[WIP - Full] Virgin's Protection Magic Translation (v 0.82 released 23/07/2017)

I guess I am here to jump on the complain train too. As we can see from the title of this thread the last actual playable update translation patch was about a year and a half ago. That update had most of the game done except for the majority of the dialogue in the last chapter. Which isn't even that much. I believe all/almost all of the h events were finished, but I am not positive about that. There is not a lot of this game that was not translated in the 0.82 update. Even all of the cat's hints were updated. I beat this game in early 2018 with no real problems because I could just ask the cat, and he would tell me what was going on in English. That cat is great! At one point I remember November of 2017 is when the patch was supposed to be finished... There are so few lines left to be translated at this point I do not see how it is even possible for this to have taken this long. I know you are having hardware/japetrans issues, but this is just silly that we are in 2019 now. If you actually plan to finish it then I guess good luck, but if you aren't able to release the final patch before the end of February then you might as well just drop it. It's not worth anyone waiting for this to never finish, and it's not worth whatever level of stress this is giving you. Good job on what is made already. Legitimately a top tier unfinished translation.

uhh, don't get me wrong, i too want the translation finished, but no one can demand the translator finish faster because he is doing for free

I am not demanding him to finish it. I am just stating that this should have been done a long time ago. If he can't do it then he should just quit and stop pretending like it will be finished or that any progress is actually being made. Someone else seriously could have finished this a long time ago. Which you, me, and everyone else knows is kind of a rude thing to say considering that Habisain is doing this for free, but we also all know that it's true. This should not have taken three plus years to translate.
 
So, in case nobody noticed I am indeed watching this thread. And the direction this conversation has taken WILL stop. Not only is it patently untrue since none of us can predict the future or even what events would have occurred had those involved taken different actions, it's not constructive nor does it contribute in any meaningful way.
 
Uh - all - just shut up. Wait for the goodness, and stop the damn whining. Everything here is for our benefit, and all whining does is demotivate anyone for continuing to work (for free) for YOUR benefit...

PS - noticed almost all complaints are from members who don't post much - really? Just complaints?
 
Um can we just drop all this drama? And just let the important stuff updated?
 
If you guys spent the time and effort you do bitching, into learning Japanese, then maybe you wouldn't need these translators. :)
Plenty of free resources online. Just subtract one of your daily Chinese cartoon depressionfap hours and invest it into studying. You'd be surprised the kind of progress you can make.

You seem to be under the wrong impression that we have plenty of translator going around. If Habisain had dropped it, could it in theory have been picked up by someone else? Sure.
More likely tho, is that it (like so many many other games) would have fallen into limbo. There are probably more games around that have been picked up and dropped without it ever getting picked up again, than there are completed games.

Do I want to see the translation finished? Sure. But the reality is, the people who are interested in doing the translation of these games, are probably already doing something. Unless you know someone who is sitting waiting to pick this game up? Are you gonna be the one to do it? Are you willing to pay a translator to do it?
The best chance of this getting translated is to quit being rude, be patient and wait for Habisain.

You seem to think it being dropped is worse than the situation we are currently in. We are equally as close to not playing this fully translated than if Habisain had announced he could not continue after 0.82 update in July of 2017. Personally I think this is worse. I only made an account on ulmf to keep up with this game originally, and I barely use this site. Yet at least 2 times a week I google "Magic protects her purity ulmf" because I think there is hope for an update. I would prefer to be told it's dead, wait for someone else to pick it up. Believing in something that won't happen is much worse than being told that you are just shit out of luck. I have no idea if this would have been picked up by someone else, but it's possible. Am I going to be the one to do it? no. Would I pay someone? maybe... but probably not. This isn't about my role in this.

My main deal is that this translation is taking exponentially too long, and if you can't do it then just quit and let us know. Their is no harm in that solution. Do you even care if this gets done anymore, Habisain? I just want to know because it seems like you don't.

Also, you boys are soft as hell! allenjohn called this site a hugbox (which I had to look up on urban dictionary) and that's exactly what this is. This is a thread about a translation for a hentai game where you play as a cute witch girl who is trying to not get raped by monsters.... You boys want everyone to play nice, and if anyone says anything not positive are jerks and we should tell them so?? The egregious patience and constant "we're rooting for you posts" feel very out of place. I mean yeah don't be a dick to Habisain, but at a certain point (like now) questioning his desire to finish this is not out of line. You don't have to defend Habisain with the same copy paste uncreative "then you make the translation" replies. He's not getting attacked, and you're not helping anything or anyone either.

