This doesn't give a feeling of a nightmare hard game, it's more likely a case of an invalid assumption.
Namely, the author assumes telepathy is a common skill among humans: the author knows the obvious way of tackling the problem, so given the above assumption they consider anyone can just read their mind to find it out.
While google butchers it, some of the comments on the blog seem to try to get the point across that it ain't, but the author remains unconvinced. Though I might be reading it wrong, anyone who actually knows Japanese willing to look at those comments ?

I'm not sure how many people would find it helpful, but here's some quick-and-dirty scribbles about stuff.

Disclaimer: I'm not even close to finishing this game, this game is fcukhueg, I have absolutely no idea about lots of stuff, and I tend to gloss over the H-content. Take these write-ups with sufficient amounts of salt.

First off, stats: going by the stat screen, from top to bottom.
-HP: self-explanatory.
-耐: clothing durability.
-TP: probably self-explanatory. Regenerates at a VERY SLOW pace each turn/naturally, but otherwise boosted by normal attacking.
-攻撃力: Attack power. Influences physical AND magical attack power.
-防御力: Defense power. Influences (physical) damage taken.
-追加攻撃力: Additional attack power. Adds a fixed/flat amount of damage to every attack you do.
-回復力: Healing power. Increases the amount of healing from herbs, potions, healing spells, etc.
-戦闘速: (Combat) speed. Influences turn order and escape chances.
-技量: Skill. Depending on how high yours is to the enemy's, influences physical damage dealt and taken.

Now for enemy stats, going from the dictionary screen, from top to bottom.
-HP: self-explanatory.
-特殊攻撃: Special attack. I actually have no idea what this means yet. Every enemy I've met so far has 0 in this stat.
-攻撃力: Attack power.
-防御力: Physical defense.
-固定軽減力: Fixed damage reduction. A flat damage reduction applied to your 追加攻撃力 stat.
-魔法防御力: Magical defense.
-戦闘速: Speed.
-技量: Skill.

Some skills have certain effects; this will be listing some of them.
-I: "Instant". Skills (and items) with this tag don't consume your turn. They usually have cooldowns instead.
-固定ダメージ(x)倍: Multiplies your additional attack stat by (x).
-固定ダメージ(x)連: Calculates fixed damage (x)times. Usually a larger number than its other counterpart, but is affected by enemies' fixed damage reduction (x) times as well.
-固定ダメージ半減: Halves your additional attack stat.
-固定ダメージ無効: Does not inflict fixed damage at all (additional attack is essentially set to a x0 multiplier).
-Lv(x)装甲解除 (and similar phrases): removes the "armor" buff some enemies have, up to level (x) armoring. The armor buff appears on top of the enemy's picture; in ascending order of levels, I've seen breastplate(1) -> brown armor(2) -> plate armor(3).

Some random tips:
-Most of your stats (and skills) will come from weapons, gear and crests; level does comparatively little outside of increasing the power of Enchant Fire/Thunder/Lightning and that one piece of gear that automatically oneshots enemies much weaker than you (bought for free in the first village from BlackHatGuy(tm))
-First clothing damage tier is at ~600 durability remaining. Try not to let it get that far; clothing repair costs increase tremendously the more damaged your clothes are.
-Enemies often have differing weaknesses and resistances to the three different physical damage elements (slash, pierce, impact) as well as magical elements. Some enemies are resistant to physical attacks in general but are noticeably very weak to elemental magic. Experiment, probably.
-Just because the enemies in one area will pretty much oneshot/twoshot you doesn't mean you can't play Cops'n'Robbers with the enemies there. If there's no beef gate blocking your path, you can dive in, avoid all enemy encounters while opening as many treasure chests as you can risk, light a bonfire and homeward your way out with your loot intact.
-Bonfires recover health for free. You can (ab)use bonfires in dungeons as a source of healing so you don't need to spend your items and precious skills. Since bonfires also offer limited chances of recovering TP, you can burn all your TP fighting off the mooks and recharge before facing the boss.
-Enemies generally don't respawn until you sleep. You can (ab)use this to take healing/resupply/clothing repair breathers while in a dungeon run.
-Try not to sell any ores that have the (N) or (R) or (SR) or (L) suffixes, you'll be using them later.

And now, some very quick and not-detailed progression guide for now.
Part 1: beginning~boat
From the beginning, you have 6 places you can go to:
->The north forest is pretty much just a place to farm EXP, monies and blue tokens. Enemies here do a fair amount of clothing damage, mind.
->The south forest has a barrier you can't do anything about for now. Ignore.
->The north-east Bandit Cave features your first possible boss fight and a possible escape sequence from trying out the backdoor and getting caught but either way you'll want some levels and equipment before fighting them.
->Further northeast is the Undersea Cave. You have no hope of defeating the beefgate right now, but there is treasure and monies.
->Further east is a guard checkpoint. I personally didn't bother with it until way later.
->West leads to another forest, and the road to the next town. The healer in the first screen warns you to stay on the road. The path next to the healer leads to the Goblin Forest filled with OP gobbos but you can Solid Snake your way in and out for a bunch of quality gear. The tentacle plants in the west forest are pretty tough, but they do very little in the way of clothing damage. Possible bossfight near the end. Pretty easy if you're decently leveled.

