Re: The Battle for Vega IV

Terra managed to grab ahold of a restraint to keep herself from falling over the gunner before replying to Linda, "Well, yeah... But this ain't a vacation or field trip, and were not students. We don't need ask too many questions, just follow orders. There are very few times when many questions need to be asked and even less when orders need to be." She said straight faced before looking at the gunner who fell over into Lindas cleavage, "Hey, pal, we don't have any time for fraternizing. Keep your hormones in check got it?"

"I can see that Admiral. Main guns charging, and targeting solutions have been sent to the computers already. We fire on your command. Might I suggest we concentrate on their vessels one at a time? We will not win in a direct slugging match." Ariok replied, the AIs holographic form glaring back at Stukov.

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

The gunner groans as he sits on the floor, his hands clamped over his mouth, mainly trying to hold back his embarrassment at what had happened "Sorry, miss. Won't happen again. But them seat your sittin' in aren't as comfy as the bed of Tanya. She's been through the escape from this planet, now she's gonna take it back, ain't ya girl?" the gunner says, his southern drawl very prominent now as he stands and sits himself on the bed of the truck, patting it a few times and sighing. The transport soon slowed, til eventually it set down on the ground, extending the ramp and allowing the vehicle to exit, followed by the squad. Harris' voice then comes in over the earpieces in their ears. "Alright, marines. Listen up. The key objective in Tillan is to drive the Harbingers out and secure the central assembly building. Once that has been secured, we'll have a safe and secure supply line to the planet, allowing us to mount efforts to retake our home. Get it done. Harris out." The communication cuts out, as strategic data begins to feed into Kenzo's HUD module, giving him pathing directions into the city and towards the central assembly building. Already, other squads were moving into the city, which was billowing black smoke into the air from different sectors. It seems that some citizens had definitely put up a fight.

On the bridge, Stukov sat in the command chair, nodding to Ariok "Make it so, Ariok. Show them that even a crippled dog still has fangs." he states, his Russian accent flaring again, as the fleet is now floating directly above the massive ship. The Harbingers, sensing the deck guns powering up, shift half of their fire to the ship itself, bombarding the flight deck with their violet plasma bolts, which impact on the shield just above the hull, causing it to flare in bright orange hexagons around the areas of impact. It was at this point that Ariok would discover a hidden database somewhere within the deep confines of the ship's computer network, revealed to him only due to the new processes for the deck guns coming online. Were he to try and access the databases, however, he would find they had an encryption far beyond anything a normal human could create.

"You see it don't." Linda tells the gunner simply, then listens to the orders carefully. "Well, how's it goin' down, sir?" She asks Aramada once he's got his info, busying her self with checking the sights on her rifle as she does so, using it to get a look ahead at the terrain.

Her own mind was still going over that conversation on the way down. She follows orders, does it quite well, really. Doesn't mean she likes dropping blind. Hell, Terra probably needs to be ordered to shoot, dammit...

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

Having already strapped himself in, Kenzo couldn't stand to give each inbound member a proper salute, but made due with a crisp sitting one instead...

And was about to answer Linda when Niles left him with his mouth open,

But finally responded to the comment about being smack dab in the middle of things... Watching the retreating Paris out the window.

"Were most likely gonna be put down whereever were needed most, expect heavy resistance... If the LZ's too hot, we'll hike it... No use damaging the horse we rode in on, especially if things go sour and a retreat order is issued... By what I know of the Harbingers... Is that it's better to overprepare than be caught with your pants down..."

As the 4x4 begins it's own docking and the gunner begins questioning his own nessissity Kenzo replies "Doesn't matter... Your here for the same reasons we are... Beating back the Harbingers... Just make sure that things strapped down properly... Last thing we need is a Med-evac cause someone missed a tether... Hmm?"

As the violet lances of plasma strike the ship, and the engines go dark, and the ship begins its final uncontrolled desent into atmospheric doom...

