Re: Random movie talky stuff.

What do you guys think about these 2 movies 'Lavalantula' and 'Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf' !

I had fun with both, they had nice catchphrases and hilarious plots.

The second one made me think is Casper van Dien the next Bruce Campbell, will we see another 'The Evil Dead' soon?

Iggy, that's not a bad plot actually. A bit B-movieish, but if well paced and acted, sounds pretty good.

Chris, those kinds of movies are great if you're in it for the sheer ridiculousness and schlock of it. They're not "great" movies by any stretch of the imagination, but they can definitely be very entertaining, especially if drunk and with friends. Riffing on the movie and so on... Also, they're are majorly Internet-bait. If anything, some of them aren't schlocky enough.

And that's the thing. I felt the movie actually WAS very well-paced and well-acted, which is strange to say about a Shamalaan film...

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

Just watched 'Maggie' the other day. A rather different take on the zombie genre. Some of the biggest differences being: A) Only a small handful of actual zombies in the movie, focusing instead on what the young woman in the movie is going through, and what her father is going through, as she slowly succumbs to the virus. B) It seems apocalyptic in certain scenes, but humanity is far from being on its last legs. Indeed the world building in the first half suggests that the continental United States is still pushing forward. There wasn't much talk about what's going on in the rest of the world.

The movie itself is rather slow, the few scenes of violence very downplayed, and it's a rather down movie.

The ending you can see coming, but to me that wasn't a negative thing. It had this, inevitability about it that just wouldn't go away. Getting closer and closer. The final scene was rather heart breaking for me

Considering the last thing I saw Abigail Breslin in was Zombieland, I'm very impressed by her performance. And Arnold Schwarzenegger even showed off some good acting chops for it. Makes me think what he could have done had he gone the route of dramas over block buster action hero.

I found it to be a very good movie, and recommend it. Just be aware of the slow pace and that its a drama with elements of horror. Not a horror with elements of drama.

I highly recommend Megashark vs. Giant Octopus and it's unofficial sequel, Mega Python vs Gatoroid if you like that kind of giant monster insanity that Syfy loves to offer up. In fact, I can probably make you a pretty decent watch list once the madre's up, considering she loves her cheesy scifi.

I guess I should recommend Sharknado in that vein, too. Originally, she couldn't sit through the first one, but made it through the second. Now she wants to see "Oh Hell No" (aka Sharknado 3). At least I have Christmas ideas.

I'll have to see about talking to her. I know Ogre tops her stuff to watch. She liked the Sharknado series. She likes Lake Placid (the first one). Anaconda was pretty decent (even I managed to get through it.) Trying to think of some of the others. I'll try and be on same time she's in the room so I can get some more suggestions.

And, a bit back, some of you may recall me railing against the Stonewall movie that was coming out. Well, it did. And (I'm probably going to hell for this pun, but...) it should have stayed in the closet.

Part of me feels bad, because this was supposed to be a labor of love by the director but when you FUCK THINGS UP THAT BADLY, you kinda deserve what you get.

...grossed a truly miserable $112,414 from 127 theaters for an location average of $871...

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I watched Fury Road again with a couple of mates of mine, because they hadn't seen it. It was amazing looking at their reactions to all the crazy shit that goes on in that film.

Flamethrower guitar guy best supporting character 2015. XD

Haha yeah, I've been waiting on Fury Road for well over three years and it surpassed my expectations. I'm a stickler for details, but it was so good I really don't care that the director and writers pretty much have no clue what continuity is.

Forget all the social bullshit about feminism/mysogyny on these "news sites". Don't even scoff at the fact that technically Max is a supporting character in a movie named after him, if you only watch one movie released this year, make it Fury Road.

I agree. Also, he is still a badass. Actually, he arguably does more fighting than in any of the original trilogy films.

I asked her. About the only thing she's come up with so far is one called "Banshee." She's trying to think about them but for the time being, watch either this space or more posts as she randomly thinks of them.

Them. For yer list of cheesy giant monster movies. It's old, black and white, but that was my very first giant monster movie, and I love it to this day. A finale that involves the army fighting giant ants in the sewers of LA is pretty awesome.

If you're insterested in old b-movie schlock-fests, I suggest checking out The Cinema Snob's reviews. He riffs them, but they can also serve as suggestions for certain movies.

Oh, and check out the unrivaled glory that is Birdemic.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I will check out 'banshee' and 'them!' holy smokes (1954), that's real old!

movies I recently watched...again, coudln't help it :)...

virus(hiiiiku...Hikuuu...Hiku...HIIIIKUUUUUUU...jamie lee curtis apparently loves that name)
deep rising(just watched it for the crazy monsters in it, who are kinda explained with a sorta cheesy explanation in the middle of the movie, yaaay)
death machine(stephen norrington, what's wrong with stephen norrington I want to see a new movie where he is involved, last thing I heard was ...
supernova(like lost in space, event horizon, prometheus just watched it 'cause most of the movie is set on spaceships or in space, strange planets...)
tremors 5(nice addition to the tremors series, detachable tentacly tongues, oiiii)
Parasyte: Part 1(sadly just in japanese...)
Listening(nice plot, but the ending killed it, they could have done it with this particular ending but dammn it came so suddenly like 5 minutes of explanation...then came the ending)
infini(I was pleasantly surprised by this new movie, I did watch it 2 times so I could find some of the hidden hints to the ending)
Piranha 3DD(to be honest, I watched it only 'cause 'david hasselhoff' starred in it)

...trying to find any new bruce campbell movies and the last movie that gave me a bruce campbell feel without bruce campbell in it was 'Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer', but then that's like from 2007, and I watched it at least 3 times already...

totally forgot, watched 'the relic' yesterday night, not as gruesome and shocking as I remeber it, though!

Bubba Ho' Tep is about a decade old now, but probly up there for Bruce Campbell fans. And new, is the Evil Dead series coming to... Starz I think.

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I remember Deep Rising. So hokey, but it was fun. Watched that about the same time as Deep Blue Sea came out, too.

One of my 'go to' horror flicks is "The Faculty." I remember watching that, like, 12 times one summer, just because.

I remember seeing Relic in the theater. CB is a big fan of the book series it's based off of. I remember the then BF and I doing a "creature double feature" and we saw Relic and Mimic in one night. I also remember us doing Event Horizon and something else and EH was the second movie and he said that if we'd seen EH first, he'd have walked out of the other movie, but I don't remember what it was, sadly enough. But EH is good creepy.

Trying to think of "monster slayer" movies like Campbell stars in. VanHelsing comes to mind, heh, but it lacks a lot of the "camp" (ar ar ar)

If you ask me about the B-rate horror movie industry, I'd say:
It needs more Campbell

Re: Random movie talky stuff.

I did watch 3 headed-shark-attack yesterday, that movie even tipped me, and I normally like second/third/fourth rate crap movies.
I mean it felt like they hired some underwear models with no acting props. Then they dragged them in front of a green screen gave them a sheet of paper with their dialogue on it, and then screamed at 'em act, read, well do whatever you want we don't fucking care...I never saw a movie with so little enthusiasm considering the acting, plot, whatever; you just name it, it was like watching a dead fish in the water...for hours...