->Second town: the place that probably offers the best rates for selling stuff. If you helped the guy in the west forest against the boss, you'll be rewarded here. Talk to everyone. One mom will ask you to look for her daughter in the mansion northwest of the town. Head into the mansion, fight your way to the second floor, dodge the souped-up enemies in the second floor (or fight, if you're confident) and talk to the maids. After getting intel, head underground and talk to the girl you're looking for. Ignore the superboss for now unless you want to die. Return to the mom's house to meet a merchant. You can buy some pretty good gear from him, but it's a bit expensive. Remember to buy a couple Salt bottles. Also buy a pair of sunglasses from the other weapon shop if you want.

->Lead Mine: just north of the second town. Ghosts here are fast and physical resistant, so use lots of fixed damage (shortspears) or magic. The Lead Golem near the end has stupid high DEF and MDEF but no fixed-damage resistance, so grab a shortspear, Enchant Thunder and go to town. Proceed deeper at your own risk, stronger ghosts there, but leads to the Bronze Mine. You can open a shortcut with the Lead Key dropped by the Lead Golem.

->Bronze Mine: accessible via the Lead Mine (or by sea). Zombies are weak to magic, but they have so much HP you shouldn't bother for now. Loot the place instead.

->Abandoned? Village: east of the Bronze Mine. Ignore for now.

->Third town: east of the second town. Sells Lead gear if you don't have better already. Break everything for a key leading to the locked house; ghostly miniboss in there so throw out the magic. One of the residents will ask you to rescue his sister from the bandits in the ruined tower SW of town. Nothing particularly special there aside from the crest the bandits can drop. SW in the town you can get into a fight with 3 pirates; beat them (Tornado helps) to unlock the boat.

Still WIP. Will probably remain WIP for a while.
->Get boat, go to 4th town; is where ores can be smelted for gear, also Lv2 crests, also talk to everyone as usual
->King's castle, Tower of Trials, unlock Charge and 3rd Crest slot

->With full Bronze & good AoE weapons, bully the pirates if you want but stay away from superboss from now
->With full Bronze & 3 good crests, can start actually beating zombies in Bronze Cave. Boss curses your ATK something fierce, so stack as much offense as possible (the gold crosses you can randomly find there might help?), buffstack and nuke it as hard as you can, beating boss unlocks Cupronickel smelting.
->Start to farm Cupronickel from the deepwoods south of 4th town
->With full Bronze/Cupronickel, take boat to small island north of 1st village, beat boss there for loot and unlock the Skill Temple
->With full Cupronickel, properly beat the boss of the deepwoods south of 4th town to unlock Lv3 crests
->With full Cupronickel & Lv3 crests, head to the Undersea Cave (east of bandit cave northeast of 1st village), lots of physical-resistant enemies with high regen there. Defeat Mimic to get key, use key to release the Kraken, beat Kraken to unlock Iron smelting.
->With full Cupronickel/Iron, Use big ship to sail NE to snow town, beat golem (use high power fixed damage attacks like wind/dark magic), unlock the snow cave, talk to everyone as usual
->Head to snow cave, smash&grab as usual, boss at the end has stupid high HP but is weak to magic, make sure you have over 21k HP to survive its superattack. Beat boss to loot a magical ruby key item. Make sure to give the wizard in snow town a Fluorite Magic Stone(N).
->Not sure when, but if broken bridge east of starting village is fixed, head there to enter Orc Forest; smash & grab, unlock Steel smelting at the end.
->If you have magical ruby from snow cave, sail all the way NW of the world map to enter weird ruins, use magical ruby to enter Floating City. Floating City enemies are super strong & physical resistant, recommend to have full Steel and/or the Wing items looted from the Floating City. Also thunder magic.
->Beating boss of Floating City lets you loot wind crystal key item; show it to someone in King's Castle, obtain Airship and 4th Crest slot.

