lol at unlocks making you better.
Seriously though, most unlocks are sidegrades. The only real upgrades are usually melee weapons, which aren't that big of a deal. Don't freak out about not having unlocks, they just provide new playstyles.
EDIT: unless you meant you wouldn't be as good seeing as how you haven't played the game at all, in which case, you'd be completely correct

In all seriousness, the only class I'm really good at is the Pyro, and it doesn't take a lot to be good with the Pyro. "Oh look, there's a bunch of peoplez, herp derp derp I flame you now! I look I can has dead but wait! I scored a load of assist kills!" That's pretty much how I play the Pyro. However I do sometimes lie in wait to ambush people and I do occasionally team up with a Medic to go on a flaming spree. Though normally I don't last too long until I get killed. However, instead of ragequitting I rageswitch to the Heavy. Got revenge on three people dominating me like that.
All in all I mainly play just to have a bit of fun for a few hours so I don't care all that much about winning or losing. And I've only got a handful of unlockables, the only one I really use is the Spy's Cloak and Dagger. Speaking of, Burr and I was trolling an Engie a while back by hiding at the second capture point and destroying his constructions. He had no clue where we were. People who use the Razorback are crybaby pussies afraid of dying and Bonk! Atomic Punch isn't all that good in the long run because it means you're one weapon down.

I'm just glad I can look at the friends list of people to figure out if I might know the person adding me because they don't go by a name I recognize.
I know it's because of one reason or another, but what Steam needs to let you do is add a little note to go along with the request, so you can go 'Hey, this is so-and-so from blah-blah-blah'.
Can't tell the difference between 'Sand' and 'Gray', 'Ice' looks like shit, and 'Obsidian'... well, 'Obsidian' may be decent, but it's fucking depressing as hell to me.
