The Holy Roman Empire? Not that Roman, actually.
It was officially known as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (German: Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation, Latin: Sacrum Romanum Imperium Nationis Germanicæ) from the 16th century onwards.

I was under the impression that the first reich was the Romans, the second the Holy Roman Empire, and the third was the Germans in the 30's/40's

From wikipedia: The first Holy Roman Emperor was Otto the Great in 962. The last was Francis II, who abdicated and dissolved the Empire in 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars.

844 years? Nah, that's not long. Truth be told, the others were rather short though.
Anyway, that's not the right thread to educate on history.