Kenzo shakes his head (All those people... How many more are they gonna take before this is through...)

Then the atmospheric turbulence hit... And Kenzo tucks his chin, even with the helmets he's seen too many people get knocked senseless, He needed to think clearly if he was to keep everyone alive... And an early concussion wasn't gonna help...

Kenzo ignored the idiotic mis-acrobatics of the gunner, caught up in deep thoughts and his overall defenseive posturing...

After the rocky turbulence the slow almost floating easiness almost dragged on as they finally drew closer to landfall and finally touched down, offloading ramp opening up shortly before...

Kenzo lets out a quiet sigh of relief, one more reentry survived... Let see if he can make it a whole nother mission...

Suddenly Admiral Harris' voice breaks over the com, and Kenzo snaps to attention... As his HUD is updated with the nessissary layouts and heatmaps the objectives however he adds to...

"It would seem, that civilians have taken up arms against the Harbingers... Now with the old saying the enemy of my enemy is my Friend... I'm adding a secondary directive to our list of Objectives, Two more in fact...

One... Assist in Civilian Resitance or Retreat... We want to minimize Civvie losses as much as possible, it's highly likely that our coming here is what brought the Harbingers here in the first place... We should take some responsibility... And TWO... Rendezvous with whomever is waiting for us at Central Assembly Building unharmed..."

Unstrapping himself and removing his rifle he stands up and adds to this looking at everyone "How copy?"

"I don't have anything against self defense, but it only complicates matters for those who are trained and daily put their lives on the line for their safety, when Civilians take matters into their own hands." Terra complained as she picked up her rifle and gear, getting ready to unload off the ship. "Captain Aramada, sir, I need you to try to get the crowd under control and some cover so I can get set up in a decent sniping position. If I can I'll provide you boys and gals with all the best coverage from a far that I can."

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

As Ariok continued sending firing solutions to the ships targeting computer, doing so taking up little of the AIs processor power, he began prodding at the encryption around this strange packet of data. Where had this come from? What might it be? The AI mused silently, his holographic image silent and motionless as he devoted nearly a third of his power to examining the new database. The ships guns fired, never once missing, at one of the harbinger ships, concentrating all fire until one of the vessels shields buckled under the barrage. The next volley hammered into the ships hull with pinpoint accuracy, each shot hitting the same point, accurate to the nanometer even in the chaotic space battle. As the next volley tore the Harbinger vessel apart, his image grinned maliciously, and he muttered; "You see Admiral? I was wasted as a communications manager."

As the Harbinger barrage continued, Ariok also saw to it that the ship rotated slightly, the deck guns now shifting to fire at two different enemy vessels at once, all of the shots hitting within twenty meters of one another. The rotation would allow the hit sections of the Zaftras shields to recovers, and avoid some of the fire being directed at the dreadnought. "Admiral, while one of them was destroyed, we cannot survive a concentrated bombardment for much longer. An additional 14.3 seconds, at best. I suggest moving the fleet to the flanks and having them reengage, as we pull away."

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

"True... When Civvies begin doing the job of a soldier, things are always going to get hairy... Especially when the real Soldiers come in to take command of the Situation... But that doesn't change the fact, that these people don't know what there up against... There fighting blind, against an enemy that will ruthlessly chase them down... And kill them like a dog..."

Kenzo takes a deep breath and lets it out in a quick huff,

"I'll also point out that this secondary directive, is not among the initial briefing... It will not appear on your files if you followed through with it or not... And is completely optional....

Now... With that in mind, I'll keep an eye out for a decent nest..."

Kenzo brings up the heat map on his HUD,

"There are a few decent points... A few of them don't look too heavily guarded... You gonna need a spot?"

Niles steps off the transport, M-16 at the ready, pointed at any potential threats as he takes up position, waiting for the team to fully disembark. As the orders start pouring in, he asks "Captain, which objective is first? We'll get it done."

