Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The ground near the weapons had been trampled flat or torn. Of note was some drag marks that led to the road. The blood she found was enough to hint at a very minor injury. Still she did not the assailants numbered about six.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

So many footsteps... what had happened here? Rikkes heart jumped as the thought crossed her mind 'The Prisoners!' some of them had indeed held a grudge against Iri!.. but to think they'd follow and seek revenge instead of enjoy their freedom?!

Wasting little time the rogue rushed forward along the subtle trampled path!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke chased after the path moving quickly only loosing it a few times due to hard pack dirt or rocks. Eventually however she found a small clearing just off the road where the drag marks ended. Here she found far more trampled grass. as well as wagon ruts and marks of heavy animals. A rough campfire still smoldered in the chill air. Looking about Rikke found signs of habitation. Discarded shoe laces or broken bottles of cheap ale. A large encampment was here not to long ago. Looking further revealed a trail leading off into the woods deeper the damaged back of trees hinting at wagons carrying heavy and tall loads.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

What was going on here? Rikke paused as she'd soon enough reach a dirt road, yet one that seemed to have seen a fair amount of movement, recent movement!

The rogue looked both ways of the route, spotting clear and recent movement on one side? All of this trash and even a campfire... Rikke wouldn't attempt to guess whatever events had taken place just outside of Emilias home as clearly she'd just need to follow the trail and find out herself!

Still... with the road extending onwards, the heroine paused briefly and looked back the route she had just arrived. Was it really okay to leave Emilia? Then again, would she turn back now she may lose Iries trail entirely!

Wincing subtly as she'd look back the rogue slowly guided her gaze away and ran down the road in-pursuit of whatever caravan had just left!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke ran seemingly unstoppable no lack of air or running pains seeming to plague her. It wasn't long till she caught sign of the first wagon travailing at a walking pace. However what she saw of it was none to promising. Atop it was an iron cage holding a rather peeved bear that growled and sputtered at the nearby men walking next to the wagon. Their gear was ragged but their continence was fierce. A head other assorted growls and cries echoed out all animal some human. From her position behind the caravan it was hard to tell how many wagons or guards were present.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

'Bingo!' Rikke thought to herself as she'd slow her pursuit and stalk it from some distance the girls eyes trying to gather as much detail as she could. Who even were these people?

Still looking over whatever details the girl could she'd follow the caravan and consider her options... Perhaps just approaching them would not be the best idea, the girls gaze looking up to the sky hoping to see the sun slowly sinking down.

She'd make her approach at night! For now, the heroine would have to keep stealthy and prepare to approach, if all the signs were correct this was not quite a travelling circus and they had something to do with Iries disappearance!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Sticking to the woods Rikke's hope of a quick fall into night was not going to happen. The sun had just crossed its peak, and she would have a long wait ahead of her.

This did provide her a chance to hear some juicy bits and inspect the caravan more. From idle chats and comments she found out that the men where hired to capture wild and dangerous animals as well as exotic and strange ones as a bonus. She even heard that they took on a few peasants who wandered to far off the road or risked travailing alone. There was talk of how they would split their haul, with the animals that proved dangerous going to the murder pit and the exotic animals being sold to wealthy nobles. All the pretty slaves would be sold to brothels or specific interests and the remaining to the murder pit or mines. Of note was one specfic bit of conversation she happened to hear from a couple men taking a piss.

"Oh that tattooed woman put up a fight. I think she broke Germaines jaw.

"Yeah she earned her spot in the murder pit for sure. Its too bad really she is kinda pretty if not for the tattoo's and killer look in her eye.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Pouchers and slavers! Rikke winced subtly as she'd overhear the conversation... there went the hope that Irie joined a runaway circus! Still unfortunately the day was still young and even if the caravan moved slowly, there was a risk they'd arrive to a guarded city!

Rushing along the woods, the rogue would look to gain a vantage view and just see how many of these bastards were there... She just might have to use a far more brazen plan than she had in mind!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Challenge! Scout the Caravan.

