Re: A rant about gaming.
Heh. Weird thing is, I actually agree with you and that video. Mostly. I guess I'm just not very good at putting my thoughts down on paper. I guess I think there are two types of good games - those with challenge, that you just play for fun, and those that you play to sort of get into an interactive book.
FYI, I love Touhou, I've won a couple Smash Bros tournaments, Mario Kart, and am a die-hard LoZ fan. My introduction to my obsession with games came from Pokemon.
I didn't like AW though. Ever play Fire Emblem? It's like AW, except with a compelling story and wonderful characters. This, to me, makes Fire Emblem = AW^3.
Storyline isn't something that devs shouldn't worry about, even to put all their focus on making it fun. Many of the RPG gamers out there like the experience of playing through a book-like story, and in some cases, choosing your own path in the story (a la Bioware's games, KotOR, that martial arts one set in ancient China whose name I can't remember, etc). Because some people have fun that way, by interacting with the story.
On the other hand, you could say that this viewpoint justifies making games like Halo 13 and CoD over nine fucking thousand because some gamers have "fun" staring at all the pretty graphics. My response to that is: Fuck you graphic whores. *flips the bird*
Edit: As a side note, I love how he draws the attention to the retardedness of the accent he speaks in.
