What terrifies me is that there's a whole fresh set of young gamers that are growing up used to the current market conditions; early access, online-only, and DLC will be, to them, the way things have always been.
I'm forced to remember my own younger thoughts of "change is good, try to keep up you old farts," in an attempt to find hope in the situation. Change seems bad now because I'm comfortable with the way things were; it also brings bumps and sometimes straight up dives into pools of lava. The trick is to guide the process towards a better end result, which folks like TB are trying to accomplish.
Basically, the squeaky wheel gets the oil, but there's a whole lot of wheels out there these days.