Rikke is attempting to scout the Caravan. To do this without being spotted or losing ground she needs to make a perception check at a challenge of 11. If she succeeds at three attempts she scouts the entire train. She may abandon the challenge at any time for direct action. If Rikke fails the dice challenge she looses progress potentially loosing sight of the caravan till it stops next.

Current bonus +5 to perception due to noisy caravan.

# of successes 0/3

Roll 11 on the dot Rikke makes some progress!

Dashing threw the woods Rikke briefly looses sight of the wagon train. Its unfortunate but necessary. With the tight trail threw the dense woods she has to take to the wilds at speed in order to gain ground. Thankfully the poachers and slavers are a rowdy bunch at their noise helps the dashing rogue keep its location in her mind.

Emerging onto a small hill overlooking the caravan Rikke sighs in slight disappointment she didn't make as much ground as she wanted but she can make out at least a third of the wagons. Most have metal cages with various wild beasts and some more exotic ones. The more dangerous seems to be a blackthorn plant bound up tightly by cords its tendrils trying in vain to lash out at the members of the group. A few closed off wagons hinted at supplies or maybe even passengers but from this distance she could not see.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Some many various and exotic creatures... This was no doubt no random caravan at all! With the bunch keeping its movements Rikke would have to give chase and attempt to find a new spot to observe the caravan. Perhaps from a different angle?

Still most curious of all, was what would these people want with Irie? The movement was far too large for a random gang and its cargo far too precious for off-beat scavenging raids. Rikke had to learn more!

(Continue scouting!
+ Special: Rikke keeps an eye out on the outer patrols, looking for any one-offs or stranglers she could catch and take away for questioning!

Roll 12 Rikke makes some progress!

Not lingering for long Rikke began to move again keeping an eye out for anyone wandering off or scouting the flanks of the caravan. Once more taking to the heavy wooded cover with the noise of the wagons and men keeping her oriented she soon burst into a heavy vegetated area. Tall shrubs hider from sight but let her spy on the caravan in relative safety. This part of the wagon train seemed to be where the human and other prisoners were kept. Four heavily guarded open air cages help numerous prisoners of all races. However as sharp as her eyes where Rikke didn't spot Irie amongest them. About eight guards were present that she could see with a few covered wagons perhaps holding more. Nearby she saw one peel off and drop his trousers. She could assault him but she would have to give up the chase of the wagons.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Firsthand information would prove far more valueable than whatever the rogue could just spot! Moving silently the rogue head to one of the guards, who just managed to pick the worst time to relief himself!

The caravan followed the road and thankfully it moved a brisk walks pace, even if her attempts of interogation failed... Rikke should be able to catch up to the caravan eventually!

Though for now, the rogue licked her lips subtly and moved from shadow to shadow, before pouncing on the man, just as he finished his business! If successful her pounce would make the duo topple off to the side and some bushes more out of view from any wandering eyes!

Her blade drawn and at the guards throat Rikkes voice would carry a clear confidence about it "Hey there... Mind if we chat for a spell?" Rikke would grin with wicked content at her superior position. Ofcourse all this was the rogues plan, execution could always falter...

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The man probably just a lowly grunt stood little chance spotting Rikke as her ambush went off with out a hitch. There was of course a chance he could call out but with the blade at his neck the man wouldn't risk his life just for a chance his comrades might take out this crazy bitch that had him.

Y-Yeah talk sure... just don't kill me okay.... Ill tell ya all you want.... I promise.

He stammered quietly hoping that his disappearance would by him enough time for others to notice him missing.

Rikke abandons the chase. She will lose sight of the Caravan in 3 turns. Bonus the missing guard may be noticed. Enemies have a DC 7 to notice their missing man.

Round 0/3

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Good attitude!" Rikke smiled brightly to him and suddenly swong her blade down?! The swift slice cutting off the mans scabbared that she'd kick aside disarming the man "Who are you bunch?" it was the most straightforward albeit most important question "Don't skip the details and don't lie." she'd cross her hands with a dark grin, quite effectively hinting that lieing may not be the best of ideas... even if he didn't know what punishment the strange and rather gorgeous stranger had in mind!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

1 round passed
5 vs DC 7 no one knows yet.

