Re: Club Grounds

Siphon shrugs.

"Sword based, unarmed and these."

He heads into a back room then brings out what appears to be some kind of staff like weapon, made of wood. It was about three inches taller than he was, with two ends that were about six to eight inches wide, while the grip of it was narrow, yet long enough to place two hands on it.

"Though usually I use these made from metal, not wood."

Re: Club Grounds

She waited until he was sitting before replying.

"Partially Sho's idea on another way to get accustomed to being here since as you know I'm not really used to a lot of people in one place. Actually her idea was for me to join any club, but after I found out Autumn and you were both going to be in this one I figured let me at least go to one where there are a couple familiar faces. Signed up for literary/book club too, did you?"

Sure Aya, and was only a small part regarding him huh? Yikes, better not think like that, might actually say it out loud and embarrass myself.
He seems to chuckle as she mentions going along with an idea of Sho's, that obviously holding some amusement for him. "Always good ta have friends around ya. Tends ta make things go smoothah. Surprised Autumn isn't here yet. Maybe she got delayed like the rest of our mates." As she mentions the literary club, he nods. "Yeah, but Ah'm not fastidious about goin' ta those. Ah can read books just fine on mah own time, but still, it's nice ta talk to folks about somethin' new when ya find it or when ya need somethin' diff'rent."

And lucky for her, his mental capabilities didn't delve into the realm of mind-reading, so her secret was safe for the time being.

Re: Club Grounds

As Trixie selected something and moved to the other room, Grace put her project aside for a moment and got up to have a look as well. "Hmm, a school uniform. Kind of ironic. Hah. Oh man, would this actually even fit anyone?" Grace says amusedly picking up the Ivy outfit again and tilting her head as she tried to figure out which way round the curious set of straps were meant to go. "It's well made and all, but I don't think I'll be..."

"Wow. Pretty sweet. That was just in the club collection?" Grace says interrupting herself to look up as Trixie returns, "Your like a futuristic commando chick or something."

--------------------

"Self trained spear huh. Self trained styles are always the most interesting in my opinion. And the most fun. Says more about the wielder than old techniques learnt in a school." Ellisia replies to Suzy, "Recently I've been learning some of the unarmed martial arts from other members here, and trying a bit of everything else on the side. But my main focus is by far the sword. I'm best with the double edged varieties, but can use the eastern style blades as well. There in the corner..." She says motioning to her greatsword, "That's mine. Some of the guys here think it's an odd style to specialise in, but what do they know. It's a shame you can't really spar properly with two handers like that."

"Hmm. I haven't seen that one in motion before..." She adds as Siphon returns.

"I must say I am not familiar with this kind of weapon, what do you call it, and where are its origins?" Suzy says, motioning towards Siphons weapon, before continuing, "I have never been too into swords, though I kind of like smaller Eastern swords, though they would never be anything other than a sidearm to me. Double-edged, especially two-handed swords really don't appeal to me, as those kind of weapons rely on their weight do they not? A job usually done far better by an axe." she smirks a little "I have done little unarmed combat, though I have achieved a green belt in Ju-Jitsu."

Re: Club Grounds

Ellisia smiles as she hears some very familiar conversation, "To each their own, of course. While it's true that much of a two handed swords strength is in it's weight, like any weapon there's a lot more to it if your going to use it well. Just as there's more to using a spear than just poking at a distance because it's long. Right? I have no belts or such, but I can hold my own fairly well against the members that frequent the club here."

Ellisia was unfortunately at a disadvantage here, since she could hardly bring up her long weeks spent training with the other knights in the academy, or the differing benefits of her blade when combating inhuman creatures from other worlds. While she'd seen most varieties of weapons used in life and death situations, right now she had to maintain the image of a perhaps slightly odd but otherwise normal school girl.

"I know, pretty sweet. Wonder where it came from? Feels good on too. Hey, is there a loaning program with these costumes?" she asked, a slightly-mistevious look to her eyes. specially if Art looked right.

"There's a signing-out book in the store somewhere," Art replies, looking up and just catching Trixie's look and replying with a smile to her. "But, I'm not too fussy. So long as it comes back eventually I'm cool with whatever."

Re: Club Grounds

Aya only nodded in reply, seemingly lost in thought for the moment. When she finally spoke, it was to ask him something.

"So, you read a bit huh? Anything good that they have here you'd recommend for me?"

Siphon allowed himself just a small smile. It wasn't often he broke out this weapon, and the few times he did he never got the chance to really practice well with it.

"It's actually a variant of an ancient Egyptian staff based weapon, only made from more modernized, rugged materials. Since metal type weaponry like this would cause significant damage even in a friendly spar and would destroy a sparring dummy, this one has been made from hard oak. Useful for friendly sparring, not so much for actual combat. I have two of these actually, both in perfect condition that are made of a metallic compound kept in safe storage and display, a reminder of my past and the travels I've made. Perhaps later on if you would like I can bring one of them out and show it to you out by the falls, where there is plenty of room? Every now and then I practice with it out that way, keeps the body in good shape."

He took a long moment to regard Elissia's sword, which seemed to be a fairly rugged, heavy looking one. It reminded him a bit of his former instructors own weapon, though that would have easily outweighed this one by far. It also took him back to darker parts of his memories, which he quickly shut out.

"Elissia, would you mind if I took a closer look at your sword? I would very much like to test it's weight and compare it to my own blades, if that is alright?"

((Considered that carefully before posting that there. Might be an interesting moment there with how that sword works.))

Re: Club Grounds

Smiling a bit, she steps back to the other room and changes back, pretty soon returning back to the room with her normal clothing and the strange suit gathered in her arms, setting it on the table. "Hmm, let's see what else is here before I try any sign outs..."

