Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The citizens would be no help as most were far to panicked to offer anything other than an insult or worse. The Sargent however quickly answered Rikke's questions as best as he could before another fight took him away from her.

What she got was this was the first time anything like this had happened. Sure they would get the occasional mage causing trouble but nothing like this. Thankfully no one was at the lighthouse the moment it blew.

Watching the Sargent depart with what information he could share left Rikke wondering. If this was the first time then surely more would follow. Looking in the vague direction of where she saw the two strangers fall to Rikke could follow. No doubt the screaming and running people would show her the way. Or she could opt for a more discreet method.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The rogue hardly took the terrified citizens panicked words to heart, as she would indeed seem to have to learn more from the sergeant. It was unclear if the man noticed that the girl definedly wasn't local, but it was likely that he just did not have the luxury of splitting much of his attention anywhere else beyond what was happening!

Still as Rikke looked to the guards rush off, she'd turn to the street that the civilians seemed to running from and dash onwards against the flow! Dashing, weaving and dodging in between the scared people the heroine would look to find the source or epicenter through them!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Indeed the streets had a few panicked people still running to the docks some had even backed small carts. Following the trail of them Rikke found her first sign. In the center of a street lay a massive crater. A few guards looked at in as well as a few men in robes. The crater itself was less explosion more liquefied and melted rock that had cooled rapidly forming a smooth sculpture like display as if a rain drop had hit a pool of water. Still there had to be more. Moving a little further on Rikke found the result of the second explosion. Here a few more people stood muttering at the ruins of a large house. The wall facing the street had a human sized hole in it and was the only part still standing. Here the crowd seemed more subdued and much larger with only a few guards posted to keep the people away from the still smoldering ruin.

Rikke rushed against the ever-present wave of terrified citizens, dodging weaving inbetween them as finally she'd reach what seemed to either be the most recent or the most direct area of attack. Unfortunately, Rikke had seen just how devastating potent fire magic was... and by the looks of the perfectly 'carved' stone the flying duo were certainly fearsome.

Still if the rogue was going to learn anything about the attacks origin, she'd need to investigate further! No doubt the centerpiece of the attack had to have been a large house, one that now just smoldered and stood as a barren hint of what taken place here barely moments ago...

"Whose house was this?" the rogue approached one of the muttering civilians, who seemed quite done running. Even if the first pair wouldn't share much, surely someone could tell her more!

If anything from her trip here, if the rogue had to guess.... the duo either came from this building or focused it down specfically.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

An older woman was able to answer Rikke after a few attempts. "Oh that used to be a brothel when this was a seeder part of town. But its been long abandoned. Probably only mice and rats that lived in there now. Well... probably not so much anymore. Still we where lucky those youngsters only fought in there the rest of the houses are packed full.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke raised an eyebrow at the words and approached the old woman closer "Youngsters? You mean the two flyers?" the girl blinked and hoped for more answers. Seemed whatever happened, had indeed taken place here to begin with... An abbandoned brothel. Somehow from the rogues experience, brothels were rarely ever fully abbandoned, especially in what seemd a thriving trade dock!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Flying no dear they where on foot Im sure of it. The young miss used her magic to blast the young swords men into the brothel before bringing fourth a pillar of fire to ruin the place. After that I didn't see where she went. Its like she upped and vanished.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Who were the ones fighting?" Rikke inquired further, as it seemed the conflict was over all that was left one was to rely on the witnesses all around. Still if the old woman was right, seemed the whole 'attack' had been little else, but a clash between two immensely powerful fighters! Had Rikke felt this fire mages aura back then on the boat?

Then again, the girl was certain she saw two figures flying. No doubt there was more to this battle than most saw, but the rogue would choose to start with the simplest details - just who were the two combatants and what was their relation, to each other and to the city!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"I'm not sure deary. We get all sorts here in the city. Thanks to the shrine of gods. Scholars, peasants, preachers, and teachers. All manner of pilgrim. Its what keeps our town running."

Sadly it seemed the woman had only witnessed the attack but as Rikke watched the crowd she could feel a presence nearby an echo of the power she had felt from the boat. Looking about her eyes saw one very red fox eye her briefly before running off.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikkes spirit clearly dimmed at the news... unfortunate seemed the old woman just saw the fight and did not know its circumstances or even the fighters "T-thank you anyway." the rogue beamed her a kind smile and leaned out to cross her hands and scan the crowd. Surely someone knew something... raggedy trader, no. Exotic dancer, no...

The girls eyes kept scanning the crowd in a slow manner as she'd guide them over a critter? Rikke blinked as she met the foxes eyes just as in turn it clearly met hers or at the very least seemed to be clearly looking at her. The fox was certainly pretty, from its bushy tail to elegant red fur...

It was then Rikkes eyes widened, as the fox seemed to turn to run as if realising the rogue noted it as well! Why was the fox bright red?! Not mention this aura... she felt it before! "Hey! Wait!" the girl wasted little time to rush in pursuit of the curious critter!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

At the shout the fox turned tail and dashed off leaving Rikke to chase after it drawing a few curious looks from the crowd. At first Rikke kept good speed chasing the fox the streets near the incident having long sense cleared. Still as the fox dashed threw ally's and side roads more and more obstacles appeared to hind her chase. Fast as she was the four legged critter was faster. Turning a corner however dropped Rikke right into a busy market area full of carts and people. Trade good lay boxed and stacked in their crates and barrels of various foodstuff lay in neat stacks. A hint of Red tail swished under a cart and a disgruntled trader cursing hinted to Rikke that the fox was trying to loose her in the street.