Disarmed the man was at Rikke's complete mercy. Stammering the words he spoke. "We are mercenaries hired to protect a Lord Jerico's hunters. He is the one that wants all the exotic animals. He told us he didn't care how we got them just as long as we fulfilled his list. For awhile that was doing us good but then some of the other boys began to think that maybe we should expand this operation, and began to take other things. People, dangerous animals, and sell them to the highest bidder."

The wagon's creaked by slow and steady. No one seemed to notice that the guard was missing yet leaving Rikke to press for more info if she wanted.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke raised an eyebrow "Jericho? Who's that? Is this to whom this whole caravan is heading off to?" seemed the rogue had by sheer accident stumbled onto some sort of far-too-rich collectors hunters.

It did explain why the guards did not seem too capable themselves... "During your last stop what was the last prize you louded into the caravan?" Rikke would step closer "I'm looking for a female with dark tattoos across her body." was Isie among the captives? A victim of the 'expanded' ventures the bastards took.

Still it sounded more and more like a caravan the rogue would have to disrupt!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Round 2 has passed enemy spot dc increased by 1
7 vs 8 fail

"I don't know some rich lord. The first stop is gonna be the murder pit. There the hunters will take their prizes and we get left with the extra's." His eyes darted to where the wagon's rolled by, but as Rikke gave Irie's description he snapped back to her. "That bitch? why are you worried about cultist trash?" If Rikke seemed angry at this he would back down meekly and stutter some more. "Y-yeah we took her it was easy she seemed hurt and only managed to knock two of us out before we subdued her. Vintus seemed to think she would make good fodder in the Murder pit.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikkes eyes would indeed sharpen, quickly hinting the man had used the wrong words there! Still with just a shift of her gaze the girl quickly got all the information she needed "Murder pit..." the girl sighed visibly "Why do I have the feeling thats not a particulary nice place." she'd utter more to herself than him.

"Alright, so~ Whats your name?" Rikke gave the man a most unusual smile, spurring a confused answer or retort "Well~ Joffrey, I hope you won't mind but~ We'll be doing a little bit of rope-play." the girl grinned wickedly as she'd snap a rope?

If uninterrupted Rikke would tie the man up and gag him, pushing his blade closer with her leg to the tied-up man on the ground "There you go. That should let you free yourself eventually." she'd wink to 'Joffrey' slyly and rush after the caravan!---

Rikke stopped mid-way through turning around and quickly approached the man, before croaching down and removing his gag "Hey! Does the Caravan have any other additional stops planned, before the pit?" receiving her answer, the rogue would smile to the man and quickly return the gag moments later rushing after the caravan!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Leaving the squirming man in the woods Rikke managed to catch back up to the wagon train. Of course she was in for a long walk as Joffery told her only one stop would be made before the group splits and they would travel threw the day and well into the night.

As the evening drew in the guards switched out with fresh ones in the wagons stopping only briefly for a meal before moving on a again. a few screams from up ahead hinted at other delights some of the men took but from her position in the back there was little Rikke could do. Soon enough though the wagons were back on the move with lanterns lighting the every darkening woods. Even as night came in full the wagons didn't cease traveling well into the night till at last the forest began to thin and a wide sea of grass opened up before them. Distance camp fires could be seen with a few of the guards muttering something about nomadic savages.

Eventually though just as Rikke's legs started to burn from the walking the wagons began to filter in to a small barricade down a hill. Stopping in some low shrubs to watch Rikke saw what could only be described as the Murder Pit. A large earthen hole covered in spikes surrounded by barricades and a large crowd. Who's roars echoed out from the camp. Various skulls of animal and humnoid hung like trophies from chains or spikes.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke would not shadow the caravan for long, as indeed the long travel would grow tiresome over time... she had to think of some way to keep up, without skulking at the back of them!

Even if the dark of night would keep her hidden in the plain fields, the dark worked both ways - hiding the girl... as well as some of the caravan as well. The girl knew the bastards would have a very brief stop for rest... and leisure... it would be then Rikke would have to make her move!

Finally moving in to the last cabin of the caravan, Rikke would look to catch the moment the guards left for their meals to rush forward and climb up to the top of the caravan! If its roof allowed it, she'd remain hidden there and prepare for action!
