(Open to New Players) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I certainly wouldn't mind a map or something of the sort as it would make tracking and navigation around this place easier. Also wouldn't do us much good to get lost out here and walk into something even nastier or better yet a lizardman trap. I've already been taken prisoner once because o my stupid mistake. I'm not in the mood to repeat that mistake but with a different enemy. Wouldn't look good on me as a ranger."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The mayor nodded. "I've a map, but it's mine. I would gladly let one of you copy it."

(INT mod + WIS mod to copy the map versus DC 15. Then Slieight of Hand to draw it in a way you can read it versus DC 10. DC 20 so others can read it.)

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Talia grimaced as she studied the map. She had tried her best to memorize it, replicate it in her mind. However, she soon found out that the task was way too different from learning alchemical recipes that she was used to working with. Each and every time she tried, some kind of detail kept escaping her memory or notice, no matter how much she struggled. "...This is much harder than it looks." She finally admitted, grimacing with obvious displeasure. "Somebody else try this."

Copy the map:

"This feels like something Kiera would be good at.," hums Laya, "Wonder where she got to this time..."

With Talia struggling, Laya nodded and came in to give a hand.

"Okay, let's see here..."

Laya takes one look at it and then nods.

"Yeah, I dunno how to work maps right either honestly."

(15+3=18)

"Seriously? Guys are adventurers and you can't even interpret a map properly? Goddess above you guys would be wandering the place for days at this rate."The ranger, quite displeased with the situation, would take the map for herself and interpret it. Quite the interesting layout honestly but nothing that would be crazy difficult to navigate. She'd copy it in the manner she was taught by her parents, making sure to make note of the various features and potential obstetrical of the surrounding area. However, she was mostly doing this for her own sake and would include symbols that a ranger would be quite familiar with but would require a little knowledge for outsiders to read. But the general layout at least could be understood. A start if nothing else. "Let me handle the map for the trip. Just be sure to follow my instructions and we won't get lost or worse."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I'm a bard. Course I'm not an adventurer. Well, now that someone has shown some competence, let's look this thing over, figure out a course... And if we're gonna need a raft to get through this.," nods Laya with a shrug.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Interpret a map I can. Copy it in it's entirety I can't." Talia grimaced, displeased by the ranger's criticism of her abilities in turn. "Forgive me for being an artisan and spellcaster and not a cartographer. Though if you feel this map is good enough to let us navigate the place, then by all means point us in the right way. But first. What are the most likely routes for the lizards to use?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The mayor answered. "Kidnappings have all happened near sources of water. Nobody had any reason to go into the water I'm sure, but it's evident that the lizard folk are using the water to ambush people, and retreat when odds do not favor them. That's my theory, anyway." she said, adding to the map all the locations where people used to walk when they got ambushed and never came back.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Are you suggesting they use paths we can't easily follow, ourselves? asked Kethanua, her tone carefully neutral. "Is that how you've interacted with them during periods of peace, as well? We've been cautioned that you had a positive relationship once, and asked to not spoil that if possible."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The mayor sighed. "Yeah, it's true. We used to do very basic trade, back when the other mayor was in office. He also did a lot of other shady stuff too, like indulging in the old corruptions made during the previous war with the corrupted. Though I guess you call them Unchained now." she hummed. "... It was a twisted sense of peace. I didn't like it, so I did away with it. The men in this town were abandoning their wives to go have some fun with the new lizard women and their looks they were adopting. And the women were sometimes... Used as trade. Even if it helped out town, why can't we have morals?" The mayor seemed to speak to herself.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"With a peace like that, it's obvious it wouldn't end just at this at some point." Talia shrugged as she gave her opinion on the matter. "Either way something was bound to go tits up at one point or another. Though right now the most important thing would be figuring out what to do with this mess. It's obvious we'll need to either remove the source of this corruption among the lizards or the lizards themselves, depending on how the situation develops. But first we need to get to them, which is where the problem lies."

