Re: Do you even read ?

the translated text was the main reason i enjoyed sword of morals asagi. or at least i had less interest in the untranslated scenes.

the game made me realise it's not always a good idea to write hentai scenes like they were erotica with pictures and instead started trying to carry the scenes with dialogue instead. (dirty talk is only sexy when youre already horny though)

Re: Do you even read ?

A bit late to the call, but honestly, I do and I don't.

If the scene and/or characters are interesting, the dialogue of a sex scene can provide some very arousing context - if the dialog isn't redundant or repetitive. Unfortunately, many scenes end up having rather unoriginal or outright generic dialogue consisting of the standard walls of moaning and unfittingly descriptive outcries.
I generally read until the first major scene transistion, and if it doesn't catch me by then, I skip the rest.

I do understand you mate, some scenes in some games have a lot of moanings or very stupid context, in that case I skip them sometimes, but noramlly I read everything.

The only game I skipped most part of the H-scenes (starting in the middle of the scene) was peniban quest cuz scenes in there were just HUGE and in some point they started to get boring.

It's not too late, every opinion is welcome, I just wanted to thank everyone in advance :D

Re: Do you even read ?

I don't ever really read the sex scenes, I've done enough of that to not need more flavors of "dick enters vagina, girl squeals, repeat" The context of the scene is more interesting than the fine detail. And good god some of the sex scenes have the most ridiculous writing/dialogue you can imagine, so that doesn't help much either.

Re: Do you even read ?

It's incredibly important to me. I don't play stuff that doesn't have H translated. Especially if it's rape themed. Unlike a VN I usually play RPGs for the H.

Sex dialogue usually gives active updates on the Heroine's mindset. If she's strong willed, actively resisting, slowly giving in, lying to herself, etc. Any difference in mental state gives the scene a completely different meaning (and therefore appeal). If the character is resisting in one scene, but then enjoying it in the next, then that signals change, or even just change in the context of who she's having sex with.

While moaning works as flavour here and there (it can mean something too if it's used sparingly), if dialogue is all moaning then I think it's kinda just bad sex dialogue.

Regardless, yes, it's very important to some people. Some people don't care and will look up a game's CGs and be done with it.

Re: Do you even read ?

Hey guys,

I'm currently sitting on a translation for a game and, as always, I do the sex scenes last because they can be super annoying and are quite long...

While struggling to finish all the scenes I started wondering if people actually read the sex dialogues, I mean, if I do a full translation this is obviously a part of it but I'm just really curious if people play translated versions solely for the purpose of understanding what they have to do in order to advance or if they actually read everything even if it's not necessary to advance...

So ? What about you ? =D
Not knowing what's happening is frustrating for me af.
Same goes for bad machine translations that you can see done by Japanese developers. So yeah, translation subforum on ulmf dictates a lot what games I get.
If I am skipping any text it's something I already read, badly translated or badly written.
Other than that, I enjoy reading, be it books, VNs or other games.

Re: Do you even read ?

My sympathies, translating Hscenes is a pain. Occasionally I'm like "I should translate this game" but then I'm like "But I'd have to translate the hscenes..." :(

I do read them, though only when I care for the heroine and unless the dialogue gets too cringy.

Re: Do you even read ?

If the game is actually good, the scenes are most likely worth reading.

Aside from the porn itself there can be bits of character development or story woven into h-sceenes. And having the full context for the sceene tends to make it so much better as porn.

That said though, beggars can't be choosers so if you're translating a game at all and get it to a point where it's easily playable for a non-native speaker, I'm quite happy with the effort. Though a lot of 'partials' don't go truely far enough to fully accomplish this. Like an RPG partial might translate the menues, but unless they translate most of the dialogue I still won't know where to go, what to do, or what my quests are.

Re: Do you even read ?

it depends on the game,
some games i read everything, some i skip parts that i dont care about, some i skip quite a lot, specially the sex part when the story is more important then some silly bedroom talk.

Re: Do you even read ?

I usually read everything, but I do find it really tedious if the scenes end up going on way too long. If the scenes are too long it's just a chore to have to read through the whole thing.

Re: Do you even read ?

As with many people here, it depends on the dialogue. If it's wooden writing, or overly verbose, then it's generally not worth reading. I'm kind of on the fence as to whether or not H-scenes in VPM are worth reading - most of them are overly verbose, but I like to think my translation isn't too wooden (although it's not at it's best when I'm translating H-scenes)...

On the translating side... Well, there's a reason why I'm working on a machine assisted translation tool which should be able to automatically translate much of the stuff which is a pain to translate by hand - i.e. the moans, other repeated nonsense words, etc. Although don't expect Robotrans to be around in any concrete form until the years end, I suspect.

Re: Do you even read ?

In my opinion, good dialogue provides good foreplay (so to speak). Sometimes I can not get through the whole scene because of the pre-warm up (if you know what I mean).

Basically, this.

Re: Do you even read ?

Nope, can't stand most RPGMaker games' excuse for story, and typical sex scene text is almost as bad. Alot of people mention that it depends on the content, unfortunately maybe 1 out of 10 games actually qualifies for that exception.

i don't read Sex scene dialog unless its in the realm of rance/monstergirl quest.

The dialog is important, yes but it all depends on the scene.

Re: Do you even read ?

Obviously. There'd be zero point to an h-game if not for the pornography. Why is this even a question? What are people playing h-games for if not the sex scenes?

No seriously, this is really bizarre.

Re: Do you even read ?

I usually don't, or rather I only half-read. I tend to look for works that are more in the BF or RoR genre, preferably reverse rape.

Problem is, the kinks of female dominance and humiliating/insulting ("blame" I think they call it in Japanese) dirty talk seem to be inseparable. I'm not a terribly big fan. To me an elegant, naughty, honey-lipped succubus with a more sophisticated understanding of building temptation and energy in a love scene is far more appealing than one who sounds like an emotionally incompetent screeching hag raven who incessantly blares stupid shit the instant she opens her mouth. (I also find this a problem with porn stars as well.)

Re: Do you even read ?

for me, some sex scenes are boring, uninteresting or plane annoying.
its not that because its a adult game i need to like everything, im quite particular, theres some stuff i like some i don't. if theres a monster sex, shota, uninteresting character (and more) i skip as fast possible. why do i need to read something i really dont care about? but that doesn't mean the game itself need to be bad, the story can be good or theres one character i like, its like the game dating my daughter that is quite popular right now, i skip all scenes that are not about the daughter, because im interested in the progress/relationship between father daughter, without her i wouldn't play it, as the other characters are uninteresting for me.
