clung to the ceiling of the level. Stepping further into the chamber Rikke felt her foot depress a stone causing a slight *phlunk* noise to echo from the wall. Looking to the location she saw the walls had tiny little holes full of nasty darts that where no doubt poisoned. Gulping at the large room she had choices. She was fast she might be able to cross the room with out getting hit, or she could try to find a safe path after all there had to be one as none of the crew's bodies covered the floor.

Cold goosebumps rushed over Rikkes body as she saw the fair number of darts and a... quite unfair number of bats! If she caused a ruckus here, the room--- the girl paused as an idea struck her mind. Though perhaps she'd leave it for plan B.

As first Rikke would inspect the path before her, it was clear the darts would be activated by pressure plates... and if someone was going through the musty old told, the path should be... de-dusted! The heroines eyes quickly extended the torch forward to illuminate the path, looking for slates that had seen much more use than their dusty neighbours!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke has 6 1/2 hours before the ship leaves stranding her.

Looking down Rikke did indeed spot a clear path threw the bat droppings. Wrinkling her nose she at least knew where the smell was coming from. Following the path proved easy if time consuming as the damn thing twisted and turned threw out the room. Taking up considerable time. Still as she cleared it her torch began to sputter and die quickly switching out she delved deeper into the ruin. Descending the next flight of stairs Rikke came across a maze like room on this floor. She couldn't spot the excit as the stone walls that blocked ehr vision extended to the ceiling.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

It wasn't dust... but it did show a path! Blessing her thick-heel boots, the rogue would walk down the none-too-pleasant, albeit safe path reaching her next challenge!

A maze? Rikke winced lightly... above all else, she did not have time to get lose in a maze! Still with the stuctures age, perhaps her previous plan of following a route already taken could work here?

Lowering her torch, the girl looked to the floor and searched for any hints of a path previously taken.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Indeed trails of bat dropping marked the floor allowing the rogue a rapid navigation till they began to slowly fade and vanish. Sighing as the last bit of her trail ended the rogue looked around. She was still in the maze but surely she had crossed the majority of it. Only standing a moment Rikke had to pick right or left. It was the only choice she had at the moment.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Seemed someone definedly smeared their shoes... Fearing the worst Rikke very slowly looked to her own heels, but sighed with relief and hers was definedly not that bad! Nothing a bit of rubbing in the grass wont fix!

Still, while not pretty, she had a path to follow! One that seemed to continued onwards up to until finally it seemed to end at a crossroad. Well... she made it most of the way here.

Smiling Rikke took the extinguished torch from before and placed it - it's tip facing left, the direction the girl herself went! Each path seemed identical thus is was more of a test of luck than anything else!

Rikke has 6 hours to return to the ship before it leaves.

Left! With a nod the rogue turned and headed in the direction coming across another set of torches a few turns in as well as stairs leading down. Tossing the sputtering one aside the rogue grabbed another to light her way. After a brief moment to collect her thoughts she descended deeper in her touch casting its feeble light. However as she made it to the next area her torch light caught a glimmer of gold. Its sparkle in the light hinting at a vast treasure. However as she entered the room she heard the voices hit her full on almost shirking in her head.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke took a step forward, the subtle glint of gold quickly making her thieving heart stir... only for the whispers to appear?! "A-tut-tut!!" she'd wince strongly as she'd backpedal, one hand on her head... before hopefully the whispers disappeared.

Thankfully it seemed she found some replacement torches, allowing her to focus and throw her current torch deeper down the pathway. Something up ahead seemed almost an epicenter of the curse!

[Back up and throw a spare lit torch to illuminate the area infront

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Tossing the torch ahead revealed piles and piles of gold coins and goblets, Gem encrusted rings and necklaces, chests spilling over with gold and one life like pirate statue made of solid Gold.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikkes eyes seemed to sparkle as much as the gold! Though perhaps that made it sting all the more, as quite clearly the treasure was cursed! The girl looked upon the riches with a complete heartache... they were right there, but she already knew what would happen if she came closer!

That is... she thought she'd know - possession. It was then her eyes caught view of the seeming centerpiece of the view. A pirate, one that wore clothes Rikke recognised! It was then fright rushed through her body as she took a far speedier step backwards! This was not possession... those who fel for this curse, turned to gold themselves!!!

Goosebumps rushing up her body, Rikke leaned out sheepishly and unfortunately turned to leave. As supreme of a statue as she'd make, she was not looking to become one!

Though was this the scream that she heard? The last cry of greed and horror innnermixed together? Damn... she was another man down. Not to mention her travel into the pyramid cost her precious time!

Yet... Rikke had to wonder, was there more to this pyramid than an elaborate pathway to a treasury? There had to be. Yet could she spare the time to wander the maze, worse yet - get lost in it?!

The girl took a deep breath and facing towards the path towards the exit called out as loud as she could! "HELLO! IS ANYONE HERE?!" and then she listened.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Going back would cost her more time with no sure bet that the other way was any better. Looking back at the treasure room Rikke knew she did not see all of it just a few feet in. There could be another exit or she could head back and try the other way.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Silence... 'Curses.' Rikke thought to herself and paused briefly in the dimly illuminated collidor. It was true she hardly saw any of the cursed room... perhaps there was further passage there. Afterall, the trail she followed was far too wide and highlighted for only one person to cross.

Frowning lightly the girl would look to pick up yet another of the torches illuminating the maze (if she could), before taking it to the room and throwing it deeper in!

She got possessed just by entering the mansion, however the girl was not certain that the curse only had certain 'cursed zones' she may not enter. Perhaps not looking at the gold or the like, could keep her safe.

The rogues eyes darted to the unfortunate sailor, who may have even potentially had been busy picking up or stuffing the gold into his pockets. Still... if the sailors fate did not give any hints, nor would the other torch reveal any further hints. The heroine would have no reason to risk becoming a most beautiful decoration.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Throwing another torch in let Rikke see the room was bigger than she had thought. It also illuminated the statue in greater detail. He was kneeling one hand scooping up treasure while the other was putting something in his pocket. Golden chains hung on his neck that oddly enough didn't seem apart of his goldification. The same seemed true to the diamond encrusted silver tiara adorning his head. Clearly it was the treasure itself that was cursed. The whispers must have worked on his inner desires.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As the reveal showed further victims, Rikkes eyes sharpened as she'd smile slyly... was this a test of greed? Most tomb raiders or looters would hardly look beyond such a find, cursing themselves to become part of the loot they so eagerly took.

Perhaps it was Rikkes own initial inclination towards piles of gold, that made the curses effect so noticeable! Still now knowing the life price for even touching the gold, she'd hardly care to even look at the forsaken treasures!

Pausing Rikke took a deep breath and calmed herself, before keeping her eyes of the gold taking a very cautious step inside. Would the cursed voices still envelop her... or could she attempt to see what lied beyond?
There was one way to find out! 'Bad idea... bad idea...' she'd brace herself and step inside once again, almost ready to leap right back out!
