Re: Touhou CYOA - Second edition

"Hmmm.. she's Koishi's sister. No doubt that eye has some similar ability that she did..." Byakuren thinks, opting to test the waters a bit. She fires a few barrages to see how Satori reacts. Her hunch is not wrong, the opponent quickly moves out the way, no bullet getting even near her. "As I expected.. she can detect my thoughts.." Satori's grin confirms the mage's suspicions about her abilities.

Switching to a deep meditative state, Byakuren empties her mind in an effort to make Satori lose her advantage. Now without her advantage to foresee the opponent's patterns, Satori is at a loss and suffers a bit of damage. The fancy-dressed girl shows that her ability is more than just surface thoughts detection, however. She evades Byakuren for a while, eventually switching to offense, surprising the mage with use of her own spell cards against her. Now the mage takes damage, evening the situation somehow. But Byakuren was intimately familiar with her own attacks, easily evading them once the initial surprise passed.

The two exchange beautiful barrages of attacks, Satori switching to other people's patterns once in a while. All of these Byakuren remembers facing at one time or the other. This results in her getting through their exchanges without damage, while Satori is slowly getting chiseled down. After recognizing that her abilities aren't of use, the mistress flies to the side a little and casts a quick glance through the audience. A sudden smirk appearing on her pretty features, Satori pulls out the big guns on Byakuren, firing a gargantuan laser beam at her. The mage manages to barely escape the overwhelming attack, getting grazed a bit by the beam. After the laser, more madness follows in it's wake. Icicles, butterflies, coins, amulets, everything imaginable is directed in Byakuren's direction in an effort to take her down.

Barely able to hold herself together among the chaos of things coming towards her, the mage decides to pull out a dirty move. "Just what are you doing over there Koishi? That is so.. dirty.." she thinks, in an attempt to distract Satori from her intense attack. This strategy is an astounding success, with Satori's attention vanishing completely upon her reading those thoughts. Once clear from the mess of projectiles, Byakuren fires her own lasers at the girl, dropping her with a direct hit. Seeing that the mistress of the palace was okay, he mage accepts her applause with a smile before exiting the arena.

After a while spent resting, Byakuren meets Shou again, confirming that the tiger youkai was indeed still running among the competitors. The group spent a little while discussing about who should they ask for help towards reaching their goals with the ship. A few names get tossed around the table, Byakuren putting each into consideration before being called back to fight once more.

Once again, the fates were giving Byakuren a hard time as another familiar face is there to meet her at the arena. As the announcement sounds across the fields, she goes forward to briefly exchange a few words with her opponent. "It just had to come to this eh? Well, let's make this a good one..." she says to the opponent. Bringing her scythe up to her shoulder, Komachi agrees. "I'm not holding back just because it's you. I'll show them how a shinigami fights." Exchanging a quick hug, both competitors retreat back to their proper starting positions to face off.

A. Offense

B. Defense

C. Something else?

Pfft, we all know what we want here, that red-head's mammaries.

C) Stare pervertedly at Komachi's magnificent bosom and take in the sight, of course, try to rip her clothes apart a bit so we can get a better look.

Re: Touhou CYOA - Second edition

Sigh... How about we try a strategy that's actually USEFUL, for once?

A

She'll have an obvious advantage in melee combat, so I'd suggest keeping our distance and blasting her until she drops. Yes, I do realize I'm not very creative here, but aggressive tactics have worked for me many times before and I am fairly certain they will work for me again.

By the way, wasn't Byakuren capable of using magic that enhanced her physical abilities? I think I saw her kicking some ass in a doujin once, and I'm sure someone mentioned this to me before.

I like the cut of your jib! Although I imagine Komachi might be offended if she wants to challenge us in earnest and we end up staring at her cleavage.

I seem to recall Komachi mentioning earlier in the thread that prolonged use of her scythe was tiring. So my vote is to go on the defensive! Let her wear herself out and then strike when she slips up!

C. Let her come close to attack us, using her scythe. When she's close, zip away and blast her with danmaku. Occasionally mix up our game by using our magic to enhance our own physical abilities, and bringing that strength to Komachi.

It'll be a gamble. But with some skill and luck, we'll pull through.

I'm with Hafnium I think. Though I'll add that Byakuren needs to be careful if she assumes simply keeping her distance guarantees safety. Komachi's unique trick is the manipulation of distance, after all. Vigilance must be maintained at all times, at all distances.

Re: Touhou CYOA - Second edition

Thinking up a quick strategy against her friend, Byakuren locks gazes with the gorgeous redhead before the starting signal sounds. Before she can properly even realize it, Komachi is already upon her, the shinigami's huge weapon swishing through the air as she aims for the mage's shoulderblade with the point of her wispy-bladed scythe. Quickly taking a lunge to the side, Byakuren manages to evade the worst of her attack, still getting a long nick to her arm as the passing blade ripped her sleeve in two. Komachi is quick to switch to flow of her strike as Byakuren leaps away, the scythe doing a completely unimaginable change of direction during the pass, coming after the mage horizontally now. Another cut appears on the inside of her thigh, after which the edge of the scythe tears the front of her long skirt open. "This is bad... she's far more skilled than I initially thought. Need to change tactics..."

Returning back to her roots, Byakuren plumbs the depths of her mind for the original reason she became a mage, to augment her own physique and keep her youthful appearance. Trying to fend of the shinigami's thirsty scythe with point-blank attacks, she starts to utter ancient words of power in an effort to bring herself near Komachi's level of physical ability. Getting a few more tears in her dress during the spellcasting process, the mage completes her incantation, gaining a huge burst of vitality after releasing the spell. The sudden surge of strenght enables her to beat the shinigami away with a few bare-handed strikes to the gut, a quickened barrage released straight afterwards adding further damage to her surprise comeback.

