Post suggestions here for various things you'd like to be able to construct in your Ranch. Try to keep things reasonable too, and try not to be too bothered if I change a suggestion when implementing it, or outright not implement your suggestion (though you'd have to suggest something outlandish or outrageous for me to not include it, such as ARTILLERY THAT DOES MASSIVE DAMAGE TO ENEMIES YOU'RE FIGHTING, or an INSTA-WIN MACHINE!)

Here's a template you have the option of using to toss out your suggestion. You don't have to fill everything out.

Name of the Construction:

Appearance:

Function:

Cost: (Because I don't expect you guys to really know how to price stuff properly, don't worry about things like basic currency. If you make something amazing however, such as an angelic crafting station where you can make an item that gives some kind of revival power as a passive and breaks after use, you might say that you'd need a Halo item to construct this building, which you would of course have to acquire in a quest of some kind to acquire an angelic halo.)

~~~Upgrades~~~
Training Dojo
Appearance:
picture.php
Function: A mamono can be assigned to train another mamono in various stats in which it is inferior. The rate these stats go up is dramatically increased provided the mamono doing the training has at least one stat that is extremely higher than the mamono receiving the training. (For example, if a Cockatrice with 150 Mamono levels dedicated to Speed is used to train a slime of Grade E, with 50 levels dedicated to her speed, for one week. The slime will gain 14 levels in speed as well as any other stats in which the slime has lesser points. In comparison, one week of normal training will raise a slime's speed by up to 5 points, raising the effective mamono level by 5 as well.)
All six stats are trained for the week, provided the instructing mamono has stat levels that are all higher. (Stat levels are basically the amount of mamono levels that make the actual stat as high as it is.)
Cost: 5000g for all the materials, and labor for the construction.
~~~Upgrades~~~

Technique Practice Range: 2500g Allows for mamono to teach each other their learned skills. (Some skills exclusive to race cannot be taught, such as a holstaurus ability to heal using her milk.)

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

The mail post could easily be used as a template for any business operation, albeit some might use different stats. Putting Sparkle and Ria to work at a candy shop based on intelligence or a moving company using power run by Gobbo the goblin, for example. We'd have to come up with suitable upgrades for 'em though, as the mail delivery ones aren't particularly applicable to every type of business.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

Fill it with pretty boys and that might actually work in the setting.

My thoughts exactly, although I was going to fill in those kinds of businesses with pretty much the same scheme that could easily work with the others. For instance, for Power mamono, a Guard Post for the mamono to have basic equipment to go out and patrol about to protect other Ranchers from rowdy mamono with their muscle power. An upgrade to give them a little vehicle to respond to threats better, and similar to the mail post, take jobs to protect Ranches that stretch beyond the territory, thusly into dangerous lands where they can get their butts kicked if they're in over their heads.

MAMONO BROTHEL

Whenever a man wants to have sex, he doesn't have to pay, all he has to do is look and he'll find a horny mamono that will fuck him. Termite be callin' it like it is, yo.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

I've added all of the structures one can build for each specialty stat, Speed, Power, Intelligence, Defense, Skill, and Life.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

The following three facilities take up a lot of space, and only one of them can be set up on a ranch. It is possible to turn a profit will all of these buildings.

Farm Plot:
Appearance: A plot of land fertilized, tilled and seeded for growing vegetables, lowering the burden of food costs significantly.

Function: Up to five mamono can be assigned to work the farm plot a day, each increasing the end of season yield of food based on their Life and Strength. Intelligence is used to reduce the cost of re-seeding the soil. Most mamono can make herself enough food for a year by working the farm for half the days in a season.

The downside is that it's not much better than potatoes no matter what you grow. Also, you can only grow potatoes in the winter.

Cost: An initial cost of 7,000g is required to get the various tools, equipment, permits, starting seeds and storage space. A seasonal cost of 300g is needed to re-seed the farm plot for another season.

~~~Upgrades~~~
No specific upgrade, however a Beehive on the ranch reduces the cost of re-seeding the plot by an extra 15% because of the more frequent pollination.
Orchard:
Appearance: A large area of land filled with large fruit bearing trees arranged in neat rows, lowering the burden of food costs significantly.
Function: Any amount of mamono can be assigned to work the orchard on any given day, but that's because it requires a large burst of maintenance a few times a year. After being set up, the tree branches need to be trimmed at the beginning of every season, and once a year at the end of a season based on the type of orchard, the fruits need to be picked before they go bad. Skill and Speed and Important for branch trimming, while Life and Strength are important for fruit picking.
If the orchard's branches are trimmed enough every season, the next harvest will bear under developed fruit. If the fruits aren't picked (properly developed or not), they'll eventually fall off and rot, which will attract pests like wasps and ants.
The only downside to an orchard is the amount of work that must be put in to maintain it. A well maintained orchard will turn a profit, or provide up to 10 mamono with a food level equivalent to milk for a year.
Cost: 25,000g to get all the baskets and branch clippers you could ever need, the small forest of fruit bearing trees, and a storage building for the annual crop.
~~~Upgrades~~~

No specific upgrade, however a Beehive present on the ranch provides more frequent pollination, which can double the annual fruit harvest.