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

The driver of the truck pats the outside of the vehicle twice with resounding thumps, then begins to speak as the transport lifts off into the air, having left the squad on the ground. "Hey. Good news. Looks like you boys and gals get to pave the way while we shoot down any of them flying contraptions of theirs." he says, his own southern drawl showing through, though not nearly as thick as the gunner's. The passenger, however, sat silently in his seat as he checked the mounted .50 caliber gun. "Like the head honcho said, we're taking the central assembly building. Since that announcement came in over ours, I'm guessin' everyone's got the same objective. Let's go roll over those alien bastards!" the driver shouted, pointing towards the center of the city where a grand skyscraper stood. "But, I'll let ya'll determine the route we take."

As Stukov nodded to acknowledge Ariok, he pressed a button on the right arm of the command chair. "Fleet, form ranks. We need to pull back. Provide covering fire." he spoke down towards the arm of the chair, most likely into a communication device directly to the fleet captains. Though as he did, Ariok might crack the code surrounding this packet of information, and discover two things: The name of the ship, and something about a special Faster than Light drive hidden in the ship, though there was no indication where, as some of the data was corrupted, possibly from a database error.

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

"Well... Normally, I'd say keep to the back alleys... But those routes may be inaccesable to the LAAV... So, regardless of how heavy it's gonna be were going through the thick of it..."

Kenzo keeps his head on a swivel as he continues planning, bringing the map back up over his HUD he places two more blue NAV markers for the Team, one a few hundred meters inward, and the other... Up on top of a tall building less than half a block from the first NAV...

"Okay... Heres the plan... I set it up easy to understand, but it might not be as easy to pull off... It's quite a spread to first nav, get creative, make your shots count... And keep your heads down... After that we're splitting into two teams: Team one, Lapelle, Zod, the Doc and I are gonna stay here and hold down the fort... While Bridgetower and Zimmerman make there way to the marked building..."

Looking to the two of them,

"Find a decent vantage point, but don't give away your position till we finish falling back to the back alleyway... If these maps are right, then there should be a delivery truck access ramp... Should be more than enough clearance for our LAAV... And it'll funnel them in allowing you a nice clean grouping... Bridgetower, your a wild... We can either wait for you to return before making our fallback, or you can stay with Zimmerman and spot for her... Choice is yours...

Now... Everybody got there role?"

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

As soon as he cracked the code for the strange piece of data, Ariok put forth much of his unused processor power into deciphering it. An FTL drive? But they already had one of those? Why would the ship need two FTL drives? This was a mystery. The ships name he filed away as unimportant to his, though he did get his audio processor to say; "Interesting.... So the ships name is 'Salvation of the Stars.' How... Quaint." His gaze lingered on Stukov, clearly meaning for the admiral to have heard him, but not making it look like he'd been talking to the human. Meanwhile, he continued sending firing solutions to the ships computer, the shields of the two Harbinger vessels buckling beneath the decks guns barrage, before the alien vessels were torn apart by the combined power of the Zaftras massive guns and the fire from the fleet.

"Admiral, I am sending firing solutions to the other ships in the fleet. If we can eliminate two more Harbinger vessels within the next thirty seconds, I believe we can end this battle without further casualties. Requesting permission to use the comm system to interface."

Terra nodded crisply at the captain's instructions, "Understood Captain! I'm perfectly fine with staying behind and providing cover support. It's what I do best and was trained for. I'll stay behind till Linda has the all clear and we can make our way back to your convergence point ASAP. Does that sound good to you Linda?" She said as she turned to ask her accomplice. "Once I get to the building I'll stay low till I receive the signal, Cap. Just leave it to me."

Linda examined the area in her HUD for a moment before placing a new waypoint on a building across the street from the first one marked. "I can get nearly as good a sightline from here, and I can defend the place much better. That's a prefab building, the stairwell to the roof is rickety enough that I can rig it with a grenade to make it impassible, and we can watch the fire escape and you guys at the same time." She explains, then shrugs. "It's up to you, but I'm ready to go whenever, whenever."

