Re: Shinobi Girl
Honestly, you just should have stayed lurking. I agree that the average American falls far short of an enlightened citizen, and the US government is horribly corrupt (Honestly we're overdue for a revolution or something).
However, I wonder exactly how well you measure up to your own views of what a person should be? Do you actively take part in your country's government in any way? Are you able to recognize the shortcomings in it's laws/polocies and attempt to rectify them? Do you make any attempt to improve your countryman's quality of life?
Lastly, who are you to decide what people are deserving of mockery or not? I think we should all remember that when you start throwing shit around, you're the one who's digging through the pile of it.
Oh, and yes I am American. Most likely not the 'average' American. I don't happen to think my country or way of life is better than anyone else's (well, maybe better than someone that has to root through garbage for food, but who knows they could be happier than I am

) And I'm not sure what country is the greatest in the world, I haven't been to very many of them and I like to reserve my judgement untill I've experienced something for myself.
while I wouldn't have said anything if not personally invited to, here we go!
I never actually said people should actively take part in government, however, i was pointing out that many Americans seem to think that their country ISN'T awful (not saying any particular country is better or worse, lets leave that aside for now) and being so blind to the obvious is well... ridiculous, and thus they get ridiculed (makes sense?)
And that's the gripe most people have with the American stereotype, the arrogance, and just because America is being mocked for it more than others is influenced by dozens of factors I don't really care to name, like I said before, America is the guy that fell face first in a pile of shit and is the only one that doesn't recognize the situation it's in
Accurate or not, that is the picture America is giving the rest of the world, and that's what they will be judged (and by some people, condemned) for, and while I personally think the only correct assumption is the assumption that you're quite possibly wrong, you can't go through life without making assumptions
What you should always remember though, is that the biggest fool isn't the one being called an idiot, but the guy making such assumptions with no factual basis, if you let such words get to you, your just making it more entertaining, after all, if you poke a monkey with a stick its even more hilarious if it then trashes around screaming and throwing a tantrum (and possibly other things)
Now one last thing i need to mention is the "who are you to..." because really, that is one of the most senseless and pointless things anyone can ever say, because you can aim that same question right back, who the hell are you to ask me these things, who are you to question my views on life, who are you to this and that and go on and on, simply put, I'm me, and that's the answer to your question, it leads nowhere, you imply you need to have some sort of accomplishment to name before you can observe life, which is ridiculous, any moron can observe life, the problem is when people start assuming they're right about their observations, and that their observations are the only correct ones.
*edit*
On the topic of apocalypse, that really wont solve everything, getting our society turned upside down will simply mean we wont be able to properly learn from the mistakes we're so busy making right now, remember, growth isn't achieved by use of scissors ^^

/end ramble, hopefully truly back to lurking now *sneak sneak*
