So, seeing as how we're on the last week of August... has that late Summer Early Access build materialised yet?
Nope. Add the game to your wishlist and it will notify you about the early access release

Subverse Senior Producer said:
THE BETA COMETH

I know all of you have been waiting patiently to know when the closed beta will begin and how it will work, so let's lay out the details for you now...

The closed beta will be available to all Big Bang Theorists (those that pledged £75 or more). If you qualify and haven't signed up for the beta yet, make sure you visit !

We will send out a message in the "Beta Oasis" room to let you know as soon as the first build is ready to go live. Builds will be accessed through a special branch on Steam, so you'll need to use your key and add Subverse to your library.

Initially, we're going to release the first SHMUP mission (including the tutorial) for you to enjoy. We hope to have the same sections of grid combat available not long after. Keep an eye out on Discord and Twitter for dates.

Welp, that "late Summer Early Access build" just turned into a late 2020 full game build if we are lucky, maybe even a 2021 build.

The 4,500 or so people who pledged £75 and above will still get some sort of beta access, but it looks like the remaining 53,000+ backers will have to wait a long time until they actually get to play anything.

Is that surprising to anyone?

It'll get leaked. Given it's level of notoriety even if they put some kind of DRM in place regular scene groups will be tempted to crack it.

Not going praise them for not doing EA. Sure EA is a cashgrab, but it's not like they are forgoing it out of the kindness of their hearts. It's a business decision.

Well, setting aside the delay they are very obviously trying not to admit... modular sex scenes, hm. One the one hand, that means replayability (heh), but on the other, that means less or no premade scenes, which means less writing and characterisation overall. Sure, it seems dumb to expect plot in porn, but that's what consistently sets H-games apart from western "fuck simulators" for me.

We'll see. If nothing else, I like their transparency on the whole matter.

Who's wanting to bet they've already spent all of their kickstarter moneies on crack and hookers.

I'm sorry, however the people who lack the discipline to keep their fetishes private probably aren't the type who you'd want to entrust with a 100K dollars. It'd be like entrusting a bunch of blood fetishists with monies to break the stigma around violence in japan. Not to say I don't believe the game will come into existence, I just don't think that a staff assembled around building a R18 version of a somewhat niche Mass Effect series is going to have anything beyond lukewarm success with the same people who are cheering it on now.
It'll be like Trial of Tainted Space getting a 3D adaptation with the fetishes curtailed to appeal to the sensibilities of the least extreme. It won't be any worse a blow to the mainstream than the Japanese indie games already being translated and ported to steam.

Edit: Small addition here. There's two standards this game can be held to and it's either the big fish in a small pond or the small fish in a big pond.

Yeah, I somehow doubt that their first outing into game development is going to result in a stellar product. Veteran companies that have made games for decades can't even guarantee that!

Look at H-games in general, one being a good game is RARE.

This isn't going to slap the mainstream. It'll be extremely lucky if it releases within a reasonable window, with all the planned content, and without a mountain of gamebreaking bugs.

A porn game being (almost) top ten in Steam's wishlist (alongside such names as Cyberpunk 2077 and Eldenring and above...well, everything else including many AAA titles) is already quite a statement. You don't see it that way because for one reason or another the journos haven't picked up on it yet (or they have, but they aren't covering it for other reasons).

This is the era of the Outrage culture. There's nothing to cover 'cause until there's an actual product people can get all worked up over and cry "ermagerd, sexism, mysogyny, this is everything wrong with society!" there's no story. Assuming this doesn't nosedive into oblivion, there still needs to be a game behind all these (currently) empty promises they're making.

Wait this is a shmup?
T_T
Why...
Why......
A mix of schmup (fuck that) and an isometric strategy game á la XCOM from what I understand, or at least from what was shown shown off when the game originally popped up on Kickstarter. Haven't kept up with it at all since then.

IIRC, you get to choose to only play the game type you want to. The other will just be autocompleted or something. So if you don't wanna do the starship stuff you can only play the X-Com ripoff part, and vice-versa. Who knows if that's been changed since the kickstarter though. I don't really follow this game anymore.

If anything, I hope this serves as a good lesson on how not to waste your hard-earned money. Or your dad's.
I was expecting them to run off with the $$$. Maybe they should have
