One week...
Just watched the new Starship Troopers movie. Starship Troopers: Invasion. Tis an animated flick with a lot of Japanese design behind it. Much better than the last two have been, not quite matching with the original though as it turns out to be mostly a solid action movie rather than anything making commentary on society and government like the original or the book.
Really, the only thing I can truly nitpick though is some of the design choices. The underarmour for the female troopers was much more sexualized. I can understand why tight black pants and tank-toppy looking wear makes sense under power armour, but why does it look so different from the green jump suit looking thing the men got? Kind of defeats the purpose of a uniform to me. And the ship crew uniforms looked a bit too fetish style for my tastes. It would be good in a porn not here. I guess that's the Japanese influence, but still... Starship Troopers had always shown a pretty solid equality between genders, what they did here kind of ruins that.
Lastly, was the way many of the character deaths were handled (You knew it was going to happen). They were either so quick with character's you didn't even know that it held zero meaning, or they were always super-heroic. It got a little stale after a while.
Other than that, rather enjoyable movie. Good little pop-corn muncher that's just fun to sit back and watch.