The tielfing sighed as she glanced at the map again. "If the lizardfolk are truly using water to ambush people, it's highly likely they're good enough swimmers, or have enough boats to use it as routes for travelling across their territory. Possibly both. It's an advantage we lack right now and one that seriously hampers our ability to intervene." The sorceress pointed out. "Are there any boats or the like available in the village?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

''T-That’s absolutely horrible, how can any mayor allow such shady businesses to happen in their town? T-That’s not peace, that’s just indulging yourself in corruption. T-They even allowed slave trade, what type of immoral scum were those mayors? T-Those must’ve been some dark times for this town.'' Weiss said disgusted with how the previous mayors handled this place. Although, the town might not be in capable hands, at least they were in good hands.

''A-Are you crazy?'' Weiss asked Talia when she suggested traveling by boat. ''U-Unless we can get a proper vessel, going by boat can only end disastrous, and since were traveling along a river, I highly doubt the vessel is going to be amazing. E-Even if the boat is a proper vessel, what if they simply poke holes through the bottom and sink us. I-I’m wearing a heavy suit of armor, and they would easily drag me away while I sink to the bottom. A-And if the boat is just a row boat, they easily could capsize us. I-I don’t think traveling by boat, is the best way to go for us.''

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Then what else do you suggest we do? Fly? Or walk on water?" Talia chuckled mirthlessly. "Get real, Weiss. Have you ever tried to actually break a boat? It's made of solid wood, you can't just poke a hole through it with a knife and make it instantly sink. And good swimmers or no, I hardly imagine they'd be able to swing axes underwater. Capsizing or boarding is more likely, but they'd have to approach us undetected first, which is risky for them as well. And if I recall right, the terrain is a marshland, no? Hard to traverse on foot, and we may end up needing to cross water anyway."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"They use spears." the mayor said.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"So getting impaled in an ambush is actually far more likely, something that heavy armor of yours should help with. Though do they use boats, or are they that good with water?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya listens and shrugs. "Ladies, it's very very obvious that simply fighting them in their own terrain is inevitable. Fact is we're not suited to this territory and they are. So whining about it is not going to do anything productive. They can swim well and hold their breaths a long time. We cannot. Moreover, it is a swamp so a simple boat is not going to work. A good sized raft with poles perhaps. They might still break it or toss us overboard but well we don't have a choice."

She stretches a bit, "And since we don't know where their town is, this is not a small swamp, and there's no such thing as leaving tracks in water, logically speaking the only expedient path is to march out there and let them take us to their home. Or we capture them and hope they are willing to lead us there and not into a giant trap. Which I'm not too confident on, frankly. I doubt there are only lizardfolk out there, after all."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"And before someone suggests it, I am not going to go along with a plan that involves marching in there as their prisoners." Talia interjected. "Any plan that hinges on counting that your captor will be stupid enough to let you escape is an exercise in idiocy. That being said, if negotiations fail then capturing one of them may be our only option."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I agree with Talia. Anyone who tries to suggest such a plan is getting a slap on the back of the head from me. I really don't think we're going to come to any sort of productive conclusion here. Best bet is we get a raft and fight them off it, or we just walk and try to stay on the dry ground." Kat huffed. "Either way we should just go, not keep talking in circles."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Weiss glared at the tiefling a little, before facing the mayor. ''S-Sorry to drag you into this, but how smart do you think traversing by water would be, versus traversing by land against the lizard folk? I assume that limiting ourselves to a small place with nowhere to retreat but into the water would be foolish, and instead traversing through the marsh with a ranger to warn us for dangers would be a lot better.'' Weiss asked the Mayor.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The mayor hummed. "I've heard of them using boats before, but only when they were doing exchanges with our town. Since they fair just as well on water and land, I'd say you're better off choosing to fight on ground you're most comfortable with. I don't know if any of you were ever seafarers, but if you don't think you can handle them on or in the water, I'd suggest you don't do it... And try to avoid getting taken under, someone like you with all that armor is particularly vulnerable." she pointed at Weiss. "You'll likely have to abandon it if you are dragged under the water."