Starting out fox a fox!
Spot vs stealth checks to catch the fox. Four successes = victory!
Rikke may try to use the environment to help her if she is clever!

First challenge the meat merchant!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikkes eyes widened as it seemed the fox went to a commercial street! Come hell or high water, seemed some merchants weren't going to close their shops! Still as the red tail dashed to the street, Rikke knew she could take her chance and run down the busy street in pursuit... or...

The heroine picked up speed as she'd suddenly use one of the chests as a leaping stone and run along them! The height giving her vantage point and freedom from the obstacles below... albeit the route would be trickier, the rogues agility would hopefully let her make her own path!

Hopefully later on, her charm would calm the traders whose crates she ran over as well!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Dashing up onto the boxes Rikke was able to keep the fox in sight preventing the little rascal from slipping from view. Of course her box run would end as the next set she needed where far to far way to make in a jump which would leave her with out sight of the scoundrel. Still as the inevitable end would come Rikke saw the fox make its way to a cooper's stall. Here he began to dash in-between barrels. The coopers shop had a few branching paths one to a side street and another which seemed to lead further down the market near a fruit vendor and a fish vendor.

Round 1
Rikke success 8 vs 3

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Blindly guessing the fox's intent would surely make her lose it entirely, thus the rogue paused and kept her eyes sharp in either direction. If it ran to the street, the fox would be simple enough to spot... in the other case no doubt the people would notice and look down, even if the rogue missed it!

[Wait and see where it goes, dont guess.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rolls
Rikke perception 9 vs 8 success

She almost missed it but waiting proved to be the beast answers as the light footed fox dashed from the cooper to the fruit vendor. Dashing after as the previous vendor caught up to her to yell at her leaving the semi portly man disgusted and out of breath. Though as she moved it was clear why the fox chose this path for something small and nimble he could easily make his way threw where his larger pursure would have trouble with the large crowd. Of course there where pinpoints of islands from the crowd, carts, barrels, and even a set of crates. The crates where the highest of the three but looked flimsy, the cart was next in height but had wheels.

Rikke 2 victorys

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke kept her eyes sharp looking for any details, before she'd suddenly hear angry grunts and yells from behind her?! Turning back seemed all the vendors whose crates the girl used were in semi-chase after her?! "S-sorry..." the girl beamed an innocent smile, yet she was both saved and lucked by another cry of "HEY!" from near the fruit vendors as one of the vendors seemed to look down and trail his gaze at something along the ground!

BINGO! Before either the vendors caught up or her foxy pray escaped, the rogue continued her chase! With the crates looking unsteady, the rogue would have to move along the ground with only on occasion using the carts to gain a vantage point!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As the chase continued Rikke found herself loosing sight of the red tail quite quickly. Frowning she dashed to cart and thankfully spotted her bushy tailed escapee making a turn down a side street. Dash of the cart which chunked behind her Rikke was off ignoring the curses of the merchants. Rounding the corner Rikke was confronted with lines of cloths draped over the street on lines with wash woman talking and gabbing. The cobble was slick and the clothes blocked line of sight. This little guy knew what he was doing.

Rikke 3 victories

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The rogue smiled as indeed the thrill of the chase made her ignore most of everyone else! Still with the new challenge, Rikke smiled slyly and actually picked up speed before going into a slide right beneath the hanging clothes!

Perhaps her sudden low catch-up would even give her a chance to nab the rascally red fox to boot! Yet if not, the rogue wouldn't waste her speed and once cleared of the chattering ladies and their hanging laundry she'd get back into a run!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rolls
Fox 5
Rikke 4

Building up speed Rikke used the slick stones to slide threw the laundry. Or at least that was her plan. Mid slide under a rather gaudy dress Rikke hit a dry spot which sent her tumbling into a rather large sheet. There was a snap as the whole line came down trapping Rikke in a maze of cloths and left to the mercy of the wash woman who where now very upset. Untangling herself Rikke looked about for the fox only to find him lost. However the very upset wash woman would not let her go until she helped them fix the mess she had made. After another hour of washing and fixing the line Rikke looked about the street. The fox was no doubt long gone but at least she was near a pleasant park to rest and think.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke slid perfectly and... hit a coarse patch of ground?! "Eh?!" her slide broken and forcing her on her feet, the same momentum that was to carry her onwards was going full force to the hanging laundry! "Wuah-wuah-WUAAAH~!"

With a crash and a trashcan lid rolling off, the rogue groaned as she found herself covered in the laundry and sitting on the ground... only for the fox to seemingly pause and chitter a giggling laughter, before scurrying off.

Rikke may have considered continueing her chase, yet two shadows loomed over her as angry aged housewives (a terror onto its own!) looked to her angrily and tapped their forearms, spurring a sheepish and innocent smile from the rogue.

It would be some time later, a decent amount of laundry rehanged and a whole lot of angry stories about youngsters and their recklessness as well as disrespect that finally Rikke was left alone...

The girl looked to where the fox had last bid its 'farewell' and sighed... she was so close! Still no point to worry about it now, afterall she had to head to port and see if Shala and the others needed the signal. The town seemed all clear.
