Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

After her scolding Rikke looked to the small park where the fox had made good its escape. Still as she looked to the rather impressive vegetation that seemed to threaten to over take the small stone wall that confined it her thoughts drifted to the Glory. Surely if she wanted to avoid another scolding she should report the all clear.

Heading back the streets where much calmer no cries of distress echoed as the townsfolk made their way back home. Rikke herself found the streets quickly darkening with only a few older men out lighting the lamps to keep the streets lit. As she rounded one corner however her neck hairs stood on end. A sense of dread seemed to well inside her and the winded picked up with Yuna's faint voice. "Run!" Of course Rikke hardly ever listened to voices and turned to where she felt the dread. In an ally way stood the man that was flying threw the air earlier. His wicked curved blade dripping with fresh blood. At his feet lay a guardsmen of the watch body absolutely diced and sliced open. As Rikke watched the massive burns he had suffered seemed to heal and close as the blood of his victim seemed to sink inside him. Taking a step forward he stared at Rikke his eyes gleaming with bloodlust his mouth agape and drool running from his mouth.

Rikke smiled casually as she made her way down along the town, with the panic settled its charm could once again shine as the colorful streets seemed to turn far more silent and serene. Infact, this was the first town the girl was in that used such vibrant and bright colors for its housing! From bright yellow to green and even red or blue!

Yet as she examined every little curious detail, turning a corner the girl froze mid-step! Rikkes eyes widening as the sudden gruesome sight came into view! Even if she had seen it from a distance, the figure was unmistakeable as one of the combatants stood down one of the alleyways! Infact, if Rikke had any doubts the clear severe burns throughout the entitys body would clearly show it was the target of the fiery spellcasts!

Rikke quickly drew her blade, yet as she looked on... she couldn't speak or move! Right before her eyes she saw the figure loom over an unfortunate guard and streams of blood seemed to float upwards from the body and to the injured flesh of the entity! As if defying gravity, the blood seemed to seep from the victim to the creature and mend its wounds no less... at a disturbingly rapid speed!

Unfortunately, as the rogue looked on frozen in place, the creature turned to her! Whatever features it had seemed to almost be masked by shadows, which revealed only its bloodlusting red eyes and an agape mouth with dirty sharp white teeth, drooling a mixture of blood and saliva!

Goosebumps rushed up the girls body as she'd pause but a moment later and without another word spoken, quickly turned and dashed away keen to break line of sight first and foremost!!! She'd not be ready to face such a creature! Much less since she hardly even knew what it was!

Rikke dashed away fast the winding seemingly aiding her steps a primal fear having taken hold. She didn't stop until she reached the dock where a a long boat sat lantern seemingly waiting for her. Soda sat calm a simple line jutting off the dock and a bucket of fish sitting next to him. Turning her head Rikke found no sign of pursuit and in fact the wind seemed to blow against her slightly cooling the slight sweat she had worked up in her run. Still the image of the blood-crazed monster filled her mind. Clearly dark horrors awaited in this town or at least made partial residents. No doubt she could tell the others and they could slip away to the next port and away.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The threat while indeed quite morbid, as far as Rikke knew did not make the whole area closed off. Especially considering the seemingly lucrative markets here... yet the crew had to learn what the rogue encountered and seen thus far!

"S-Soda..." Rikke spoke up, pausing to catch her breath as she had indeed absolutely flown through the empty streets! Still after a breather she'd take a deep breath and sigh "Signal the all clear, the attack had just been a scuffle between two dangerous mages." she'd smile to him.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Waving as she spoke Soda smiled and nodded. Together fresh fish in had the duo rowed back to the Glory. Upon arrival she was met with the very hopeful gazes of the crew and the girls from the island. Sadly Red and Shala escorted her away before she could share to much.

Once inside the cabin Rikke was able to tell what she saw to the others. For a long while Red was silent and Shala looked off threw a window at the town. "Okay we can send small parties ashore to get supplies and to blow off steam. Shala I want you to head to the bars and see if you can replace our losses. After all you know they type we are looking for. Rikke its up to you to tell the girls what they might face." If Rikke protested Shala would shush her. "The girls from the island only listen to us out of respect for you. Ive been wary to tell you this but they seem.. far too devoted to you Rikke. Its best you see for yourself.

Heading off after discussing some more topics Rikke found the girls eagerly awaiting her return and nearly flocking to her awaiting news. Each had their limited baggage ready to go and one surprisingly hefty sack that they did not come aboard with.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Overly devoted?" Rikke blinked at the odd wording, yet no doubt she'd learn more later on as Shala rushed her off to meet them "Alright, alright... I'll tell them." infact, the rogue hardly really gave much thought what the magic girls will do once off the island... much less once Rikke herself left the boat as well!

