A lot of people (probably dumb zoomers that are too young to know any better) ask for Discord servers, or in severe cases subreddits for their "communities" for these types of things. I assume everyone here knows just how dumb of an idea both of those are.
I mean seriously, you've seen the subreddit the dunces have for this game, right? That's right, if you're from the subreddit and you're reading this, I'm calling you out, motherfuckers! Get the fuck off of Reddit, move your shit somewhere where you're not risking bans just for existing.
Discord evolved from applications like Teamspeak and IRC Chat. Discord still even *looks* like an IRC chat application to this day.
I don't think IRC is really built for shooting memes at eachother and embedding media straight into a chat channel, but I mean... Is we-have-IRC-at-home (Discord) really all that great?
I never messed with Teamspeak, but from what I've heard it does everything anyone wants, again without the constant threat of a looming server nuke.
Reddit ended up thinking of itself as a "successor" (it never was) to these ancient, decrepit things people used to use called internet forums. There used to be tonnes of these so-called internet forums, each dedicated to specific communities, many of them with their own subforums related to the main community/topic at hand. As lesser websites such as Reddit took over, and the clueless younger internet denizens flocked to these all-in-one websites (such as Twitter, reddit, facebook), the real forums lost traffic, users, and revenue. Many fell on hard times, and throughout the years, many of these "internet forums" have shut down due to lack of ad revenue & funding.
I've seen a few stories of these ancient, once-massive forums shutting down, and it's always sad to see them go, because each time one of them does go, they always take years of history on a particular subject with them. Decades worth of useful information, how-tos, guides, tutorials, etc.
The good side is, though, that there's usually someone around who still cares about all this stuff, and is there to archive this shit when it goes down, so it's not completely lost.
To all the unuseful idiots still using Reddit, just think of how much useful information will be gone when Reddit disappears, or if Reddit decides to restrict access to it all.
You can't archive all of that.
If only there were some solution... A place where you could basically choose what content moderation policy you're okay with. A place where if the rules, users, or administrators are stupid, you can just pack up and move to another website just like it, but with better rules, users, or admins... Like little reddits, each with their own little sub-reddits, but without the ugly as fuck, bloated web interface, and a search function that actually works...
Since I know there will be zoomers and tourists lurking through here, who won't understand the above paragraph, and you need me to spell it out for you;
What kind of website are you reading this on?
