Dark Gate OOC Thread

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

I'm not sure about a +52 to hit... I understand it's a fairly weak enemy, but still, that would auto-hit most PC's.

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

Eh, given the way it does damage I don't think it's all that impressive (although in swarms it could be pretty deadly given max rolls). If you do lessen the bonus, I wouldn't lower it below a final total of +40 because defensive fighting or a single AoE will usually counter them for all but the 30~ main stat PCs.

Also, you should totally consider giving them sudden strike. Huehuehue.

And Akorvick.

Tass likes them 'k's and 'v's.

Goddommit, will need to redo Ragnarok again. Also, really wish I made Angie a spirit user now, will cost a bit of exp to get Engineer for her. And will need to save up for Demonsummoner for Lani.

Yeah, that's the gist of why I felt it should be okay to allow them a high hit chance. Their total potential damage is pretty small unless significantly massed. Going by pure average damage of 3.5 it would take 7 or 8 hits to deplete a 50 statpoint total character to 0 resistance. Any character with res bonuses or extra stats would take more. The average character will get hit for low damage, whilst a good warrior or buffed character has a chance of dodging. Also note the very small range. They're within range of all AoE attacks and all warrior charges easy.

Plus a bit of minor dignity damage in an otherwise clean win, is always fun right?

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

Hahaha never underestimate the power of slime attacks vs. dignity

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

For extra dignity damage, also have them deal that much damage unmitigated against the character's armor's tearing points or something.

Also, have you looked into leap glomp? Might fit the grounded facehugger motif.

I did also consider leap glomp actually. I think I felt at the time that insta submission hold sounded a little scary, but considering they can do that via stealth attack anyway, and the leap does impose a -10 penalty, that does seem a reasonable addition.

The clothes melting thing could be fun. Seems like very multi purpose goo, but I'll leave that to Tass I suppose.

How 2 build team unity in group?

My Full Metal Fairy is insulting them as hard as she can, and it's not working.

Giving them situations that don't drive them apart is a good start. Teamwork is built on opportunity, and if the characters don't have an opportunity to interact in a supportive manner the characters will just keep doing their own thing.

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

Using an NPC to force cooperation isn't the way to make the character's work together and isn't a good motivator for OOC interaction. Give them a situation in which the character's skillsets can work together in interesting ways. See: the desert thread in which Solidyn carried Zahra on her armor as she walked across the ceiling, letting the PC with the good perception spot for everyone until two of the other PCs walked into a darkened alcove, in which one of them could see and the other couldn't. That was a situation in which teamwork did happen (spidertank with mounted catgirl archer machine gun) and then didn't happen (Aurelia not going in to check first for Huldah, who was basically blind while inside the dark tunnel.)

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

The issue is mostly character personality, rather than giving them the chance to do interesting things. One character was attracted to the other, made a move, was denied. Unfriendliness followed. That is the issue.

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

Either neuter the suitor or drug/hypnotise the object of their affection. Should fix the in game problems. Then you just have to deal with fighting off the angry players themselves.

Re: Dark Gate OOC Thread

Character's not getting along at the very beginning of the adventure is a given, and shouldn't inspire attempts at manipulation. I read the section to which you're referring in particular, and thought it was an excellent opportunity for character growth on both parts through which the individual PCs could have added a bit of depth.... And then you introduced yon naga noblewoman, who besides being a fairly violent breach of the lore given their location and recent events, only made matters worse. PCs that chafe at each other a little don't ruin a thread, and I fully expected that Garg's character would have recovered from yon rejection and that Aust's would have thought further on the matter and possibly changed her mind. Either may correct me on this if they so desire.

The better manner of smoothing that over was to let them interact without interference. The character's functionally don't actually know one another just yet. Giving them time to develop relationships and creating an environment that encourages cooperation is how one should handle situations like that. You start using heavier NPC interactions or other methods when people start complaining about the other PC's actions out of character, at which point your efforts to produce the necessary environment to keep up a group thread have clearly failed.
