What's new

i think zell is dead. most of the time he post stuff every 2 weeks but since he started his new horror game he stayed silence. i dont count his cheap demos where it only shows H animation or the small development he is showing to us.

Dead people don't consistently post every 2 weeks. You can say he's slowed down considerably though.

As a fan of JSK, I remember thinking the same thing during the drought period of that dev's cycle as well. Zell's made a lot of content, so personally I'm happy with all the stuff he's already given us.

That being said... He's moving to a completely new engine you know. He's trying to use PixelMaker MV, and I'm pretty sure he's trying to convert FOBS into PixelMaker as well. This is no simple task, since he'll have to re-do a lot of the work he's already done. And the guy was consistently putting out quality works for like 4 years. Him getting burnt out is pretty likely all things considered.

I don't want to insult but I'm also not going to defend. Seriously, communicate, so people know what the hell is going on.

I feel bloody retarded. Wasn't it space that opened the inventory/collectibles screen? All it does is restart the damn game and puts me back at the title screen. Tried every other button as well, and nothing opens the inventory. Also, where's the guest lizard thingie? Feels like I've checked out the entirety of the plains without finding her.
I'm having the exact problem as you right now, pressing Space button (or changing it to any other button) just causes my game to go back to the title screen. Do you know what you did to fix this?

has someone a 100 percent save file for me?
Yes.

The button you changed was "Start" in settings/keyboard, right? Because that's the button which opens the menu.
"Space" is used in the title screen, to select the endurance bar style. Try swapping to the other style before starting/continuing.

Whatever Zell is doing, I'm thankful for the work he's done in FOBS. Awesome job, really.
If he's going to release another joint game, I hope he finds a better partner. Because the only thing I wouldn't criticize in SA would be the art and animations

Hmmm... as a fellow developer there's actually quite a lot to respect about Ansala.

For one, he made some great use out of his assets. Zell didn't have to draw too many environmental sprites. Ansala used 3D rocks with pixelated textures, some public bridge assets and made use of particles and stuff for water.

For the enemies, their patterns were relatively complex and combat with them wasn't completely straightforward for the most part. The boss re-fights especially were quite challenging. And he was able to do this without to many unique animations. The fox girl for instance has quite a few different attack patterns but she only has 4 unique attack frames.

At the end of the day, Zell didn't have to draw too much to make the game work, and that level of production efficiency on Ansala's part is to be respected.

And finally, the game runs well and efficiently in general. There aren't any big bugs, and the framerate rarely drops on a decent machine.

____________________________

My only issues with Ansala is as a designer. Zell has a better sense for femdom than Ansala does. Succubus Affection is 50/50 on maledom, femdom. That and the female assertive nature of the sex doesn't permeate into other aspects of the gameplay. For instance, in order to unlock the bunny girls in FOBS, you need to let two of them have their way with you before downing the third. From a design standpoint it brings out the specific eroticism of those characters. Not only does FOBS just have more female assertive sex than Maken Ansala, but it's part of the gameplay experience in more ways as well.

The combat's also really messy at times. It gets pretty noticeable by the time you get to the library. So much happens on screen, you have literally useless allies following you, and there's a million particle effects. He didn't think about the scalability of the system he was making, and with its combat focus, things just get messy.

I'm also not too much a fan of the RPG Mechanics. What I like about RPG Mechanics is that they offer growth. You grow as a player as you play the game, but I felt it messed with balance too much. The first boss is much harder than the second boss, and the mermaid to final boss is just cake. As the game went on the disparity for good macromanagement and bad was too wide. It would've been better if the RPG Mechanics were used to regulate sex related stats, and all important growth systems were at fixed intervals through the game. (Though this is just my preference)

Ansala was being hassled constantly to get the game out ever since Zell announced he was done with the sprites, so i can't blame him for just getting it done and getting it out there without thinking about design too much. Gotta cut corners somewhere when everyone paying your bills is screaming for you to finish.

It was like this since the demo though?
Design aspects of a game are there from the beginning. Just working to code everything is different.

Ah, then it's possible it was his first real game and didn't know any better. Either way, i didn't find any real faults with the game when i played it versus some of these other games, even AAA, that are currently on the market.

You can love something and still be critical of it. I quite like Succubus Affection.

I understand that, was just originally stating that he was being pushed hard by Zell fans to get the game out quickly as soon as Zell was done with the art; so it's likely a possibility that the later parts of the game being worse than the beginning in terms of design and balance suffered because of it.

Hmmm... the criticisms I had were general design principle criticisms. I won't deny he probably rushed the game a bit though. The game's balance really falls off the further in you go.

Due to limitations of the old engine, FOBS was split into two parts because the engine doesn't support high amounts of data (somewhere around 128MB or so). Since then, FOBS has an A and a B Side, with the A side being done by now, and new content being added to the B Side. The B Side starts you at all new maps and with all monster abilities already unlocked. Save files are independent from each other.
When you go to his blog, he'll have a link to his GetUploader directory where he uploads both Sides, now in japanese and english.
His latest release is posted for all to use.

Also, while zell wasn't explicit about his intentions, we assume that new updates to FOBS and his new project Shiro no Yakata won't happen until he's more familiarized with the new engine, PixelMaker MV. I'd guess he's currently porting FOBS over, both to have his project sorted out and to have the functionality of the engine preserved as much as possible.

Actually, save files are cross-compatible between A and B

@Kamil118 That's news to me. I've never copied my savefile to B Side, but I still had everything unlocked from the start. What would be the benefit, then?

I had decided to shut up, but...

Yeah, you've pinpointed one of the worse Patreon evils. I wish more would understand.
I don't eat meat, but I can picture 10-20 peeps pooling up to buy a pig, hire someone to slaughter it, and have a great BBQ. But 1000+? C'mon, too many hoinkin' piggies

Now, let's get back on topic. I just hope Zell doesn't feel too down. Try to get in his shoes, you might come to understand why/how this lil' adventure took its toll.
Looking forward to some more FOBS, whatever time it takes! :D

Yes. And no.

Just so the bump is less useless: Zell is neither dead or playing dead.

Steamでの英語版・中国語版の販売を検討しています。
時期についてはまだ未定です。申し訳ありません。
***it's still about SA if I'm not mistaken***
