The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Despite feeling rather warm, Kagura makes good progress as midday approaches. As she comes across an oft-traveled trail, she notices a fox sitting some twenty yards away. This time it doesn't dash away but merely looks at her.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

The way ahead proved to not have any immediate food to be chomped, but that did not bother Kagura too much as she went ahead on her way, almost cheerfully making it down the roads. Somehow she had regained her optimism after the encounters in the house. Eventually there is a development in her travels as she comes across a fox yet again, somewhat suspicious of it maybe being the same one as it did not flee from her this time around. If a fox was following her, there was a very real possibility of it being a spirit of some sort inhabiting a fox form. Going for an approach, she took care in it to not possibly startle the animal by being relatively slow and careful with it.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

The fox winks at Kagura, the stands up and starts leading her along the trail. Shortly afterwards, Kagura notices the marks of heavy boots on the ground, too big for any human. Then the fox moves to the bushes, continuing parallel to the trail rather than on it and indicating that Kagura should do the same. It doesn't take long until the pair arrives near a small cave and the fox stops. After a few minutes, a hulking red-skinned oni with a pair of curved horns and a large club stalks out of the cave.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

As soon as the two meet, Kagura comes to the realization that she was indeed dealing with a spirit of some stripe with this fox. She had a fairly concrete idea as to what it was, but did not completely rule alternative options out of the picture. If nothing else, spirits were unpredictable and varied. Following along, the miko is taken along a trail, an ending eventually coming to her as there was a cave. The inhabitant soon came out as well, the stereotypical red oni by the looks of it. While she knew about oni and how they were, Kagura did not go hostile towards the thing right off the bat, not being sure what they wanted. She stuck to observing for the moment, keeping herself alert if she came under attack by the creature. If it was talkative however, she would seek to engage in conversation and try to keep the peace.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Hidden as she is in the bushes, the oni doesn't appear to notice Kagura. The fox comes to sit down next to her, waving its tail around. "So how do you want to deal with this one?" the fox asks with a whisper. "I'd advice against honourable combat. You'd be lucky to escape with just broken bones."

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

In their current spot, Kagura could see the oni going at it's business without being a target right away. The time of deceit appeared to be over for the strange fox though as it spoke up, throwing away the little cover it had in the attempt of passing off as a normal member of it's species. Being accustomed to spirits and their dealings, the miko was not terribly surprised about the blurb. "I'd rather leave it be. I'm not a martial arts master or an expert magician, so I know I won't stand much chance in direct combat with that thing, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to end it quickly enough with a surprise attack."

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"I could distract it if you'd like, then you can hamstring it and we can finish it off together." the fox replies in a conversational tone as the oni wanders a little further away from the cave.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"You think it would be that easy? And why do I have to kill that thing anyways?" Kagura questioned the fox a little more as she observed the oni and what it was doing, feeling like she was getting dragged into something that she should not be getting into. She would keep herself ready though, just in case she was spotted and would have to defend herself.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"You mean you need a reason to kill an oni?" the fox asks, sounding amused and slightly perplexed. "Even other onis don't need much of a reason. But since this one has something of mine, I'll grant you a favour if you help me rid this forest of it."

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"Well, alright then. I suppose we can do this." Kagura agreed after hearing the brief explanation that the fox gave her. There was plenty of truth there, even if it was a bit of a generalization towards oni. Letting the fox do what it had suggested, she would follow the proceedings and wait for her opening to come up, going for a crippling strike once she saw the right moment arrive.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Kagura: 7 vs 3
Kagura: 5/5
Fox: 4/4
Oni: -1/?
The fox winks and dashes away before reappearing in front of the oni. The oni blinks in surprise before bursting into horrific laughter. "So the fox still wants its jewel back. What are you going to do, beg?" The fox spirit just stands there, waiting for Kagura to get into position before barking sharply and causing the oni's pants to fall down and him to bellow in rage.

