How are secondary weapons going to work? I noticed a "swap weapon" binding in the tooltips in one of the screenshots of Neon armed with both a rifle and minigun, so it looks like you have something more sophisticated than just manually changing what's in the weapon slot.

Also, I take it the paired blades are Malise's secondary?

Both characters are able to use two weapon types represented by weapon slots in equip screen: rifles and miniguns for Neon, revolvers and katanas for Malise. Both weapon slots can be used, but only one weapon is active at any given time. Active weapon can be changed almost anytime (including battles) and every weapon slot has it's own skills tetrad. This, along with many weapons of every type to choose from, should make any player satisfied.

Of course this represents part of current or planned state of things and may change anytime.

Combat in H-games is usually so boring and repetitive, really enjoying how much thought you guys have put into it.

This is one of the games I've been interested in, glad to see it's got a public demo. Think I'll check it out and maybe throw some money your way if it's as good as I think it will be :)

I just play the demo. And i can say only this...SUPERIOR demo for sure!!!
Top quality art!!!
I loved the damaged outfit and mosquito was great (i love gaping).
The only thing is missing, were eggs inside....
And it could be interesting, mosquito with the hand trap of the other monster (slime with teeth).

Questions:
1. Is bestiality into your plans?
2. Flies,Spiders,maggots.. all those little disgusting creatures
3. Egglaying and birth?

You gentlemen, just add one more big fun! :)
Congratulations! Keep up the great work!

Re: Malise and the Machine - Public Demo Available Now!

Really good stuff here. I'll probably take another run through it at some point and use that to go in-depth on what I think, but there's one thing I want to mention now.

The new 'Wait' options really go a long way in changing how combat feels - in a good way! This must have taken some effort to implement as an option rather than just deciding one way or another, but when the players get to choose what they want, everyone wins.

That said, while full active feels frenetic and chaotic, and full wait feels controlled and deliberate (both as they should be), full wait also feels very slow. Full active has you taking action while the bars fill, so there's not very much 'downtime'. With full wait, on the other hand, in between the actual actions, nothing happens...sometimes for several seconds at a time. It really makes combat drag on. Is there any way to significantly speed up the turns for full wait?

Technically full wait becomes completely about turn order rather than the actual speed of the gauges themselves. Bumping the speed up as fast as possible while still keeping it just low enough that you can still get an idea of who will take their turn when should make it more exciting.

I played the demo and i found battle system refreshingly nice and easy to use.
Great job!

Art is wonderful.

My only gripe is it's mainly tentacle content, it's not on top of my favorite things.

Are there any plans to add some rubber and bondage content? Like there could be tape dispenser robots to subdue enemies, and during their attack they tape up their victims into helpless state. Or maybe transforming suits into bondage ones, dampening abilities until removed in ARIS unit.

Nevertheless - great work and lovely game!

Seconded - tentatively. It's monotonous to run through long passages you've already explored; at the same time, going too fast means getting to a boss earlier than you're ready for, or tweaking up the encounter rate to compensate for that and slowing yourself down anyway because you're in a fight every few seconds. (And there has to be a level grind in any game with levels, or else there's no point to levels. Which raises an interesting question about how you've designed the pacing on that - N expected fights per level? Arithmetically increasing N each time?)

I have this feeling that a 10% increase in run speed would be as far as I'd dare go. Mayyybe 20%.

Thanks for the compliments!

Expect a lot of these things.

I recommend using one of the other two Wait options. There's a Wait for Action option where it only pauses when actions are being performed, as well as a Wait for Input option which only pauses when you are entering commands. From what it sounds like you would probably like the Wait for Input option as opposed to Wait for Input and Action.

EDIT: Also keep in mind you're playing at level 1. The end game will be significantly faster all around since equipment parameters and stats affect ATB speeds.

Thanks!

I wouldn't call it mainly tentacle content-- it just so happens that there's a tentacle scene in the demo.