->Use big ship to sail back to your home (SE of 1st village), and go through the scenes. Childhood friend reveals plot.
->With full Steel/Wing, sail northward to the destroyed town, next to the obviously ominous evil castle. Beware: entering reduces clothing durability to 0 (ow my wallet). Enemies here are super strong and come in groups but are mostly kinda glass, and also give out some really good loot. Some even drop Black Tokens you can trade in 4th town. Make it to NW building, beat up the gatekeeper, enter, fight/avoid the superpowered black knight in the 1st floor, head to 2nd floor to face your childhood friend. If you fight and win you get Samsara, a gud gear item... But if you REFUSE to attack (healing is OK), REFUSE to surrender, and REFUSE to be defeated, the battle ends after several turns and conflict resolves peacefully. Who needs Samsara anyway. Also, unlock Silver smelting.
->By now you should be able to destroy the barrier south of 1st village (wait for it to heal twice, then stack offensive buffs and hammer it as hard as you can, you need to do 4mil within 5 turns) to reveal Forest of Night
->Enemies here are super strong so be careful, but lots of loot and a very good source for Silver ore so farm away
->Reach dilapidated mansion in the end, touch crystal in second floor to be warped to boss room. Make sure you have ~50k HP to survive his superattack. BTW, the exorcist dagger (bought from BlackHatGuy for 1000 black tokens) or the silver dagger has a unique 10TP Vampire Killer stab that's supereffective so use that. Obtain key, unlock basement jail cells, grab loot, get Secret Key
->Use airship to go to SW village (air entrance only); buy Gold gear if you want, but the junk shop E of village has a door blocked by a girl, show the girl the Secret Key to access Lv4 Crest shop
->If you have at least 100k HP, you can head to the obviously evil castle via airship and fight the boss there. He starts by whacking you for 100k so heal up, if he tries to do it again use the first new skill you get in the Actions tab (the menu the Skip Turn skill is in).
->Smash & Grab in the Maou castle, remember to flip the levers in both upstairs chambers to unlock the second bonfire and the magic circle. Boss is basically Bronze Cave Deathsycthe 2.0, so take similar countermeasures. Beating boss gives you the key for the Maou Castle treasure room. Magic circle leads to the portal to the Final Boss Fight, so ignore for now.

->Grind up and gear up, maybe farm a bunch of gear in the Maou castle too, you need full Demonite or equivalent, next one's a beefgate; head to the abandoned? village next to the bronze cave, SAVE, enter the ominous middle building and loot the pickaxe (equip it if you need to). Exit the building, reenter the building and face the boss. He's very resistant to magic so don't bother with spells (aside from some of the cheaper Instants anyway), just buff up and rush him down with physical attacks. You have 8 turns before he casts Black Hole which hurts REALLY BAD and probably isn't survivable unless you go for a full tank/heal gear setup. If you lose you can't do this again (until you load) so don't screw this up. For your trouble you get the King's Ring, probably one of the best gear in the game, BlackHatGuy also appears to trade Rainbow tokens for Adamantite gear
->Swap to Additional Damage setup and go to the volcano to challenge the golem; as with most other golem bosses, buff up and spam wind/dark magic and other high-fixed-damage attacks. If you can't handle his supermove invest in a shield and use Guard Stance to help weather the storm.
->Unequip the pickaxe if you haven't already then use it to smash the black balls; explore the volcano (careful of damage floors), when you reach the 2nd bonfire take the left path to the superhot area; head to the deepest point of the superhot area while munching on herbs and downing potions like crazy to loot a special pair of sandals that nulls damage floors, equip it and loot the rest of the place. Continue exploring volcano, 3rd bonfire is right before boss, recharge & heal if needed. Remember to save, fight the boss (don't screw this up). When the boss tries to use "爆", use the first new skill in the Actions tab; When the boss tries to use "龍雷" use the second new skill in the Actions tab (or just follow what your friend Futuno does).
->Beat the boss and head north to grab the rusted Hero's Inheritance and unlock the 5th Crest slot as well as a new skill, Dragon Dive

->By now you should be able to one-turn the 8mil HP blue tentacle wall in the tentacle jungle, do so and loot the place for the final smelting book
->Take smelting book to 4th city (smith has no idea what to do with it), head to SW isolated village and show the book to the weaponsmith selling gold gear (talk to him from behind the counter), then head back to 4th city and select the new dialogue option that appears with the smith; unlock Darksteel, Magnetite & Cobalt smelting.
->Fly between the Orc Forest and tentacle jungle, land right on top of the bright green tree that sticks out; this is the Fairy Spring. Explore the place (be aware of super sturdy green knights, but you may want to farm them for the Crest they drop), at the spring in the end use the rusted Hero's Inheritance, see the scene, you now have the fully restored Hero's Inheritance (but you can't equip it).
->Grind up full Darksteel/Magnetite/Cobalt gear, set up for maximum Additional Damage (ignore defenses) and head to the Tower of Trials once again; there's a very well hidden staircase in the back leading to a basement. Talk to the soldier there to unlock the path to the new boss Titan; he has low HP but you only get 2 turns to bash his head in before he retaliates, and he retaliates like an angry Hulk.
->Take the Titan Crest Core dropped by Titan to the SW village secret crest shop; give it to the shopkeeper and she'll intel you on another hidden crest shop. Head to the Maou castle, walk over to the Deathscythe L's chair and show the same Secret Key to unlock the Lv5 Crest Shop for more escalation.

