I'm not sure what that would achieve. It's not going to stop people who want to spam that the link is down because THEY WANT IT NOW or didn't read the previous post. Darkfire and I both already check links to see whether they're down or not when someone makes a post about it and usually chime in when it's a false claim. We also remove dead links when the claim turns out to be factual, if enough time has been given so that it is apparent the user in question isn't going to update the link themselves. In this particular instance it's barely been a week since the post was made and the user in question hasn't logged in since before anyone reported the link being down.
Also probably worth noting is that the purpose of threads is not to provide links to content. That behavior is allowed in threads because it increases the number of people that can participate in the conversation.
