What is Patreon doing?

the alternative is this:
abandoning Patreon and creating its own blog site is finding another platform for donation, because the artists will not last long, I say it from experience (I was a designer but not hentai).

Highly doubt that anyone will abandon Patreon as long as they get the money lol

We don't need another platform, we need another payment processor. Any platform is going to have to deal with payment processors, whether that's paypal or credit card companies.

I hope the other payment methods exist as you say.

Well there is Skrill, but for some reason a lot of companies have been abandoning Skrill for reasons unknown to me

ah the Moneybookers, I understand.

Patreon's recent changes are mostly about making you keep the sexy stuff behind the curtain. The public-facing part of your page has to have pretty clean images and just say that your work is pornographic in the text.

and they don't bother the "bigger players" as much, Studio Fow still doing well.

It's not that they weren't bothered, more like they already did something about it back when this started, because they knew they would get hit. And they've still been hit twice, from what I've heard.

As a smaller dev, the censorship hurts a lot =(. Was hoping to remain under the radar, but unfortunately that doesn't appear to be the case as even my little project (~9 patrons) was hit. Not that I had a big following to begin with, but my patrons have been supportive of me leaving everything public in the hopes of growth, and that's essentially not an option now...

At least once for Copyright infringement. Most of their stuff involve rape, and they still have lewd pic on their page.

Late to the thread, but I thought I'd write up a bit more of a concise timeline of events:

October 2017: Patreon announces new community guidelines: No sexual content whatsoever on anything public-facing, restricted to Patron-only posts.
-Lots of warnings, some suspended accounts, but most of everyone that I follow got everything sorted out under the new rules and resume business.
-Obviously hard running a sexual-themed Patreon without being able to directly advertise any explicit content, especially in attracting new Patrons as some in this very thread have mentioned.

March 2018: Patreon outright bans incest & beastiality.
-Creators like Summertime Saga group edit out any explicit familial relations, but mostly stay intact.
-Some games move their content completely off-site, you support the creator and just access their stuff from their personal website.

June 2018: Patreon starts cracking down on minor stuff from the same community guidelines.
-Even after the big cleanup, Patreon still finds some seemingly minor infractions here and there, do another round of account suspensions. Everyone seems to comply and have their accounts reinstated.

But also: Prior to June 2016, sexual content creators could not accept credit card payments, since most cc processors refused to deal with any of that (due to excessive fraud), and most adult content creators had to use obscure work-arounds with other companies. This was fixed through Paypal’s subsidiary company Braintree according to their wiki, making it way easier to accept payments.

So really, 3 big shakeups in the past year, but it seemed way more exacerbated by Steam’s recent shenanigans, where a non-affiliated group was able to suspend some adult Steam games by abusing their flagging system. The lack of communication on Steam’s part through all this shook a lot of the community’s faith in Steam as a stable, viable platform for adult games, although a few weeks later Valve announced a more open content policy in response to some other shit they were facing.

So really, imho, I think Patreon is just reaffirming that these are the rules going forward, get used to them so we can all make our money without any other issues. If you look at the Patreons, 11 of those are marked NSFW (even if some aren’t for sexual content) or 20%, so it’s not like Patreon is purposely sabotaging that revenue steam.

Anyways, as far as competitors go, I hear talk about enty.jp, which caters to adult creators although it is entirely in Japanese. Aside from hearing some creators mentioning it, I haven’t heard any updates on new Enty accounts though. Hard to say how worthwhile this will be, since there is a history of non-Japanese devs getting screwed on Japanese platforms like DLSite.

Additionally Pixiv recently opened Pixiv Fanbox which operates similarly as far as I can tell.
Fuck me, I'm gonna have to brush up on my JP since everything ENG is so restrictive (especially for a shota creator like me)
My JLPT4 level ass ain't good enough I'm afraid. Back to the flash-cards.

could you explain me better, I did not understand, but then this site that you said exists also in English?

One that support english would be Enty and Fantia

@Turrican
@bluewr

Yep, those support English. The point I was trying to say was: Though they 'support' english, they're dominated by Japanese. So you're really only tapping a tiny, tiny fraction of the sites natural views and searches unless you're typing out your products and rewards in Japanese. Additionally you've got the Chinese and Korean folks who may know neither ENG or JP (Though in my experience Chinese/Koreans are surprisingly good in ENG). Hope you're ready to say 'Hey you can support me here, but first you gotta click the little flag up top to make the site into ENG... Then you may also have to get a JP bank/card since US/EU may decline... Also the currency is in yen so you've got to convert to USD/Euro... Also...'

On my original point, I was just saying my JP is stinky baby tier (~JLPT4 if even). When I type out my rewards I'm not going to want to sound like I'm saying 'Please my monkey apple support to the carburetor' when trying to say '5$/mo for PSD/CSP, 10$ for game demo updates'. That way I can have JP on top for natural audience, ENG on bottom for external viewers.