"Hey~" Rikke knocked on the door and entered with a smile "So~ I've got good news... and bad news." the heroine smiled, as she'd get comfy "The good news is that the town isn't under assault and the whole incident was just a one-off battle... I think."

She'd look around "The... bad news is that... there's some unknown dark entity that prowls inside the town and literally drains its victims of blood." Rikke kept a superbly sheepish grin, as a cold sweat-bead rolled down her face. The bad news certainly was more than a little grim!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The girls blinked a moment at the news the room silent. "Umm Rikke... do you think... maybe you could find us a place to stay in town. We are not afraid of some silly monster. After all we've been stuck inside a spirit realm full of them for years." One of the others spoke up soon after. "Yeah we can defend ourselves if we need to." They all seemed in favor of leaving the boat despite what dangers lay in wait in the town. Perhaps it was the long captivity on Glory edging them on or the real sense of freedom that the town offered. Still as Rikke left the girls she did her mention of finding a good spot for the shrine. If that didn't catch her ear or interest Rikke would soon have the night pass and the dawn break over the deck once more. On this morning two boats would head out one caring the first me for shore leave while the other was for supplies.

The rogue could certainly related to the girls, as she'd smile "Alright, but you girls better stay out of trouble." she'd lean forward with her hands on her hips "In a way, I'm still responsible for you." with that the rogue would do a head count as well as check for requests and price range. Surely the stay would be temporary, but finding room for so many... could prove tricky.

Either way, seemed the rogue had a new task to take care of... which meant, she needed to be on that boat along with the first mate!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The girls quickly talked amongest themselves before handing over a slight large pouch of coin. There only must haves was a large yard for a garden and for it to be slightly secluded. It seemed they planned to stay for awhile at least. Hefty the coin bag Rikke had to wonder where they had gotten it all.

The night passed uneventfully and Rikke was up bright and early as the two shore parties got together. As she waited for things to get ready Bella approached Rikke and tugged on her arm. "Hey be careful okay there is more to whats going on in this place than what we can see." If pressed she would just mention it was a feeling. Soon enough however the boats departed and like a conquering hero Rikke rode the bow to the dock and was the first one off.

She found the streets much more calm this time around and quick was able to get a move on and head deeper. The market was lively and the crowds dense its like the attacks of yesterday never happened.

Once more on land, Rikke took a deep breath and smiled widely "Alright! When are you guys leaving back to the ship?" it was best to know just how small or large time-span the girl would have, before she set out exploring. Still once her retreating route was planned out... it was time to explore the town proper!

With the bright sun bathing the sea-side town, its charm could bloom to full glory! The brightly colored houses and sandy looking, yellow stone or the equal streets made the city appear almost like a sort of picture! One not subtly aided by quite exotic looking flora!

Rikke had yet to learn where on the map she even was right now! Somehow sailing on the sea, the girl never captured the big picture... still with a smiling casual smile, she'd step forward and slip into the varied crowd of the yet un-named port.

Her first goal, the local guide or the mayors home! What better place to find out about potential lands on sale or to get a proper look where the town was... as well as what was its name!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

With out the chaos of yesterday Rikke was quickly able to find a large stone guide post with a town map carved in its surface. The name of the city was Jermiah's Landing. Looking at the map on the guide post she found they city hall was not to far from where she was. Taking the path and having till sundown to accomplish her mission the rogue could of course divert to other things. There was the Market she ran threw yesterday as well as the huge park that lay nestled in the town. Of course she could just explore everything.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke paused as she'd place a single finger on her lips in thought... perhaps going to the market for some new clothes would certainly be a wonderful idea! Yet as the girls eyes glanced down the road towards it, even from here she could see... a fair number of familiar angry looking vendors!

A single cold bead of sweat rolled down the girls face as she'd smile sheepishly reconsidering the idea... Perhaps it was a little too soon considering her escapades there earlier.

The rogue would choose to first head to Mayors office afteral. It was best to resolve her current duties and explore after, who knows, the girl just might learn something interesting about the town there as well!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Foregoing the market for now or perhaps all together Rikke made her way to the mayor's house. Expecting to find a mansion or private villa she instead found a stately looking domed building flanked on either side by smaller squat structures. Large stone stairs lead up to a columned porch that lead to a huge pair of oaken doors. Inside she found a marbled floor and a small desk with a older woman greeting visitors. Currently there was a long line including some of the angry merchants from yesterday though they had yet to spot the rogue. Smaller rooms with heavy doors lay to either side the closest listed its name as port authority on her left and Lands department to her right. Twin stair cases lead up to the second floor.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

This place was nothing like what the rogue expected! As what the girl expected to be a small cute building akin to most of the town, revealed to be quite the regal building!

Still upon entry, she'd instantly note the huge line and winced at the very thought just standing and waiting there. Surely there was some way to bypass it... instead for now she'd look around more as three other paths seemed to stand out - Port Authority, Lands Department and a stairway upstairs.

