Bukkit doesn't download mods to your computer. That's partly what Spout is supposed to do. Bukkit is fully a serverside application. I use it because it doesn't require a modded client to make full use of it. The recent mcmmo stuff with Spout is just extra and doesn't cause any functional difference between someone running Spout and someone who isn't. If we use this, or anything else that requires a modded client, it would require everyone who joins to need to have that, which I think is a bit unreasonable, especially considering it is, strictly speaking, a public server. Anyone with the address can join.

So, until Minecraft is capable of downloading server mods like this by default, I won't be using any plugins that require a custom client to use. Incidentally, that may be soon, if it's included in the official mod support Notch has been talking about, so don't give up hope yet.

Also, remember that when 1.8 comes out, the server won't be updating until there's a new build of Bukkit that is compatible with it. It kind of sucks, since you can either play on the server, or enjoy the new stuff, but not both, but it's only temporary.
Unless the new mod support won't require Bukkit, of course. It could be similar to how Blockland works add-ons: a folder for mods/add-ons, and then a zip or rar the game uses the files from. Anyone that joins the server temporarily works off the hosting server's active addons. I do agree that if this shows up for whatever mod support MC gets in 1.8 I'll try again :p

EDIT: also popped on for a bit and started to track down the tunnel. I forgot how low supplies standard trackwise were getting in my inventory, and I'm not sure if we'll get a one-way with what we got ^^; aditionally, the open tunnels near the track area were hissing. Someone may wanna either pin it closed or ensure it's clearish.

Double toast but I figured that some people may find this gadget interesting:



It's a planning software for various Minecraft builds. It doesn't have anything beyond full blocks, however (no ladders, no doors, no MC track) however it allows you to get a basic idea what your structure is going to look like.

I'm currently using it to do a mockup of both a castle I wanna put on the server for 1.8 and a battle arena for the coloseum mod, should I get my design approved by Maiko that is.

Dug a little bit of the tunnel to Shrike's place... then got lost in a cave. When I came back out, I walked back to the market to drop some stuff and refill some stocks. I found some tracks going into the tunnel to Taken Station, so after re-arranging my house and selling some gravel, I used up my iron extending the track. I think I got a little past halfway. I still have many Restone Torches and Powered Rails left over, even after putting down the ones leading to Taken Station.

Also, I'm thinking of selling some Diamonds. Is 700 dollars too little for one of them?

Thanks for the help :3 I'll come back and put smoothstone under the rails all the way later, but it should speed up the work process.

Cool. Be careful, though. Some of those cobbles wall off caves I didn't want to explore and light up.

I also have the station powered rails up and buttoned properly.

I haven't looked too much at this, but the premise sounds... intriguing at least.

Give me unlimited resources and I will build a gym#8 that will make grown men cry. I will create a maze so diabolical, it will be the highlight of your life.

It will also take a month to reset.

Put down the rails to connect Metro Central to Taken Station. There's also a track going down the tunnel to Shrike's place (which I'm calling China because of how far it is), but's not even close to getting how far I've excavated so far, let alone going to Shrike.

There's so many caves systems to light up. It'll make great scenery when done, though.

You've got a point, though this subway will be for nought if we do get a reset. Not that I personally mind all that much, though I will want all my wool back. That's all I care about after all.

There's like two or three variations of what may happen to old worlds going around:

A. All old worlds, like older updates during Beta, will simply need to expand into new world chunks to have the new blocks. Otherwise, it'll be just like old times closer to home, but the farther you get, the more new stuff appears.

B. The worlds will essentially be 'instanced' into a pre-1.8 setting. They'll still be playable, but will not have access to ANYTHING new.

C. Old worlds will be broken on 1.8, at which point new worlds must be created. Period.

Sad thing is, there's no real official word on the subject so we can't tell what's gonna happen :<

Well, the way they handled new blocks before was pretty much your option A, so I was hoping this would be how they'd do it with 1.8 as well.

Personally, A is the best case scinario, however I'm not gonna complain too much if B is the eventuality. As that means various megaprojects people have done over the years will be recoverable and all that. It depends exactly how much of the base coding have changed in Minecraft before it's released anad revamped, mostly.

Eh... I'm probably going to start a new castle upon the update anyway. I kind of got myself at a point that I'm not sure what I want to do at the moment. We'll see what happens.

I've already got several plans should we have a reset. Most being various farms for me to, well, farm.

My 'main' megaprojects I'm planning I'll probably test-build in Creative mode, so I get my dimensions and so on correct, as it's pretty much gonna be a self-sustained fort and castle, with farm, smelting operations, and full barracks, castle dungeon and wall with entry guardhouse, complete with arrow trap. (the wall I was thinking of making the foundation of Obsidian, for longevity's sake.) If I make it on the server I'd probably waste materials figuring stuff out first, and when done I'll probably make areas in the barracks for players to stay for the night, so to speak.

Double Toast, but random rumors and other speculation (which I'm trying to verify) is saying that 1.8 will be showing up sometime next week, maybe as soon as Sept. 12

EDIT: According to the fourum's newsfeed, Jeb has stated it to be the 8th (aka today) but I am doubhting that will be possible release date.

Additionally, Trailer for 1.8

Old, but somewhat relevant. Figured I'd look for it in case no one else has done it:

A clip from the Doctor Who episode 'Blink' interspliced with Enderman pictures. Thought it was appropriate.


Also, once 1.8 comes out, if it doesn't require a full rebuild, and new stuff only appears in newly generated chunks, or if the new stuff doesn't appear at all in old worlds, I'll create a new world for 1.8 stuff and make a rather large portal to it... probably in the town hall. If it does need a new rebuild... well, we're kinda out of luck then. However, mcMMO stats, Jobs stats and money will all carry over regardless. Inventory will not if it requires a rebuild.

If a rebuild is necessary, I think what I'll do is get the mail system working (You might have noticed on the MOTD, where it said 'You have 0 new mail' or something to that effect), and let people mail me in game about what they'd like. I am going to put a limit on things though... sorry Oni, no more free rainbow wool, also, no free diamonds or obsidian... unless you're planning a portal to the Nether, then I'm willing to supply that. However, for things like wool or other tedious (and not all that dangerous) to find materials, I think I'm going to set up a special shop to sell it. There's some SimpleShop commands that should make it so I don't get the money you spend, that should work. $100/64 blocks sounds reasonable, with Jobs $100 is pretty much pocket change. Dyes... I dunno, I find them fun to make, but if there's a demand for them, I'll do some special shops for them as well.

Regardless of what happens, I think I'm going to work on a small cottage somewhere, maybe on an ocean side cliff, or maybe in an old ruin. Nothing fancy... But if a Colosseum doesn't get made, I might have to take that into my own hands.
