Re: Games Discussion Thread

I don't see any reason why Bioware would make you play as that random guy in the trailer. It doesn't make any sense. Still, the series had gotten a little more gritty between the first two games, so I expected as much coming into this title that it would get even more so. The end of the universe is coming, this is the Return of the King essentially (to compare ME with LOTR).

I'm going to get it, and will be doing the same thing I do with LOTR, and seeing the entire Mass Effect trilogy as one game, just spread out a bit.

In other gaming news.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

A bit of the game plot was posted on EA's website before being taken down a short while later, you don't play as Brit soldier, you do play as Shepard.

Here's the quote;

"Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."

And where I got it from.

2011 shapes up to be a great year for PC-gaming especially. AC Brotherhood for the PC, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 3, Elder Scrolls V... oh, and , a Diablo-esque game using the editor from Spore.

Never mind that hopefully Diablo III itself may come out in 2011. Really it looks good for all forms of gaming.

On top of that, there's also Arkham City, Shogun 2, The Witcher 2, and (probably) Portal 2. A lot of good games coming out next year. >.>

I laugh at the combined hopes of people thinking either Blizzard or Valve will release a game. Such hopes are futile!

It's a small hope, but if nothing comes out this year it won't upset me at all. Plenty of other games to bide my time

I'd be fine with it either way, but Portal 2 sometime in 2011 is actually a pretty safe bet.

What, am I the only one excited about Mortal Kombat 9 finally coming out? I've been waiting for this since Armageddon (MK vs DC doesn't count. What a terrible idea...)

My excitement for this game is entirely pending on one fact - will there be a Kreate a Fighter mode?

Actually I am looking forward to MK9. Perhaps not with the same amount of excitement as Dragon Age 2 and Skyrim, but still quite excited. As for Kreate a Fighter... I doubt it, though I'd love one.

Also, Kratos is an exclusive character for the PS3 version.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Unfortunately, if I jump into Mass Effect, it's going to be with 2, since my dinosaurs won't handle the computer version (yet) and they're doing the second for PS3. My first reaction to the trailer was "Ooohshiny" and that was looking at the rubble *laughs* Willing to give it a shot. I like Bioware, obviously and I love good stories, too.

As for MK, I totally suck at fighting games, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy hearing that they're making more of the series. Anybody seen that trailer for the "updated" movie that was floating around for a while?

Re: Games Discussion Thread

What happened to half life episode 3 anyway? That's the one game I want to see in the near-ish future. The entire point of splitting the game into episodes was so that they could release them faster.

Portal 2 looks nice though.

And this is why I generally prefer a game to come as a complete whole, rather than split into parts to be released at the developer's whim. How long has it been since Episode 3 was promised? Will this be the new Duke Nukem Forever? Half Life Forever?