As far as battle H content goes in the public demo there are two full skill chains per bio-monster per character (save for one against Neon due to the chest portion of her frame being invulnerable).

Regarding your question, there will definitely be bondage content!

Hey guys!

Affect3D has done a project feature piece on Malise and the Machine that you can check out here:

I have to say I'm sort of taken aback at how they seem to treat the fact that it's a heavily ryona based game as a flaw. What do you guys think?

Yeah, no... I don't think that person has played too many H-RPG games where most of them have a female protagonist which gets raped with every encounter.

First of all, it doesn't seem like they want a game that lot's of non-consensual sex. And they don't speak about most of the gamers either.

Secondly, I've only played the public demo and not the other ones so I don't know if they are much more difficult, but I only died a single time and that's because I went to the boss unprepared. So I'm not sure what are they talking about when they say "You’ll game over a lot to the point that you want to avoid what got you to purchase this game in the first place."

Affect3D is a nice site, but like every site that has reviews, it's usually just the opinions of a single person.

I'd say that EVERY game is going to have parts I dislike.
Heck, even if I get around to making my own game, I'm sure I'd dislike aspects.
Here's the thing: With entertainment in general, but porn in particular,
nobody quite knows WHY some brains get turned on by this and others by that.
Be it character traits, body types/features, settings/themes...
All we know is that the weirdest of things can be turn-ons, and historically,
people who cry "unnatural" and "obscene" tend to age out over time, replaced by more liberally-minded folk.

All I can do as a consumer is see if the things I like about a thing outweigh the things I dislike, enough to spend time/money on it.
All you can do as a producer is make the things YOU want to make,
provided that won't make the tax authorities call the police to arrest you on some local indecency law.
You can try to "fake it" and make what you think others want,
but you're always going to be better at making what you want than you'll be at making what others want.
Genuine enthusiasm is one heck of a quality mark.

I can see how a "ryona" keyword could be a turnoff to some,
but personally I don't see how it applies here - sure, there's light vore elements, but - have they ever SEEN japanese ryona?
I mean, nobody even gets an arm chewed off and sprays blood all over the place.
Instead, I'd say the nonvanilla elements allow for more variety, which is going to be important once this gets a bunch more enemies.
If this game was going to purely have "swallow or be swallowed" enemies I'd probably be concerned,
but as it stands - I'm up for some autonomous restraining/throatfucking worms in my games, every now and then.

TL;DR: "ryona" is too strong a word. Besides, variety is the spice of life. Fuck the haters.
Well, not literally. Unless they're hot, and consenting, I guess.

Re: Malise and the Machine - Public Demo Available Now!

The review was nice enough but really ryona is a tag for the game that doesn't even work for it. Nobody gets bruised or beaten or dismembered, etc.
This part however was a big laugh for me:

"More to the point, all H-attacks are imposed on the characters, while the characters themselves lack the ability to perform their own H-attacks. Basically, the only type of sex that is acceptable in this game as a consequence is non-consensual, which is an uninspiring decision at best and an inability to think creatively about sex at all at worst."

I assume they don't have H-attacks because they aren't really looking for sex they are trying to do whatever missions they are in the area to do (although a corruption system could possibly add this)

Re: Malise and the Machine - Public Demo Available Now!

Looks like a very positive article, despite some criticism.
Affect3D is a western-centric site, you shouldn't feel surprised that most of the hentai elements could feel foreign to their editors and most of their visitors.

I for one agree with the criticism for the H-content. Like I said few pages earlier - on my playthrough of the demo I saw only that last h-scene (with the girl being swallowed by the boss monster). Just because I gave my best to fight the enemies, losing a battle to see a rape scene is no fun for me (even taking a beating during the fight is bad, so I try to avoid that as well).
This is an issue I have with most Hentai games out there - more often than not the sex comes as you play poorly, rather than being a reward.
Like the author of that article wrote - sex is not a bad thing. Why should it always come as a punishment?
