(Open to New Players) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Kat made note of the drow's name, and that they were going to be dealing with kidnapping lizardpeople and not to murder them all unless they had no better solution and then stepped through the portal. She had been hoping to at least get a bath first, but unfortunately that wasn't going to happen so she'd just have to live with it any try to find somewhere to wash up on the far side. "Or maybe they just got some crazy person leading them too or something. Makes me wonder if we should get our own armies."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya perks up at the word party. "Party? I want a party. I've got all these songs and hats and... Oh You meant adventuring party... Well. Maybe when this is over..."

She promptly marched through the gate. "We'll figure out armies and soldiers and such later. Not that an army in a swamp against amphibious reptile people would end well. The Folly of Gorak the Destroyer is one such. The Half-Orc warlord had conquered all that lay before him, and sought a short cut to the final battle by cutting through the Swamp of One Thousand Graves. Sadly for him, his heavy armored cavalry and footmen could neither swim nor stop themselves from sinking in the quicksand around them. And thus the Swamp became the Swamp of Ten Thousand Graves. The moral of course being to venture outside of ones natural habitat lest one get's eaten by the ground. I think it's supposed to be an Elven Allegory about humanity but maybe it actually happened? Guess we'll find out!"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Even as she followed the group through the portal, Talia couldn't help but shake her head. "There are so many things wrong with your interpretation of that story that, for the life of me, I don't even know where to begin correcting you." The sorceress sighed. "As for lizards, I figure they're either being decieved, pressured or they've been corrupted. Not much can be done about the last one, but the former two could leave some options for a non-violent solution."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"You know, I half wonder. If they can corrupt us, can we uncorrupt them back? Or is it like 'it only goes one way.'" Kat said half to herself as they were on the far side, the dogbold looking around. "Also, does anyone livei n this house? Or is it ours while we're here."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"While it's theoretically never one way, the fact is it takes way more effort to decorrupt something than corrupt it. Since you have to want redemption. Corruption just happens. Usually Redemption is the sort of thing you earn after a long arduous struggle or at the last moment from a great sacrifice. But it's never easy or enjoyable. So it rarely happens.," shrugs Laya as she looks about, "And hey, who's the story teller here? I don't tell you how to be made of dragons or whatever, Talia."

Laya shrugs again. "One way to find out. Let's go talk to the mayor. Figure that's our best course initially and such. That way we can get right to the part where they aren't impressed by us and then we have to prove our worth."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"If they decide to be obstructive bureaucrats, I'm shoving my staff up their asses and shunting as much lightning as I can manage through it straight into the colon." Talia commented with utmost seriousness. "If I'm going to have to do this whole hero gig, I don't want incompetents fucking things up for me. I don't have to prove my worth to anyone. And if they want to complain about the champions they get, that's their problem." The sorceress shrugged. "And it's being descended from dragons, not made from them. For a storyteller, you sure got issues remembering the details right."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

''I-It did sound like the unchained have a hard time getting chained again, but when it comes to the little minions, it looks like as long as they’re on our side, they no longer corrupt us when they do… you know.'' Weiss added to Kat’s and Laya’s conversation with a little blush. ''W-We technically have some proof of that, though I’m not exactly sure when they cross that line. ''

''H-Hopefully they’re not, but if they’re, please don’t insult them and stay respectful to them, we don’t want to end up fighting both sides, and we might need to request something from them later on.'' Weiss requested of Talia. ''I-I just hope the humans will be willing to cooperate with the lizardfolk, because I have the suspicious feeling that the issue comes from them, and not the lizardfolk. Humans are known to bully around the lesser races, and disregard pleas from others if it even slightly inconveniences them.''

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Wait, wait, we're in a human village?" Kethanua asked, stepping through the portal just then. "I thought we were envoys to the lizard fo— Well, no matter what I thought."She waved the thought away dismissively, but it was clear from her expression the mistake annoyed her.

"Do you five know anything about the folk here? Who we should introduce ourselves to? How they treat strangers? Even how far we are from your town?" Fretting a little, the drow opened the door just enough to peer out, then closed it quickly against the light. "Actually, forget all that. It gets dark up here, ah, before long. Yes? Can the lizards see clearly in the dark?"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Hell if I know." Talia shrugged. "I sure as Hell can. I think dragons can too. If they're like dragons, they can see in the dark." She stated. "And to answer your other questions, there's a really fast way to find out. Namely, going out and asking people." She gave the drow an odd look. "Seriously, what's your problem? You're acting odd as Hell."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I don't have an idea either." Kat shrugged. "I just got here before we opened this portal. Can't hurt to go check though."

With that Kat went for the door of the building, opening it to check outside, and see just what they were dealing with here.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"I was hoping we might have some existing information to guide our search," she answered, shielding her eyes as Kat opened the door. She composed herself over the course of her next measured breath, all signs of discomfort beyond a persistent squint falling away.

"Wishful thinking, nothing more"

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Thia would walk with the girls, into the portal. "The lizard folk are somewhat neutral all things considered, so to see them going out of their way to cause trouble is unusual. They mostly will only interact with those who are near, with various results depending on who is leading. This time, they seem to be kidnapping." she said.

Walking through the portal, and out of the cottage, they emerged into a bustling small town, with stone roads and lots of people walking around doing their duties and going shopping. Not just peasants of the town, but also travelers were coming to and fro, it seemed like a populated village. Though, a large gathering was centered, where a singular woman was producing a speech. "Please listen, oh people of my city! We must not give in to panic, and seek to identify why the behavior has changed with their kind!" she pleaded.

"They're just lizards, going too far! Fuck the luzzards!" a villager with a pitchfork roared.

"We will not reason with those that took our family!" another said.