The kagura makes her move, and the strange blade slices into the ankle of the oni, causing it to stumble but not, it would seem, hamstringing it like a normal blade would have.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Witnessing the silliness, Kagura moved once her spot came, swinging her new blade and not quite finding the results to be what she expected. Going a little panicky, she pushed the attack, hoping to make an impact before impact came back to her from the oni. She would have to ask Charlie what this weapon of hers actually was, as it did not appear to a standard weapon in magic form. But that would have to wait as there was combat going on.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Kagura: 19 vs 6
Fox: 15 vs 20
Oni: 6 vs 15
Kagura: 6 vs 18
Fox: 15 vs 2
Oni: 12 vs 6
Kagura: 5/5
Fox: 4/4
Oni: -3/?

As Kagura swings again the blade passes through the flesh at the oni's thigh. The fox shimmers for a moment, then the oni spins around, swinging the club wildly, making it easy for her to dodge. He manages to evade her next attack and fox leaps at the oni's back, causing him to stagger momentarily, but his next blow still catches Kagura, bruising her leg and causing her to almost stumble.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

The continued assault went on just like it had before, the strange blade not really making a visible mark on the target, which only made Kagura more frantic. She was not sure if it was even doing anything, but she had to try anyways as there was fairly little she could do without her weapon against the oni. Trying a fistfight would be the equal of giving herself up right away, so she would have to rely on her blade. The fox was helping, but the hit that the miko got onto her leg did not make things better. Trying to keep the pain away from her mind, she just pushed the attack against the opponent, hoping to use the reach of her weapon as best as she could.

Kagura: 14 vs 15
Fox: 20 vs 2 crit
Oni: 18 vs 20
Kagura: 20 vs 13
Fox: 1 vs 20 counter
Oni: 23 vs 10
Kagura: 4/5
Fox: 2/4
Oni: -6/?
Kagura misses the oni by hair's breadth while the fox pounces at him again, causing blood to spurt from his wounds. The oni roars in rage, but his swing just barely misses Kagura. Then she finds an opening, slashing at him again, but as the fox leaps, the oni quickly spin around, knocking it back and nearly crushing it with his club.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Finding some type of success, Kagura avoids any incoming oni wrath this time around, but her "companion" fares a little less better, getting smacked around rather harshly by the demon's club. The fight was still far from over though, and the miko kept up the tactic she had chosen as it appeared to be working at least somewhat.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

Kagura: 11 vs 7
Fox: 9 vs 14
Oni: 10 vs 13
Kagura: 12 vs 3
Fox: 13 vs 2
Oni: 21 vs 11
Kagura: 12 vs 21
Fox: 6 vs 10
Oni: 19 vs 9
Kagura: 10 vs 5

Kagura manages a couple more slashes at the oni, then the fox dashes between his legs only for the oni the club it hard enough to send the fox flying into the bushes. Ducking to the side, Kagura manages to bring the ghostly blade into a thrust, slicing deep into the oni's chest. With a look of confusion in his face, the oni slowly falls over and stops moving.

As Kagura is catching her breath, the fox returns, looking little worse for the wear. "Good job. You could've warned me that the blade of yours doesn't actually cut flesh, though."

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

The combat proceeded in a more succesful manner after fox smashing, Kagura managing to make good effort until she finally saw their opponent collapse from all the hits she had dealt with her odd weapon. Wiping away the small bead of sweat, the miko took another look at her weapon as the fox mentioned it. "Well I didn't know. Is that what the deal is with this strange weapon of yours?" she would ask Charlie, now that there was a moment to do so.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"One that's good for fighting ghosts. I didn't have substance to make a physical blade." Charlie answers cheerfully. The fox stares at the skull for a moment, then starts walking into the cave.

Re: The mountains and the forests(Kagura/Guan Yu)

"So, if I find you some metal, can I get an actual blade done? Not that there is anything wrong with this one, it appears to get the job done." Kagura asked as she decided to go and see exactly what she had helped the fox recover from this cave.
