ACT [八角家] Mission Mermaiden - Hasumi and the Deep Sea Sisters / ミッションマーメイデン -ハスミと深海の姉妹- (RJ268920)

Hey, that's a bit unfair. There are some great RPG Maker games out there. The Last Sovereign is just one example.

I've found for every good rpgmaker title there's a hundred generic Hrpgs that cobble together a vague story and tape a few static CG H images in there as their porn content.
While these titles normally have some great art, they're almost never translated and it's impossible to figure out where to go.

..not to mention getting japanese rpgmaker games to work on a non-japanese PC can be such a pain in the ass.

You'd feel the same if you saw the amount of lazy rpgmaker h-games (CG Galleries disguised as games) plaguing DLSite and other adult selling sites

There are a lot of bad hentai RPG maker games that are mostly just CG hunts, but the last game by this Author wasn't one of them imo. There were a lot of cool combat effects like hypnosis, bondage, sex attacks, etc. I would rate it higher among hentai RPG games than I would rate this new game among hentai platformers. Because though this new game has plenty of effects, it's to easy, so you can just avoid everything and finish the game, but his last RPG game wasn't, it was much better balanced than this is. At least, that's my experience from the demo versions I've played, maybe the full release version will be better.

I'm still hoping that we can get a translated version of that game I was really getting into the story shown in the demo.

Holy shit time flies in quarantine, felt like just a few weeks ago that we had the final trial version released. That being said in regards to the conversation happening, while i also think that there are A LOT of rpgmaker games, i kind of enjoyed Mizuku's undercrust, obviously having a translation helped a lot with the enjoyment but i thought the game was actually really nice. You had good H-scenes and the H-stuff also had a nice gameplay integration as well rather than just being GOR. Honestly speaking, if he made another rpgmaker game and it was on the same quality as undercrust i wouldn't be opposed to it even if i prefer action games because of H-animations rather than HCGs

It felt only a while I ago I bought a brand new 64-bit computer and being able to finally play this game's demo.

... that was back in January.

I wanted to like Undercrust but found its gameplay indecipherable, I should really go back and try figure it out

Undercrust is genuinely a great game. The in-combat mechanical loop is basically centered around dealing damage, slipping into bondage / hypnosis, and then escaping. Generally speaking, the game does a great job at making sure that you have all the necessary tools and knowledge available to be able to puzzle out how to defeat enemies (especially the bosses).

It's also the first time in an h game that I went in for the hentai, but by the end found myself with an emotional attachment to the characters. By the end I wasn't even nutting anymore. I was there to see Hasumi and Marco's story through to the end.

That is the kind of game that I like. A game where you could take out the porn and it would still be a good game that keeps hooked on the story and characters.

Just checked their twitter. It looks like they are on track for releasing this weekend. I mentions they are on the final play testing and adjustments

I am normally a much bigger fan of ACT games than RPGMaker games, but I was legitimately disappointed when they announced Mission Mermaiden was going to be an ACT game. Undercrust was such a great experience that I just wanted more.

And as others have mentioned, while the H-Content in Mission Mermaiden is fine, the actual game part is extremely forgettable. I hope they can improve that a lot for the next game, because it would be a real shame for a dev that made such a great experience in Undercrust devolve into a gallery-in-disguise kind of situation.

I don't think Mission Mermaiden is a gallery-in-disguise. It's an easy game, yes, however it's not forgettable. Just being a magical girl game where you can summon a minigun to melt a line of enemies or smack enemies projectiles back at them is fun. It's rather cathartic. What platforming is there isn't frustrating and feels smooth enough. It's been awhile since I saw ACT H-animations that were more than a loop steadily speeding up as the grab progressed. Not every independent creator can start off hitting home-runs in Unity. This is a excellent first try and I'd say it'll get an excellent reception. The question should really is, where does the dev go from here? Animations like this can only really be used in mediums outside of RPGmaker. There's two paths from here I can see, they could lean into the platforming element or go for a harder action experience. Or perhaps they'll continue experimenting and try doing something else.

I agree in that the game is pretty fine as how it is.I think it feels "too easy" because it is supposed to be played with some debuffs on,maybe?.That certainly ramps up the difficulty a bit.

However,I do feel like the platforming was a bit more varied in the 1st World, since it had stuff like death pits and more open spaces to jump around, while the 2nd and 3rd have a more claustrophobic feeling to them...BUT starting World 2~3 you have more puzzle based stages too, with backtracking and some alternative paths, which is a nice trade-off.
(Also starting on world 2,you get to the more spiciest scenes from the game~)

Speaking of what the devs may do next...it would be funny if they go from RPG,to 2D Platformer,to full Pixel Art Metroidvania (Something like Nekonomeme's LAB),that would be quite the fresh change, haha.

....for real tho,a Metroidvania starring Hasumi would be cool to see.

I remember people saying something like this earlier in the thread. That it's a cakewalk until you get some debuffs going. Maybe the dev should lock the game's porn behind the debuffs?

The problem is there is never any situation where you will have a debuff that you don't want to have. Virtually everything in the game is hilariously easy to avoid, and everything that isn't the slime doesn't put it's debuff on you unless you fail the struggle bar (sometimes you even have to fail multiple times). And even if you do somehow manage to get it, you can clear all your debuffs instantly with one button press, as long as you've actually been playing the game and charging your meter. And if you don't have meter, then you just have to use a purifier, which is so unbelievably undercosted, there is no reason not to always have double digits of them on you.

The only way to add challenge to the game is to not try, and that hardly makes a game. The platforming is just "go forward til you're done." Sometimes there are locked doors, so you have to go to the other forward. Combat is "hit it once and you're done." Or even let them hit you once, mash the arrow keys for a second and then you're done. Bosses you could argue present some challenge, but any challenge they present is mitigated by the fact you can full heal at any time, and with the super low cost of energy refills you can heal any number of times too. And many of the bosses don't do all that much damage to you anyways, they just grab you a lot, which is great if that's what you want, but frustrating if you're actually trying to beat the boss - not because it'll make you lose, but because it just makes the fight longer without actually putting you in any danger.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game for what it is. But the game part of it is paper-thin at best. Unless there are huge changes between the last trial and the final product, I doubt it'll score better than an "it's fine" from me.

The one bright side is that it's been so long since I last collected them that I don't remember immediately off the top of my head where all the fragments are. So I'll at least have one thing to do besides just taking a tour through all the maps again.

It's a game centered around debuffs, so that makes it tricky.
If the debuffs are too strong or are hard to get rid of, the game becomes a chore if you ever get hit.
If the debuffs are weak or easy to remove, then pretty much all the sex becomes optional.

I don't think there's a perfect solution here, but I know I prefer to play a game that doesn't make me frustrated, and especially doesn't make the game unwinnable if I ever dare to see the porn.
On that note, it sounds like the recent "Primeval Planet: Angimanation" is the polar opposite while still being a similar style of gameplay.