Vineyard:
Appearance: A large area of land tilled, fertilized and setup with aqueducts to maintain vine plants.

Function: Up to 5 mamono can be assigned to work the vineyard, and the harvest produced is based on their Intelligence and Skill. Vineyards required constant maintenance from keen eyes and fine fingers, both to make sure the fruits grow healthy, but also to prevent the vines from over running the rest of the ranch. For one season, the vine plants flower for pollination, and the following they will constantly provide fruit.

Cost: 20,000g to get all the baskets and vine clippers you could ever need, all the seeds to plant the initial flora, and a storage building for the bi-annual crop. An annual 1,000g is needed to re-fertilize the ground, as the vine-plants quickly consume all the nutrients in the soil.

~~~Upgrades~~~
No specific upgrade, however a Beehive on the farm will increase pollination, but also eat the grapes and berries. A well attended vineyard can double it's harvest, provided the fruits are picked and stored before the bees can eat them.
Beehive:
Appearance: A bunch boxes the size of a person filled with bees. The bees make honey but may also sting you, so take care. Up to four hives can be purchased, one for each corner of the ranch area so that they don't attack each other. A fifth hive could be set up in the middle of the ranch, but that's typically where the typical ranch residents live.
Function: A single mamono can be assigned to a Beehive to maintain it, but this isn't necessary. Bees can take care of themselves quite fine, though fending for themselves against predators and parasites taxes their resources. Beehives produce honey, and well maintained hives with easy access to flowers can make enough honey to feed a mamono or two the equivalent to a Cup of Jelly every week for a year. A neglected hive will only produce a small fraction of that.
Intelligence and Defence are the important stats for Beekeeping.
Cost: 10,000g for each hive. Comes with a beekeeper suit and all the other tools needed to maintain a hive.
~~~Upgrades~~~

Flower Field: For 300g, a patch of ranch's land can have a plethora of seeds spread about that will quickly bloom into a patch of flowers. The flowers die at the end of the season, but that's long enough to promote honey production for a hive of bees, increasing their yield by 50%. Any number of flower patches can be seeded, though only a beehive will only benefit from one.

  • If there's a farm plot on the ranch, any season that it is being maintained counts as a season that all the beehives have a flower patch available.
  • If the ranch has an orchard or vineyard, then the season that it flowers counts as a season all the beehive on the ranch have a flower patch available.
  • If the ranch has a vineyard that is being poorly maintained, during the month that it bears fruit can count as a month that any beehive has access to a flower patch depending on the severity of the neglected vineyard.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

I'd implement all of these, but with some exceptions. I did state that you needn't list actual prices, and it shows here because there's no way I'd make anyone pay that much for any of those items, not when the special dojo only costs 5000g, and that's supposed to be expensive.

Another thing, I'd allow for all of these to be built on one's Ranch. I have never had any set limit in mind for how big a Ranch can be, though if there was a limit, it'd be a reasonable one that would only be a fluff-wise limit. For instance, just imagine the typical grand castle. Huge. Now, imagine all of these things you can construct also as part of your Ranch. All the buildings, all of the farmland. That's how much space you have, and you can still fit a bunch more.

Eventually, you can have a Ranch equal in size to Venice's city.

Huge.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

Mining Quarry
Appearance: A large open surface pit ramping downward into the ground, used for the collection of raw ores, gems, and stone.

Function: Any number of Manono can be assigned to work within the quarry, but unless they are Ants or specifically enjoy the hard work their loyalty will suffer over time. Quarry yield is effected by Life, Power, and Skill (Exhaustion, Pick mining efficiency, and general equipment operation respectively). Raw material can be sold, or stockpiled for refinement.