Sgt. Zod checks his HUD, memorizes the local area map, and takes up the best defensive position around the LAAV. "Bravo Three to Bravo Leader: In position, SIR!"

Niles quickly starts scanning the surrounding terrain with everything from his Mark I eyeball to the various thermal, IR, & Binocs that came standard in his helmet, ready to pour fire into any Harbingers straying this way. Or even just a crazy civilian who couldn't tell friend from foe.

Chesse hear the instructions of a soldier named Kenzo, after nod he said a clmed yes when he asked if everybody understand. It was a nice and easy plan, now that all was seattled the Dr. look everywhere in case of an attack, getting ready his weapon in case of an sudden attack of the aliens, there was not time to get distracted in middle of an hostile zone.

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

The LAAV driver puts both his hands on the wheel, smiling as he revs the engine of the vehicle, the gunner pulling down the visor portion of his helmet "Awright, folks. Let's hit the dirt!" the driver says, as the wheels begin to spin in the dirt, then the LAAV begins to move forward into the city, the soldiers providing escort alongside it. Halfway to the first NAV marker, a loud whine could be heard as one of the Harbinger's in-atmosphere fliers streaked overhead, the gunner tracking it with his missile turret and screaming "Vanquisher! Low and hot! Take cover!" he yelled, tracking the small arrowhead-shaped craft before his turret got a lock, and he let loose two of his missiles, the flying craft veering away and trying to escape the projectiles as plasma bolts began to rain down around the LAAV, shooting from alleyways and windows, a total of 8 Harbinger Grunts initiating the assault, two of which were slowly advancing down the street.

The two grunts advancing down the street had their right hands held up in front of them, a small device attached to their wrists flaring with blue light every time it fired, launching purple plasma at the group, their tentacled mouths formed into what could be taken as scowls, as their scrawny legs carried them forward. All around them, parked cars and pieces of rubble might serve as suitable cover, though the two advancing Grunts would be a problem. The passenger of the LAAV had taken a bolt to the chest early on, and was gasping for air, as the driver had yanked him out of the seat and was giving him first aid on the road behind the LAAV, which mean that the passenger turret was unmanned.

On the Bridge, Stukov turned when he heard the name of the ship, raising his right eyebrow, then nodding at the request to use the comm network. "Make it so. I want those bastards gone. Harris! Give me a sitrep on the fight for Tillan!" he barked from his command chair, Harris turning and sighing. "Not good. They've got their Vanquisher multi-purpose gunships providing air support, and even though we have enough troops to match their numbers, that's still a disadvantage. We have to end this space battle quickly so we can get some gunships of our own down there." Harris states, then turns back to his officers, working at handing out field orders, as Stukov sighs and leans back in his command chair with a frown on his face. "Ariok, send word to the hanger bay, have our two gunships warm up their engines and arm up! We're going to need their firepower!" Harris calls out from his side of the bridge, staring at tactical readouts as the AI would begin to receive another data packet, encoded in the same type of encryption, but with one more layer of encryption than the first one.

Re: The Battle for Vega IV

Niles dives off to the right behind an abandoned car, making sure that he was covered from the advancing grunts as well as the snipers in the buildings. Knowing the strength of these creatures, he couldn't let the ground troops get into close quarters. Sgt. Niles opens up on the closer of the two Harbinger grunts, rotating between firing in three round bursts, taking cover, and then back again, always making sure to pop up in a slightly different place behind the car. He knows it will take a lot of rounds to bring the first one down. If the Harbingers get close enough, Niles plans to get down on his belly, firing under the car and kneecapping the bastards.

"Concentrate your fire on one at a time!" Niles says to the rest of Bravo team, lighting his chosen target up on their HUDs.