This isn't a hugbox. There are SO many examples, here on ULMF of projects dropped and entire translator teams that have decided to never translate again because of self-entitled brats like you. Look at what happened with Young Wife Souffle. I haven't seen Lonerprime pick up ANYTHING since, and it never got edited to the point it should have. Edited mind you, not retranslated, not creating an editing program like Habisain is doing, but simple proof reading, which should have taken a couple weeks, and people bitched to the point that that editing effort was almost certainly dropped, and the project remains in a WIP state despite the translation actually being done. I haven't seen anyone jumping up to translate that, so there goes your stupid theory that there is this plethora of translators just waiting to pick up the slack from long projects like this. You have NO evidence of anything you say, and think that the 5 seconds it takes you to look up this thread somehow entitles you to a right to pass judgement. You're the worst kind of scum, you offer nothing to society, and nobody would miss you if you were gone. I bet you didn't even buy the game, and now you're in here demanding a free translation for your stolen goods, supporting nobody and nothing but your own greed and lust.

Lol. I am scum. You proud of that insult my guy? Your lack of reading ability is interesting though for someone who types so well. I've said that i don't know if someone would pick this up to translate if it was dropped, and that outcome is not any worse than what is happening now. You did not even read my post you just decided what it said after skimming it. I think a person who never played this game until today, and saw that the last patch was over a year and a half ago has reason to pass judgement. It's suspect.

Of course I didn't buy the game. lol. If you did good for you. Let's not pretend that pirating hentai games is something we are all above, or if that if you pay for it that makes you a better person. Also who the fuck keeps demanding a translation?? It's not me. I am just saying that this is taking too long with no progress being made to translate this game. Which is true. Go back and actually read my comments before this, and let me know what you actually have a problem with. Besides the hugbox thing. I really just meant this thread, but I was not clear. I don't visit many others.
 
I am not the moderator who is monitoring this situation, but I'd advise everybody here to lay off the gas a little. I personally don't have any issues with people sharing dissenting opinions and don't even really mind the occasional flame. But if you're going to talk about the lack of updates to the translation, I expect the topic to actually be about that, and not just devolve into insulting others, which this is quickly turning into.

That goes for both the people who agree and disagree that it's taking too long.
 
As someone who doesn't want to read through all the bickering, any information on the progress of the translationg? I know you were working on RPGMakerTrans so progress on this translation took a back seat, how's that coming along?
Regardless I appreciate you taking the time to translate this, I remember I bought this on DLsite when I saw you were doing the translation last year or so. xD oh how time flies.

As someone who wants to do translations I have to add my two cents. First off, learning Japanese as a native English speaker without taking classes is hard as hell. I though learning the two base kana alphabets was hard. That was a damn joke. I've been using Anki learning the base 2200 Kanji for the last year and I still get 6-10% wrong on each run. Kanji is rarely a full word. It's typically a part of a word and a single kanji can have twenty plus readings. What is a reading? A reading is how the kanji sounds in it's word.

Take for instance the word, Teacher. It's written as Sensei. That's is two kanji 先生 or four kana せんせい. The first part in this case is 'sen' and the kanji has five different meanings. before, ahead, previous, future, precedence. It only has a single reading meaning that it will always sound like sen and be written as either 先 or せん. Now here's were the train wreck comes in. 'sei' is represented by the 生 kanji. This has two different readings 'sei' and 'shou'. When I see this symbol I have to look the word up to make sure I have the correct reading. On that note this symbol means life, genuine, and birth. When I see 先生 I say 'before life' since it's easy to remember. Now 学生 (student) I remember as 'Study Life' which is appropriate. The reading is gakusei or がくせい. I think I would do better at my Kanji practice if I could get a decent word deck for Anki but all of them insist on putting it in a sentence or hiding furigana instead of showing it as well as the kanji.