Re: Club Grounds

Ellisia thinks for a moment but soon replies, "Certainly." She says strolling to the corner to collect it from where it rested. Returning she holds it out flat to lay it in Siphons hands. "Careful. It is a fully live blade."

Siphon knowing Ellisia's normal line of work would probably be able to tell that "live" by her standards was probably a lot more than the average melon slicing weapon enthusiast's idea of what a sharp edge is. The sword itself, once removed from the case, is a masterfully crafted weapon. It's general design looks built for efficiency, and a simple, bold type of elegance. A soft golden coloured hilt, with simple but fine designs running along the sturdy guard. The long grip bound in blue, with the pommel again bold, but not overstated by gems or any outstanding frivolity. The blade was a shining light metal, with a small hint of blue in the light that reflected from it. A single broad blood groove ran along the centre of the blade. Siphon would estimate it at somewhere around 18 pounds/8 kilos. Considerably more than any historical blade of a similar size. It's full length ran at a little over five feet, the blade making four foot of that length. Seeming in contrast to it's history of service, the blade was flawless, with not a single pit or dent to show for it's many battles.

Here's that little pic I drew a while back. Was never intended to be in accurate scale of course. Afraid I've never drawn it without the case.

Re: Club Grounds

Siphon did admire the blade for several long moments, letting the weight of it shift in his hands. He could tell the blade was as sharp as his own were, a true warriors weapon. He wasn't quite certain of what it was made of, but it seemed strangely familiar. Perhaps a material similar to one he knew?

He decided that didn't matter right now, and slowly, carefully began to swirl the sword about near him, making sure he didn't hit anything with it. It would be nearly a full two minutes before he realized he was doing this with only one hand, and that most people would find that... well ... Impossible. He absentmindedly changed to doing that with two hands for a moment before stopping, but likely not before at least Elissia, who'd probably been watching had noticed. He could only hope Suzy hadn't too, but it was unlikely.

Re: Club Grounds

Suzy herself was admiring the blade of the sword, it's sheen drawing her gaze far more powerfully than the fact that Siphon seemed to be using the large weapon with a single hand. She was not, however, oblivious to this, and gawped for a few seconds before regaining herself, shortly before he switched to using two hands. When he stopped, Suzy eyed the sword and said to Ellisia "That's a wonderful sword you have there, where did you get it?"

Re: Club Grounds

Ellisia raised an eyebrow as Siphon's try out began to look a bit unsubtle. Passing him a light "take it easy" expression somewhere around the point he realised himself.

"It was a present from my foster father before he passed away a few years back. He ran a small smithing business that mostly focused on bespoke replica weaponry, special props and art pieces, but when he could he loved to work on personal projects. Used them too. I learnt a lot of what I know from him."

Ellisia shared her decided cover story with a casual tone and a hint of nostalgia. A degree of acting was something to be expected when visiting over cultures.

"Saying that I imagine you can see where my pet obsession stems from."

Re: Club Grounds

"Indeed," was the only reply from Siphon as he carefully extended the sword out for Elissia to take back.

If Siphon had noticed Suzy's moment of shock, he hid it extremely well.

"It's a very nice blade Elissia. We ought to compare notes on respective blades later on."

"Well, Ah'm workin' through mah own stash at the moment. Readin' Tolkein again. Ah like ta see how far Ah can get through in a school year." He flashes her a grin. "Usually depends on how distracted Ah get. Why don't ya tell me what ya like ta read and Ah'll see about some recommendations.

Re: Club Grounds

"Interesting story you have there. The story of my spear is far simpler, I was given it when I was 13 by an old friend, who works with a troop of guys which re-enact battles, you know the kind I mean? I just sharpened the blade and dyed the plume a different colour." Suzy says to Ellisia. "What about you, Siphon? Any interesting story behind your weapon? I would also like to know your two's opinions on firearms if you have one to share?"

Re: Club Grounds

Aya shrugged.

"I don't know what I like that's the thing. Was hoping you might have some ideas as to where to start at least."

Siphon nodded slightly.

"Well, as far as the staff goes, the original I have was something of a gift on one of my travels into Africa a few years ago. One of those exchange student kind of things, and ultimately what led to me coming here. As for the swords I mentioned earlier to you folks about, I actually took the time last year and forged them myself. It was more of a hobby than anything, but after I had finished I realized that I liked making complex things with my hands. And so I made this wooden staff as well for more practical use."

He paused at the mention of firearms, before shrugging.

"Depends really. You talking any specific kind of fire arm, or just a generalized statement?"

Re: Club Grounds

"Then maybe Ah'll get ya started with the classics. See who strikes yer fancy among them and we'll go from there." He chats with her a little more, trying to see what sort of stories she likes to read about, using some of their lessons as a basis to go on. Of course, that ceases when the rest of the club wanders in, even if some of them are part of the other organization as well. Courtesy and all.

((And I'm stopping there, since I don't have the energy right now to do stuff for a tea club. If anyone wants to assist...))

"Firearms? Hmm. Well, generally loses the personal experience that interests me concerning melee combat. But I don't deny there is still a genuine skill involved, and while different the tactics and teamwork element is just as strong. Certainly can't argue their effectiveness either." Ellisia replies, glancing over at the imitation pistol in the bookshelf again as she speaks.

Re: Club Grounds

"Hmm. I like my spearcraft, but I love target shooting just as much. I differ a lot on firearms, as per the type. Shotguns for instance, hate the things, while I love bolt-action rifles to pieces. I'm trained in one myself. I feel there's nothing like having a rifle in your hands, looking down a scope at your target..." Suzy trails off, looking off into space, eyes glazed over.
