Sorry, don't know what's causing that. I tested both the raw release and the patched game briefly and neither froze so it's likely something on your end. Some quick googling suggests it might be a driver problem but no specific solution beyond updating your graphics drivers. You might have some luck playing around with windows compatibility modes or disabling full screen optimizations.
If the problem persists you might post what operating system you're on. I really only have a windows 10 machine to test on, but maybe someone else can help.