Then there is sentence structure which is also a pain. と is used to join words like 'and' does, but it also means 'with'. The target is declared and then not mentioned until a target change. Miss the change and bandits quickly start raping each other. When I hit a compound sentence I'm done for. Some dialog doesn't bother showing particles which is a pain in the butt. I'm left guessing when one word ends and another begins. Ironically kanji mitigates this issue.

Right now my studies are at an impasse mainly because I don't know enough vocabulary and my work life has become busy.

Now onto habisain. I think he never intended to do translations. I think his translations were mainly testing of his translation software. I've made and released tools like that in the past. There is also the legal issues. I've been very slowly translating a game that everyone seems to have passed up. I needed two tools to make it happen. One is habisain's and it translates most of the game. I also needed a TES decryption tool for main.rvdata2 and the one that was out there didn't work. When I asked about it, the author had a fix out within two hours that fixed my issue. I then wrote some software to speed up testing and syntax highlighting. After that I've been butchering the translation ever since. I'm slow because I'm a perfectionist and it's killing my speed. If I didn't care I could probably go a lot faster and the translation would probably work. I suffer from translator impostor syndrome which doesn't help. One thing that I'm careful about is stepping on other peoples toes. Recently I started translating some interfaces on Futaring since no one is bothering to do so. It makes me feel like I'm stealing someone else's work and just tacking my stuff on top. It isn't a good feeling. The reason I'm doing it is for myself. I would never take over someone else's project which is also why I won't declare ownership of a translation right on the game I've been cutting my teeth on. The legal issue is that habisain can't use any code for RPGM so it all has to be done by reverse engineering which sucks. It's slow and tedious. My questions have mostly been about the translation software since I'm more interested in what he's coming up with. I hope he creates a forum topic for that.

In a weird way I can actually sort of read Japanese and as I get better I can't help but wonder if I'll stop translating all together and just enjoy the games in their native language. I think translations are something fans do for other fans to get them into the same hobby. One thing I've learned is that Japanese isn't English. For those of you who just rolled your eyes or thought/said "duh" let me explain. I translated a sentence five different ways. Every way was correct. Each sentence had a different meaning. I translated the next few sentences and after a while the first sentence only had two correct translations that still made sense. That was it. I had two different translations of the same sentence that contradicted each other and both were correct and fit the narrative. I had to do a coin toss and write both in my notes for later. In the next few months as I get better I may go back and face palm on the issue when I figure out that I was wrong and the other sentence was more correct. One time I missed a topic change and had to double back when a bandit was getting his pussy pounded. Another time I had the wrong word (Confused い with え since I was saying it my head) and only realized I was dealing with vegetables when the person ate a piece of armor. Misinterpretation is far worse than no interpretation.

If a translator translates something be happy. They can read it already and they owe you nothing.

If you are a translator, don't take ownership of a piece of work. Put the translation on git and make it a collaboration piece so you can drop it if life dictates the need.

When I get my translation about half way done I plan to put it on git or whatever platform will allow it.

To do either of those, we'll need a legal tool like habisain's so our work won't get taken down.

TL;DR - Japanese is hard to learn, harder to use, and translations are a pain in the butt. Some people make software and test it by using it. Be happy when you get something for free.

That's a VERY carefully crafted statement to weasel around the fact that a good deal of the translation is already done and available, which is a lot more than what would have happened had no one picked up the translation, or had picked it up then dropped it. Your weaseling is duly noted.

Oh, and if he had dropped it at the point you suggested, then someone else would likely have had to start from scratch. We'd have far bigger delays if the world worked according to weasel.

You're right, because a thread about people waiting for someone to do something for free for them must logically have an equal share of negative posts to positive!!

In other news, a horde of trolls descend upon /r/kittens to equalize the positive comments about small, furry animals(weasels excluded).

I literally have said that I beat the game, and that so much of it is done that it is playable in it's current state without too much problems... I know I have a few posts now that are all pretty long, but don't shoot if you don't know what you are shooting at. Also this mini thread feud thing is pretty much done now so you can stop pretending to be hard on the internet. No one cares or is impressed with your witless remarks about a hentai game's translation progress. I don't feel like telling people to read what I have already said anymore because they can't do it themselves, or stating that I am aware that this may not have been picked up by someone else any more times than I already have. So we can all just stop... Unless Habisain himself has something to say about it.