Lands Department! That sounded right for any information about local brokered or sold areas! The rogue would head there as she'd pass along the line overhearing a most curious conversation between two disgruntled looking individuals "And then she just starts running on top of me silk boxes! Toppled most the time pile she did!" "Really? Who was it?" "I dunno, never seen her aboot." "Wait, you mean the Market Acrobat! The one from yesterday? You get a look at her, people say she's a beaut. Huge tittays too---" "I'm tellin' ya aboot me dirtied..!"

Never before had Rikke turned on her stealth as much as she did then, as the girl slipped off as a tiny mouse. Seemed the line contained some of the merchants whose wares the girl used as inglorious stepstones! Still she knew where to go next, the Lands Department!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Heading in she opened the surprisingly heavy door to find a balding wrinkled man sitting behind a tall desk that hid is body from view. Comically over-sized glasses with thick lenses. In a soft voice he greeted her and asked about her inquire. Stating her business the man looked down and shuffled some papers around and looked them over. "The only spot that has a current building is just outside of town. An old orchard that went under some time ago. Its purchase price is 500 denari. Looking at the bag Rikke was surprised to see several large gems in with the coins. Easily the girls had enough to by the land twice over and still by her a house if they wanted. Even if their money was foreign it was still about the same size.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

It sounded perfect! "Oh~ That sounds perfect." she'd look over the documents "It's... not built on some ancestral ground or haunted is it..." the girl looked to the man with a half-joking smile. Seemed every time the rogue would ever enter an abbandoned orchard or the like... there would either be a demon cult residing inside or some abnormal ghosts!

Still with the man assurance "Alright, sign me up as a potential buyer. I'll have my girls take a look at it first, but if it fits them we'll have a deal." the rogue beamed the man a cheery smile.

She'd not haggle with the man now... perhaps when she'll come to make the final delivery, the girl could attempt her charms for a small discount to boot!

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

At the question of haunting or sacred the ground the men would raise one eyebrow up in a questioningly manner only for the rogue to quickly retreat back and tell him she would consider it. Leaving the Lands department her thoughts drifted to her hair wishing to have the crazy orange back. Wistfully she pulled at a strand of her orange hair. Still as she left the building she had other things to do. She wasn't due back for some time and could explore at her leisure.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Alright! With her directions to the house known, the rogue quickly checked her mental to-do list... She still needed to find out more about the Mysterious Red fox, as well as the fiend! Check for some new armor designs in the market and most importantly... dye her hair!

Even if the girls natural auburn color was certainly nice, she just didn't feel right without her dark orange hair! With a firm nod and smile, she'd head onwards and attempt to find a barber or hairdresser that could help her out. Though not doubt in her search the girl would pass a few mirrors... that could hint at a most peculiar seemingly recent or unnoticed change.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

As Rikke left the government building a young girl gasped at her in amazement. "Mommie Mommie that girls hair just changed color!" Looking to Rikke the woman cocked her head and began to scold her child for telling stories. Having stopped herself Rikke caught her own reflection a standing pool of water on the street. Indeed her flowing auburn locks had changed to a bright orange.

Still as she marveled at the change she could hear the market din begin to grow behind her. It seemed the shopping was getting well on the way. Of course she was likely to find only substandard armor on a street stall. The real treasure would have to be in a permanent shop. Setting off for one she quickly found a small deadend street that had the more dirty business at hand. Looking up at the sign made it clear. Black street. Everything down this road was dingy and grey a complete opposite of the colorful town. Still the smell of tanning leather and the ting ting of the smiths hammer rang down this road.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke waved to the girl with a smile, though her words did ring a tad bit odd... Her hair changed colors? Yet much to the rogues surprise from the hints at the puddle to the clear view on one of the shop windows she could clearly see her hair dyed orange?! "EH?!" Rikke leaned forward towards the window, turning her head one way, then another up to just taking her locks in hand and looking over them.

There was no question about it, somehow the girl had been dyed perfectly! Rikke blinked curiously at the strange event and looked around, as if to check for any culprits to the trick... yet noone suspicious was around. It seemed as if the girl willed the shift of color herself!

...not that she minded! Beaming a smile Rikke quickly fixed her hair as best as she could and delayed the trip to barber for now. Right, her next to do objectives were gather information, get the girls... and check for any new armor!

Though with the hussle and bussle of the market nearby, somehow the later sounded the most attractive for now. Smiling to herself, the rogue would head to the market and look around... though it quickly grew apparent if she wanted armor styled HER way and not some sort of huge chunk of leather, she'd need a specialist.

Following her intuition, signs and murmurs soon enough the rogue found where she just might find a leatherworker that fit her needs! Even if they'd score little to no points in choice of location, still the hints were unmistakeable and Rikke had to check it out!

Following her instincts, the rogue would continued onwards and check this "Black street" for any such wares that she sought.
