I agree with Anon42...it's bad design. That fact that it is logically incoherent makes it bad design. The fact that I can enjoy a game doesn't make it good. I enjoyed a lot of Gundam games, even though I acknowledge the gameplay sucks most of the time, because it's a game with Gundams, and being a big Gundam fan, I'm willing to forgive a lot from such games. But that doesn't make the game's design good. My guess is, and I'm pretty sure about this, most of us are willing to forgive a LOT in hentai games.

Now, the problem in my opinion is not that you have to get caught or "lose" to watch the scenes, but what does getting caught or losing means.

If it means you just have to restart from the last checkpoint from 1-2 mins ago, well, whatever. Example: Shinobi Girl, Witch Girl, etc. The levels are short and you can even get caught a lot of times and still finish the level, recovering health masturbating and it also rewards you with a finishing move charge.

But if you have to go through hell and back again just to get to the same point...forget it. Example: Quest of Ki. 'Nuff said.

its not a bad design. if the game gives you all the cg for beating the game its a great design, rape for losing all cg animations for winning. if people enjoy it and there's a following for it, its not a bad design. (like vita beating the game a bunch of times gives you points to buy cg)

Can't blame the impatient bugger. When i saw 4 pages worth of added post i assumed it was released too until i scrolled through to find ppl discussing philosophy and opinions. =_=

Damn, all that money.. I knew I was in the wrong line of work. Well I'm not in any work at the moment, but even when I was working... yeah anyway. Can't wait for this to finally be done. :)

but consider how many months you have to divide the profit, while not having the money in those months, also having to pay for the licenses of any nonfree software he uses + artist + programmers (if he hires them)

profitable? maybe so, but for these kind of games (indie AND hentai) the work and stress is also huge.

Plus you have to do it for a long time and be good at it and make something people actually want to pay for. Plus it helps if you're japanese and selling it to a japanese market where they're more likely to purchase these porn games rather than just steal it.

I know I'm late in the discussion but here's what I've seen so far.

People against GOR think it's counter-intuitive to the idea of making a porn game. People for GOR think that the GOR aspect actually adds another layer of gameplay to it.

To be honest, I'm for GOR. If you play the game fighting your inner demons( should I let this monster have it's way with me and lose my progress or keep going), that's another layer of thought added. Also, GOR is good because you dont feel like shit for losing. You lose, so what, here's a cool adult scene. You win... guess what, you got the satisfaction of progression and being able to experience more of the game. It's a win-win. I also, don't get the argument, about sex having to be in all aspects of the game. Seems like you just want sex with a game on it... rather than a game with sex on it. I personally would want a game with sex on it. (I mean how would the latter even work... you play the game with your pants down and whenever sex happens you fap?) Can't it just be something you enjoy watching and fap to when you feel like it? If it can, then why does it need to permeate everything.

I'm starting to see this as just a matter of preference honestly. When I played eroico I'd play for the game and was just happy to see that the sex was a part of it... So the H-Game community is now even more fragmented.

To add my two cents to the matter, I see it as such: GOR is a nice element to have, but should never be the only element. I do appreciate the aspect of it, but it shouldn't be enough to divert me from the game to make the game more so about losing, getting further, losing, repeat forever. It's definitely a nice thing to have, but shouldn't be the sole source of animation or CG or whatever is in the game. The GOR really takes away the disappointment of losing, but shouldn't be what you aim for, its annoying in my opinion when its the name of the game. "Get a game over on every single enemy, you don't get rewarded for actually doing good."

Also I feel like you might have your words mixed up some. Using latter when I think you meant former. Also the win-win part doesn't necessarily make sense. You don't progress into the game after a game over, you lose progress, so there's no satisfaction in the progression you just made. +1 h-scene, -time for progress. Have to fight that boss again or whatever, its a win-lose, that's how all GOR is.
