Re: Would you date a herm?

I feel weird thinking about approaching the subject, but I feel like I'd have a hard time explaining to a prospective partner that I was into what they got going on without making it sound like I'm into them BECAUSE of it, and wouldn't want to make it feel like objectification, that they're just a representative of a fetish or something, but I think that's mostly difficult because I'm imagining being up for it without a specific person in mind, so it HAS to be the focus, instead of their personage.
This is what really bothers me. I really would like to have someone who has transitioned for a partner, but I'd feel dirty for actively seeking them out exclusively. I honestly think I would be very comfortable having a transitioned person as a partner both intellectually and physically.

Apologies if anything I said isn't PC.

Re: Would you date a herm?

That discomfort around others throws me in some things cuz, think about the transgendered bathrooms issue. Now, I try to be an extremely progressive person but I also try to understand everyone, and pride myself on the ability to play devil's advocate. And I gotta say, I don't really see a problem with other people being uncomfortable around people who were born the opposite sex as them using a bathroom that has normally been exclusively for their own sex.

And I get that people today are using their gender identification as a bigger factor of who they are over their born sex, but most people think that their born sex is the more important variable, EVEN IF they identify differently. And bathrooms, as most people have come to understand them, could easily be seen over the years as dependent on the person BORN gender (one example being urinals, a toilet pretty much designed for the convenience of people who have a penis). So I can understand trans people wanting to use the room they identify with because it's who they feel they are and lawfully passing that would be an act of validation for their existence, but you can't get pissed at someone who gets uncomfortable with being around someone who, on the only levels someone would know from seeing them in a bathroom, is the opposite gender in a same gendered area.

Personally? I think it's about high time we evaluated just exactly why there are separate bathrooms.

Re: Would you date a herm?

Personally Toxic, I agree with you, but the problem is there will always be those who will ruin a good thing for everyone. The floodgates WILL open when transgender people start using the bathroom of their gender identity, because there will be some asshole who uses an excuse to peep on members of the opposite sex or set up cameras or some shit, and they will lie and say they're entitled to use the bathroom of the opposite sex and claim to be transgender for their own nefarious purposes. People like that grind my gears, and I want to toss them into said gears and watch them get mutilated and crushed between them.

Except what has been happening is cis people have been ejected and followed because they don't fit the standard of what someone thinks a woman should look like

Edit: but that's not really what this thread is about, is it?

Re: Would you date a herm?

Wouldn't the easy solution be to have a third bathroom? Then again I guess we'd need x types of bathrooms  .

Really don't see why this should be a problem though. It's not a guessing game, or a social statement, there is a room for people with one set of equipment and a different one for the others, use the room you have the equipment for!

So a giant, beefy person with biker tats and a beard should walk into the women's restroom because they lack a tube of spongy meat between their legs? Eh.

I mean, sure, one might make a slippery slope argument that this opens up the question for how non-binary people should be treated with regards to toilet access, but I'm sure we'll manage that too.

Honestly, it's silly how scared people are of transgender folks suddenly turning into predators once they get the chance to enter the restroom of the gender they identify with. And no one seems to even vaguely worry about the cisgender predators currently existing in public bathrooms because... reasons?

How do I love thee, let me count the ways.

Trans people have been using bathrooms long before conservatives started scaring people with these bathroom laws and getting cis women in trouble because they don't look feminine enough in dress.

Besides, the number one predator of little boys is adult men. So.... There's that. No one has made a law stating that a person with a sex offense is not allowed to use public restrooms. You'd think that would be the first thing, not a lady or dude trying to pee in peace.

Also, as an nonbinary folk, I use whatever room I'm presenting as that day. To be fair, I use a gender neutral bathroom if they have one because that's really only where I'm comfortable, but my work has a sign to use the one you're presenting as, so... There we go. We enby people will manage and manage to be comfortable when we do.

And let me be the first to say that I love how civilized this discussion is.

Re: Would you date a herm?

To be honest if a transgender or a herm were to use the bathroom that they identify themselves as, I wouldn't really care. I've caught too many people naked to care at this point. I guess people are so closed minded that they act like they've never seen a penis or vagina, despite the fact most watched porn. >.>

Apologies for ending the civility, but wow, that's not a good point at all. Based on the idea that most people watch porn, despite that not being all people, or having ever seen a single set of genitalia in any circumstance, everyone should have no problem seeing anyone naked.

You're right maybe that was a poor choice of words, but yeah nobody at this day in age should be surprised by this type of stuff anymore.

You're doing it wrong, you're supposed to ignore Toxics point and use an ad hominem here.

To me it's very clear-cut, as alot of things are that others feel shouldn't be, it's not really anything to do with predators and honestly I don't care where you go as long as you're not talking in the bathroom (seriously, what's with this? It's a room to release waste in, not have a goddamn conversation, and FUCK if they didn't come in with you don't try to start up a conversation with the person in the next stall!). I use the handicapped one whenever I get the chance.

However there's a rule, the rule is clear-cut and logical, just like square peg goes into square hole. The majority of people are comfortable with the rule and conform to it, but would be uncomfortable if it were to be changed. We don't live in a perfect world, so the best we can do is try to make as large a portion of the population as happy as we can. Changing this rule would have the opposite effect, a minority percentage of the population would feel more comfortable. It doesn't make sense to put the needs of the few above the needs of the many.

Besides if you don't have the spongy tube between your legs, what more is there for you in the men's bathroom? Really just love walking through dried urine?

Re: Would you date a herm?

But the women's bathroom is so clean and nice, most men bathrooms have graffiti and urine on the floor. So don't blame a guy for wanting to use the girl's bathroom. :p

As someone who worked in the service industry and had to clean restrooms I say that the women's room was usually worse.

Yeah your right, I remember one time i had to clean the women's restroom it had a lot of bloody pads, tampons on the toilet and some strange yellow mucus like texture on the rim of the toilet.
(why they gave me thin gloves I'll never know) :(