->With Lv5 crests you should be able to defeat the Old Beast hidden in the SE corner of the worldmap (roughly S of Futafuta village, airship access only) for the Aegis, probably the best armor in the game
->You should also be able to defeat the Evil Source in the SW cave (you need to do 450mil damage within 5 turns) for the Ein Sof Dark, probably the best weapon in the game
->Somewhere in the Lead Cave there's a rather well-hidden stairs heading to a very dark basement area; this hides the hidden boss Old One, who drops the amazing stat stick the King's Sword as well as the Dark Lv5 Crest.
->In the Floating Castle, the one robot you can talk to can be challenged. He reveals himself as Omega, the second-strongest boss in the game. He has a rather impressive regeneration, so you should probably take a more aggressive stance against him. His drops are, again, among the best in the game.

->After everything is all said and done, and you have recruited as many helpers as you can/want to have (there's other guides in this thread that give more and better details in that regard), head to the Maou's Castle and take the magic circle to the Final Boss Fight. The Maou is the strongest boss in the game by a significant margin, and seals your Dark Crest, so don't bother equipping it. Use the Hero's Inheritance at the beginning of the fight to boost your damage, and hope you are sufficiently prepared. One way or another, you'll meet the ending, and enter the NG+ Preparation Room.

That last part with fighting the childhood friend now makes me feel like a dick (I got Samsara). My translator didn't make it obvious that was an option and it mentioned that she was holding back so I thought, hey she might just show up later in the game to help out. But nope, killed her when there was a peaceful solution all along.
Anyways, for the destroyed town, if you talk to some of the girls (one of them in the first house to the left as you enter, I think) one of them will mention a Futafuta village and say its location. It'll then be revealed South East on the world map.

I have ran through the dungeons and forests (minus the side paths with crazy strong monsters) and I am still missing some types of tokens entirely. Do tokens come from chests? Or are they dropped by monsters?

For droppable loot, you can consult the enemy dictionary bought for free from BlackHatGuy in the second town. Though it doesn't give you where tokens drop, so I'll take over for that.

All of the colored tokens you exchange for BlackHatGuy's wares are dropped by monsters/enemies in combat. Note that it has to be actual combat; the instakill-weaker-monsters Issen(一閃) will NOT make enemies drop tokens, so if you're overleveled, remove the gear that gives you that skill.

Blue tokens are traded at the 1st village; they're dropped by enemies in the 1st village north forest, the west forest (tentacleplant area only) and the Lead Mine (N of 2nd town).

Yellow tokens are traded at the 3rd village; they're dropped by enemies in the Bandit Ruins (SW of 3rd village), the Tower of Trials (next to king's castle) and the Pirates' Hideout (N of 3rd village).

Green tokens are traded at the 2nd town; they're dropped by enemies in the Bronze Mine (further N past the Lead Mine), the Goblin Forest (accessible from the forest west of 1st village), the Tentacle Jungle (S of 4th city) and the Undersea Cave (NE of 1st village).

Red tokens are traded at the snow town; they're dropped by enemies in the Snow Cave, the Orc Forest (E of 1st village), the Floating City (NW corner of worldmap) and the Destroyed Town (right next to the obvious evil overlord floating castle).

Black tokens are traded at the 4th city; they're dropped (in VERY small numbers, but enough for you to buy that 1 token spear) by certain enemies in the Destroyed Town, but likely drop more from later enemies; I've not actually gotten further than "break the barrier in the forest S of 1st village" as of the time of this writing.

They're dropped by monsters you can fight after getting the airship, so in the Demon Lord's castle and possibly other places (I haven't explored with the airship much yet). They drop in the hundreds but the items you need have a cost of coins in the thousands.

Any clue if saves can be carried over? I assume not, but would be worth a try.

iirc Zombie boss cant be beaten with just hitting hard, no matter how much attack power you have (even if you cheat), you will deal 0 damage.
You need special item apparently?

Maybe need to equip curse resist item (the cross that zombies drop rarely, has resist curse lvl1)
but you CAN just beat it if your attack power is high enough (after curse)

PS. after you get the second boat, you dont need to worry about money for fixing clothes/well you are quite rich anyways at this point) you can get clothes fixed for free at your old home

Don't know which boss is the zombie boss but I've beaten most bosses including the last boss and some secret ones (missed some content so I might've missed a few) with just having high stats and none of them had item requirements. If the zombie boss you're talking about is the one in the cave that's near the empty village then you just need higher stats cuz I've beaten it with pure power and its a pretty weak boss compared to the late game bosses.