The woman held her hands up. "A-as the mayor, I'm still waiting on the envoy I sent to come back, and depending on-"

she was cut off by the rabble. "Your mother would have taken action!"

"They're gone, stupid!" another said.

"Not my mayor!" one started to chant, before the whole crowd was roaring at the girl, "Not my mayor! Not my mayor! Not my mayor!"

The girl looked overwhelmed. Thia hummed. "It seems the new mayor is having problems. I will venture forth to the next area, and activate that teleporter post haste. Please, do your best here." she encouraged, giving a bow and moving on.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

"Oh, this is just going swimmingly." Talia snarked as she saw the - new, apparently - mayor try to reason with an angry mob. So the villagers were pissed at the lizards and on the verge of exploding into violence. This made things much, much more complicated. Sighing as she shook her head, the sorceress took a few steps forward. "Right, give me a few moments. I got something just for this kind of situation." She stated with confidence. Reaching into her reserves of power, she used a small mote of it to enhance her voice, letting it boom three times as loudly.

[Thaumaturgy]

"SHUT! THE FUCK! UP!" Talia roared at the crowd with her magic-enhanced voice. Just to make sure they heard, she also slammed her staff on the ground, activating the cantrip again to release the sound of a thunderclap. Either of those would be loud enough to get their attention. Once she had it, the tiefling proceeded to part to of her plan, speaking to her crowd. "I am Talia Belderiver of Waymeet! One of the hero descendants sworn to fight any evil that plagues this and any other land. With me are several others, all capable warriors." She gestured towards the rest of the group.

"I understand your anger. Our home has also suffered an enemy raid, though together with the rest we drove the assailants away and slew their leader." She let her gaze wander over the townsfolk briefly. "That being said, what you are doing right now does not help ANYONE. Not you, not the mayor, and certainly not those who were kidnapped." She paused for a second to let that sink in. "Do not give into pointless rage and bickering. Only by standing united can we overcome this crisis. Rest assured: those people WILL return to their homes! For now, calm yourselves. You are not alone in this."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

While Talia kept the mob occupied, Kethanua pulled the mayor aside.

"Now is your chance to show them you put their interests first," she whispered, and her magic carried it into the woman's mind even over Talia's booming voice. "Without compromising whatever gentle sentiment you were just arguing from. 'Let these foreigners go to the lizardfolk,' you'll tell them. 'That way we don't risk losing any more of our own.' Tell them we'll wreak bloody vengeance, if you have to, though I can promise these girls would rather, ah, barter for your people's freedom." She nodded toward Weiss with a suggestive eyebrow-raise.

"But step in now and be a decisive leader," she went on to urge, "or you'll never get their respect back."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

The ranger would join the dark elf as she spoke to the mayor, interested in adding her two copper to the situation. Or at the very least try to ease any tension.

"She speaks true. Right now you want to make it seem like you're strong and have the situation under control. Our arrival is most fortuitous for your situation. And regardless of how the problem resolves itself, we'll get it resolved. It'll placate the people and get them back o work so the town isn't drowned in panic and fear. If the town seems like it's come to a standstill, powers could seek to take advantage of that."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

(Roll appropriate stats to see the effectiveness. Ex, intimidation, etc, when trying something like this.)

(Talia intimidation: 15+3+5bonus) Talia's shouting got their attention alright, as the mod quieted down. Then, (Persuasion: 14+5) they listened to her words, and cheered. "The heroes are here! They'll take care of everything!" they exclaimed.

"What is this? What's going on, who are you people!?" the mayor exclaimed, before looking at the drow who came up to the mayor. "... It seems they're fine with your idea of letting you all do it. I don't think it's good for anyone's honor to allow you to take care of this for me, but I don't think we have a choice. Still, this is all too sudden. I don't think I can reappear on the stand while they're cheering for you, and not me. I need a couple days to let the town settle before I get their attention again." she planned. "In the meanwhile... If you could deal with this problem, I'd be much obliged. In addition to their sudden change in appearance, the lizard folk have changed their behavior as well. I had thought that with all the reports of women kidnappings that an all male guard would be best, but... Those that attacked us were all women. In a monster kind of way. Please, do something about this, I can pay you with my personal treasury if you succeed. It will not be a small sum, I promise."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Laya watched as Talia and the others seem to have it all in hand, her humming a bit as she wrote down the situation. "Good start, don't need much edits I think..."

She moved over, listening to the mayor's description, frowning curiously. "Changed? How did they seem before? When did this all start? And how do the attacks occur and where? Any details you can provide will be helpful." Help the story details too.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

It looked like Weiss’ friends had everything under control, as the crowd was now cheering for them, instead of rebelling against the mayor. Lucky for her, she didn’t have to do anything, as Weiss isn’t too great at handling large crowds.

Weiss joined the other women in their private conversation they were having, trying her best to avoid the large crowd. ''O-Oh, that’s strange, I am pretty sure that lizard folk can’t change their appearance freely like that.'' Weiss said, curious how their appearance changed. ''I-I am kind of curious too, and do you maybe know how old their leader is, or if they got a new leader recently? I-It wouldn’t be that strange for their behavior to suddenly change, if their old leader recently perished or got replaced with a new leader.'' Weiss inquired.

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Kat frowned, and half muttered. "Sounds like corruption, or someone slipped a gender change potion in their well. Though I'm guessing they might not have all changed entirely if they're kidnapping girls still."

Re: (Open) Dungeons and Depravity: Revenge of the Unchained

Changed? How did they seem before?

"... Normal."

When did this all start?

And how do the attacks occur and where?

"We'd be able to stop it if we knew any kind of pattern like that. Anyone outside of town is at risk, and I've told everyone to avoid the eastern swamp for now, since that's where the lizard folk reside."

they got a new leader recently?

"I wouldn't know."
