I'm having a mild issue with the patcher. While I do have the patch itself in the same folder as the main game, in a folder with english lettering, ect, the patcher gets stuck at 99% without displaying a "finished" prompt at the end even after leaving it alone for half an hour plus. Am I doing something wrong?

TL/DR: instructions unclear, dick stuck in fan.

Somebody earlyear write down the method with pics what to do in this case.

In short terms: if its stuck under 100% you need to kill every patcher process (windows task manager), delete patcher created directory, and start the process again. I had this issue a few times 1-2/10, and this is helped me too.

Well, progress report time. Basically, I'm going backwards. Or not quite, but it feels a bit like it. As people should be aware, I develop my own tools and I use them myself. The current tools are not even beta quality, and so have bugs. In this case, the bug was that a lot of files weren't being read by the checker, which means I now have a load more things to do. I'm currently looking at something like 700 items to check (not including the "name consistency" check - necessary because it catches a lot of errors, like where I've put in the wrong name, but produces a lot of false positives because there's quite often a legitimate reason to translate names a different way in certain places).

Oh well. Onwards and upwards.

At least people with good taste in games are finding other things to do

Actually, my hope is to get this out later this week. We all know how terribly bad I am at doing time estimates though, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Some mitigating circumstances about the current delays - my personal situation has changed again; I'm back to full time employed as of a couple of weeks ago, and I've landed straight into an immediate deadline situation. This has kind of reduced the amount of time I can work on this. Longer term it's probably a good thing though; my previous status of part-time employed/part-time self-employed had me doing far too much in the self-employed part. Once the deadline has passed, I should have more time to work on hobby projects.

I just cannot seem to get RPGMaker Trans to work, stuck on 99% after five or so attempts. Yes, I've read the posts earlier in this thread about it and it doesn't seem to fix.

In any case, please refrain from making this thread about RPGMaker Trans technical support. There's one or two threads on this forum already about that, and that's already too many. Also I'll probably be releasing a new version of RPGMaker Trans within the next few weeks that has a new UI/everything else, so a tutorial now would have a very limited lifespan. The new version should also hopefully fix issues such as the one Shadow316 encountered - although as they haven't volunteered a bug report, I can't be certain.

Not sure I agree there - you give it a game, and a patch, and it goes. But whatever. That UI is not long for this world, so disagreement is fine.

Onto the main topic, I'm now down to 70 odd issues in my main round of issue checking, so that's going well. I do need to add a couple of more checks (for malformed RPGMaker colour codes, which I have seen in my translation), but overall I think I'm on track to release at the weekend. Of course, this statement is true only until I find the next catastrophic issue.

Moving on to something I'm toying around with: decensoring. Or kind of, anyway. I actually can draw fairly well, but not in the anime style, so I can't decensor this game by hand. What I am doing is playing around with dynamic super resolution (DSR) techniques. At the moment there's too many manual parts for this to be a practical decensor method for me, but I have done a proof of concept decensor for an image which... at least isn't terrible? It's not great, but that's probably expected given that I've used techniques well outside their normal parameters. Anyway, see in the spoiler for the picture.

I may give this a go on a few other images to see if I can get other non-terrible images. If I think it's worth it, I may try to make a DSR-based decensor program, or something - although I'd probably need some volunteers to help with this (to generate a corpus of images for training, and possibly for providing access to hardware capable of doing the training).

Meh, I got bored and quickly did a bunch of other "decensors". Remember, this is just proof of concept stuff at the moment, thrown together with bad hand/mouse coordination and DSR algorithms operating far outside of their normal parameters.

Best to describe these as "mixed" success; the first one is 'meh', the second is actually pretty good, and the final one has a really nasty looking artifact.

Overall I'm actually fairly happy with them. Sure they're mixed in quality, but given the fact I'm repurposing algorithms trained for other things and operating outside of recommended parameters, I think the initial results say that there's a chance this could work. I may see about starting a project looking into automatic removal of mosaic censors by means of machine learning algorithms - but first, lets get the next release of VPM done.

To be honest, it doesn't bother me that much either - the black bar censors you get in doujinshi/manga are far worse. Then again, this is an interesting diversion from the other stuff I do, and I'm pretty sure there's a lot of interest in this kind of technology from some quarters - especially in Japan itself. Depending on outcomes, this might end up as a commercial product of some sort - or perhaps not.

Honestly, they look somewhat less impressive at full size; ULMFs auto resize makes them look quite a bit better by making some of the artifacts too small to notice. On balance I'm still happy with them.

As to refining the approach - the first hurdle is automation, as you've pointed out. I'll be looking at making something to identify the mosaiced parts of the image, as well as the mosaic size. I think I know how to set that up, and once I've got it set up I should be able to hack together an automatic tool that applies this technique. The only question is if I can get access to compute resources that will let me train the model in a reasonable amount of time. After that I may go after improvements on the redrawing, but input data is likely to be the problem there... Anyway, that's all in the future.

And tadaa~! A new version of the patch released.

v0.82 translates 82% of the game. This is mainly everything up until the end of Act 4, and all H-scenes in Wiccaholt, Alchester and Frisbee. Some of the remainder is translated as well, but no story content. Also untranslated is the new content in VPM 1.1.4 - this will be in the next version of the patch.

I'll be working on RPGMaker Trans for a bit to get the new version out soon, because it really needs to get out there ASAP. Hopefully I'll be able to put some more time into this afterwards and get to the end of this long and gruelling road of a translation project.

Regarding the pseudo-decensor work

I've currently identified that a large number of the unpleasant artifacts I'm seeing in some of the algorithmic pseudo-decensors I've tried is due to uncensored foreground detail (normally bodily fluids). When I get a bit more time to mess around with this I'll be trying fix this by filling in the mosaics by hand so they're unbroken and seeing if that sorts out the issue. If it does, I think I've got a proof of concept that DSR-based demosaicing can work, and will put work towards making it actually a thing.

@Shadow316: No issue's been opened. Are you still having problems?