Panting heavily after the beatdown, Komachi is quick to applaud Byakuren for her skill. "So, you can be a formidable opponent in melee. Let us see how much skill you really possess.." the shinigami tells her, a quick hand gesture and some words igniting her blade. The blue ghost-flame quickly moves over the entirety of the scythe's form, bringing a mighty but draining weapon to Komachi's grip. Another super-speed step later, the red-head is bearing upon Byakuren again, the scythe coming down towards her right shoulder. In one of those life-slowing moments, Byakuren finds herself analyzing the shinigami's attack trajectory. Komachi's right arm was at the front on her grip against the haft of the weapon, her right side would be exposed if she evaded the diagonal sweep of the scythe. But, she was not completely sure where the shinigami's follow-up would go. Not sure how long she could keep Komachi at bay, Byakuren knew the outcome of this blow exchange could be a decisive one.

A. Evade to the left, against the strike

B. Evade to the right, along the strike

A) I like left, let's dodge just outside it's trajectory and then smack her right in the face.

Evade and close in immediately. Komachi has greater reach, but if we get close enough, her scythe will be more of a hindrance in close combat than an asset. Scythes are unwieldy weapons, and she won't be able to cut us effectively if we're close enough and not on the wrong side of the blade. Dodge, close in and strike before she has a chance to recover and start another attack. A couple of good old-fashioned knuckle sandwiches to the kisser should do the job, or at least leave her open for a point-blank danmaku finisher. Who said that magic blasts are ranged weapons?

If I've learned anything from fighting giant polar bears in Vindictus it's that you have to roll under and through the body-slam. I'm not sure how this applies to shinigami and scythes, though.

Either way, no guts, no glory! Going against the strike might throw Komachi off guard if the swing doesn't manage to hit and immediately incapacitate us!

Hmm. Yeah I'll support (A)

Though if this daring move doesn't pay off and we get decapitated, I can only try to imagine Komachi's less than celebratory victory expression. Life preserving arena or not.

I'll go with A as well; and I imagine something like this:
Only probably even worse.

Re: Touhou CYOA - Second edition

Making the decision in a split-second, Byakuren ducks forward to her left. It proves to be a succesful maneuver as Komachi's scythe sails over her, cutting only a few strands of gradient hair from the top of her head. With her newly-augmented vitality and speed helping her, the mage quickly moves to a flanking position next to the shinigami. The scythe flips around as Komachi attempts to bring it back towards the opponent, intent on stabbing her with the point of the blade. But Byakuren is wise to the move, moving herself againts the shinigami's body so her backwards strike doesn't even come near her. Before Komachi can move away, the mage grabs the extended arm by the wrist. Knowing that she got the shinigami in a tight spot, Byakuren extends her own arm over the redhead's shoulder while applying pressure to her wrist. "Got you, Koma-chan~" she says, turning Komachi's head so she could see the shinigami's face as she too leaned her head forward and took the opportunity to share a kiss with the beautiful girl. Byakuren knew of Komachi's weakness, and intended to capitalize upon it to the fullest possible extent.

"OHHH! This is quite something to behold! So daring even among the heat of battle!" Rinnosuke's commentary can be heard as Byakuren keeps herself lip-locked with the delicious Komachi. After a while, the shinigami's weapon drops from her grip, the emotional confusion and the pressure applied on her wrist proving too strong for the buxom redhead to resist. Still keeping her hand around Komachi's wrist, the mage continues kissing her as she moves her other hand away from her cheek, knowing she had the shinigami under her spell. Placing it over the scythegirl's chest, she starts to play with her breast through the robe. Komachi's face immidiately reddens once she gets touched, and soon enough the girl falls down to her knees, suddenly feeling quite weak when faced with the mage's sexual attack. Byakuren keeps on touching her until the shinigami submits to her. "Oooh.. such dirty moves..." are Komachi's words as the mage draws away from the long kiss they shared, right in front of everyone witnessing the events.

Walking out from the arena together with Komachi, Byakuren is oblivious to the surrounding people and the announcement congratulating her for her victory. She is completely focused on the gorgeous redhead walking there beside her. "Komachi... I'd like to meet you again later in the evening. Last time was a bit.. undignified.." Byakuren asks the defeated opponent, getting a gentle nod in reply. She wanted to get intimate with Komachi at least once, before other things took them back to their original missions. Saying goodbyes until the evening, the mage goes back to her group for rest and discussion. Once Shou returned, she confirmed that both Murasa and Shou were still among the competition, having bested their opponents after some struggles.

When she returns to the arena for her next bout, Byakuren is faced with another crow tengu. This one is more of a woman than the one she met during the past night, dressed in a white blouse and a black skirt, with a red tokin on her head. Hanging from her neck is a strange-looking device with a glassy "eye" in the middle. "Do all tengu have some sort of artifact with them...?" the mage ponders as Rinnosuke identifies the opponent as Aya Shameimaru, a reporter for the Bunbunmaru News. Wondering what that was all about, Byakuren readies herself for this new enemy.

A. Offensive strategy

B. Conservative strategy

C. Something else?

C) Clothes off, give that pervy Tengu something to distract herself with while we "pose" up a strong barrage.

Normally, I'd really like to recommend blasting her, but Aya is too freaking fast. Our best chance would be outlasting her, or distracting her and then blasting. Just keep it cool, don't waste your energy on big shots unless you're certain that they'll connect. Oh, and keep in mind she can manipulate winds.