Cost: ?????g

~~~Upgrades~~~
Mechanized Conveyor Belt: ???g - increases yield/profits by 50% (Less time needed to haul things up ramp = more time to mine and put yields on the belt)
Underground Shaft Mining: ???g - Purchase of more tools and equipment to allow for mining tunnels where further rich veins of stone, gems, and ores may be found. Mamono on duty are instructed to accept certain grades of dangerous tunnel jobs and no higher. Life and defense is used to determine whether they are successful. Mamono with defense too low may go missing...
I had something in my head having a resource limit for quarries (only a certain amount that could be taken from the surface and underground before it's used up) and the ability to take a quarry and turn it into reclaimed green space for Mamono to derp about in, but that might be thinking too much into it. Well that and thinking about specifics for mine-able item types (way too much dwarf fort on the brain o.o; ). Also, not sure on gold amounts, but they probably need to be higher on the ? estimates, at least for the upgrades. Also something something, potential Exhaustion shenanigans, something.
Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions
Spooky Cloud Generator:
Appearance: This large appliance has three huge Tesla coils, dozens of brass pipes and a few light filled glass tubes sprouting out if it. While active, small bolts of lighting crackle between the coils. Occasionally emits a hiss of steam from one of the pipes.
Function: This machine is integral for giving your ranch the foreboding look of being cursed or haunted. Once set up, it will run on it's own and create dark stormy looking clouds above your ranch (which will ruin whatever plant life your ranch features over time). It is prone to breaking down, but Mamono with the know how can fix it, how soon based on their Intelligence. Untalented and uneducated Mamono may fail to repair a broken Spooky Cloud Generator all together.
Cost: Immense.
~~~Upgrades~~~

The Spooky Cloud Generator is a weather control device with limited features. Upgrade it to gain complete control of your ranche's external atmosphere!

Spooky Fog Generator: Upgrades the Spooky Cloud Generator to also lace your ranch with fog, enhancing to the eerie ambience created by the dark clouds above. You can also turn this feature all the way up to completely enshroud your Ranch, or keep it at a low setting to put in a mild increase in humidity.

Cloud Repulsor: Upgrades the Spooky Cloud Generator with a switch to reverse its polarity, pushing clouds away instead of making them. Also works on fog and mist. Everyday is a sunny day with the Cloud Repulsor! Be advised that prolonged use of the Cloud Repulsor will dry up your ranch as if it had been hit by a drought.

Precipitation Encourager: Increases the output of the Spooky Cloud Generator to the point where the dark stormy looking clouds actually rain. If you don't feel like watering your garden the normal way, or have been using the Cloud Repulsor too much, the Precipitation Encourager will moisten your ranch with a topical amount of water. Be careful, as overuse will saturate your Ranch's ground soil and cause a muddy flood. Use during the winter brings about snow instead of rain.

Temperature Control Matrix: A separate device that allows you to control the ambient temperature of your ranch.
  • Spring all year round? No problem!
  • Summer? Easy!
  • Autumn? Well, the trees will run out of leaves to drop, but it works!
  • Winter? If you insist.

Re: Ranch Construction Suggestions

Hows this for one?

Haunted House

Appearance:A building that is designed to have a scary, frightening, and rather haunted appeal to it. Examples of such buildings would be a run down and old school building. A abandoned hospital. A cemetery, and perhaps even a haunted looking mansion.

Function:It will work as its name implies, a haunted house for visitors to transverse and be scared out of their minds by the 'Monsters' that work there. Though quite a few times little things like a flash of a face in a window, small noises and a chilling giggle can work just as easily as one of them appearing in the 'victims' face and chasing them through the building.

Cost: Depending on the building or 'plot' chosen to be built it could be anywhere from 2000g to 15000g. A example would be the mansion as that could second as a home as well as a place of work.

~~~~~Upgrades~~~~~~
Upgrading the 'area' for a more bone chilling effect.
Smoke generator: From a thin mist that shrouds everything below waist from sight, to completely taking away the customers ability to see. A simple and not usually costly upgrade to assist with the 'fear'.
Shrouding the 'area' in darkness.: A system of either magical or technological design that completely submerges the area in the darkness of night. Making it so the place and be worked both day and night. And increasing the work hours such a building can be used in.
Hired 'help': Well, it could work as both hired help and people that have been welcome to take the place as a 'home'. From living dolls, ghosts, zombies living in the cemeteries, and more. They get free board and food and all they have to do is help frighten any guests that appear. Who among them wouldn't love that?
Props!: What's a haunted house without props?
Two reclining beach chairs outside of pool. And small set up for exercise. Mail is delivered to all guests from a small mail post at the entrance way. Room service/special requests cost extra.
Function: The hostel allows for travel weary mamono and ranchers to take a load off during their travels from one mission/area on their way back to their respective ranch. It can also serve as a getaway for rewarding mamono in between battles and jobs. It brings in 10-30 gold a night, depending on the proprietor mamono's Intelligence, Speed, and Tech divided by three.
