Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The door creaked open its rusty salt corroded iron hinges insuring that everyone was drawn to the new arrival as it cried out in metallic agony that grated the teeth and sent shivers down anyone's spine. It took a moment before Rikke's eyes adjusted to the perpetual gloom of the inn making her vulnerable for a few moments as she was easily highlighted by the bright sunlight outside. Still stepping in the door creaked shut ending the blinding radiance.

Any hope Rikke had of a warm welcome was quickly dashed as the few obviously seedy fellows quickly turned away not even giving her another thought. Her first glance revealed no sign of Milkeye but it did give her a clear indication of what type of place she wanted into. A nearby table sat empty spilled ale and dried blood staining its surface. In the fare corner near the fireplace sat a group of men fiddling with cards, playing something under the feeble gas light. Near the bar sat a few stools occupied by the working girls one currently engaged at a table servicing her customer the tel tale slurps hinting at her current task. A husky barkeep stood at his counter wiping a glass with a surprisingly clean rag. Though it was offset by the obvious red scare across his eye that seemed angry and red.

'Lovely place' Rikke thought to herself sarcastically, a clear rush of 'oh god where did I just walk into' running across her body... though it was a rush she'd need to disregard.

From the grimmy tables to the stains the rogue did not ever want to even guess, to even echos of someone hopefully--- Rikke couldn't even think the alternative of the tell-tale signs source! Her bright colours, beaming aura and most eyecatching figure, as well as clothing stood out in the bar far too much for the girls liking... Thankfully she wasn't planning on staying.

Stepping through the bar with fair confidence the girl sat down near the bar on of the very rickety and seemingly rat-munched stools, before beaming the imposing barkeep a cute smile "I'm looking for someone."

Bold as brass and just as shiny Rikke moved up and sat on the decrepit stool. Much to her dismay she could feel that it was sticky as it squished disgustingly. The barkeep undeterred looked up at Rikke threw one good eye. "That question usually ends in a stabbing miss. I reckon you should probably walk on out before that happens." One of the tavern girls laughed a little before turning her attention to one of them men at the tables trying to solicit a bit of business with a wave of a finger.

Nearby a small clink of coin could be heard as a younger woman moved back to sit at the bar. She was wiping the corner of her mouth with a rag before turning to face Rikke her lipstick smeared. "I don't know boss she might get rapped rather than stabbed." The older woman seemingly turned down grunted a reply. "Probably both and in to particular order."

Rikke snickered and glanced between the staff, each one as charming as the last... "I appreciate the concern, but this isn't my first hunt. Recently came into town, so~ thought I'd help it out... you know, save the poor goats." she'd add in a clearly joking manner. Still if anything Rikke still showed clear confidence even with the doubts cast on her, hopefully it was enough of a bluff to get her through the bunches inspection.

"I hear he visits around here. Was hoping to meet him in person." the rogue looked between them sharply.

"Oh your after the goat fucker." This brought a laugh from several of the men. "Lucky for you he's burned his bridges here. The barkeep slide Rikke a clean glass with what smelled like a weak alcohol. "Its on the house. Everyone should get a free drink before a fight." The younger woman leaned back a small mirror in her hand as she fixed her makeup. "Aye he dose not frequent this place anymore but we get the occasional tale from a customer from time to time. Last we heard he was dealing with some shady swordsman. Apparently he pays well as he tried to buy back his favor with us." If your really looking for him miss try noble street. Its where all the up and coming merchant live putting on airs and pretending to be better than your common stall keeper.

Seemed having a common enemy quickly marked the rogue as one of the 'peculiar' bars own! The shift in atmosphere all too clear to feel as the initial laughter echo'ed out... A palpable sense of relief quickly running through the rogues body.

Well... it would likely be incredibly rude to refuse the free drink, as the rogue smiled sheepishly, before downing it... likely regretting downing the liquid that would likely best be described as 'paint thinner'. A 'Gah!' and gasp for air later, Rikke would further find out more about what her mark was doing lately.

"The Nobles street. Gotcha. Overheard any names I should keep an eye out for?" she'd look to the group with a smile and once given the information the girl would thank the inn and after the surprisingly pleasant visit headed off to find where the nobles lived in this town.

It seemed the Salty Spice in crew had little to do with anyone but their own, but they did offer some advice letting her know that while Milkeye seemed blind in his one eye he really wasn't and that apparently the swordsman he is employed by is a real beast of a man. Still with out anything further Rikke bade the tavern fairwell and got no reply in return besides an offer for a quick tumble in the hay by one of the patrons.

Finding the noble street was easy the smell of people with too much money wafted down the street. Woman in elaborate dresses that seemed far to impractical for daily life filled the streets escorted by men who seemed to ill at ease in their overly stiff suits. Large Mansions flanked the road each one seemingly built to outdo its neighbors. Wrought iron fencing blocked off feeble looking front flower gardens establishing territorial plots of land. Woman eyed her with either jealously or disgust and men mostly with lust. Her attire quickly marked her out in this part of town as someone who didn't belong.

Somehow Rikke hated this place even more than the dirty, crusty and down-under inn! From the snobbish conversations the girl could overhear to the majority of people having a strange fixation of raising their noses to the air, and even to the air of hypocrisy and superiority utterly drenching the whole street!... goodness, the creepy patron company didn't seem as bad anymore, atleast they had a uncomfortable honesty about them.

Still the girl would have to swallow her dislikes as she'd head along the road to look for anything that could aid her. She had no contacts here and not even a name, just a hint of dark meetings between a local Swordsman and her mark... In other words, she needed to spot someone who kept a sword for its use instead of as an adornment or her target himself!

Even though Rikke was far from luxuriously dressed, it seemed the girls natural beauty and luscious appearance very quickly drew the eyes of the locals, each gaze quickly looking over the girl and bearing a far different message. Though for now, Rikke paid little heed on the eyes on her as she'd be focused on her task 'Swordsman... Swordsman...'

While Rikke stood out another fellow stood out even more. Nearby peaking around a corner was a bright red fox looking right at Rikke. Once the small critter was sure Rikke had seen him it dashed of down a alleyway.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke continued down the street, by now atleast a good dozen of eyes upon her. Some subtly looking over the girl with disdain, others with curiousity... though a few of the gazes beared an unmistakeable lust about them! Yet no matter where she looked, the girl could hardly find clear hints of illicit activities... nor did she really expect any of the houses to bear a huge sign of 'Shady Swordsman'... At this rate she'll need to ask around these snobbish locals. The very thought running despair through the girls body as he experience with such people oftentimes revealed how 'helpful' they can be to those beneath them.

Sighing soulfully Rikke paused as she felt... a far different pair of eyes upon her? Quickly looking around the girl scanned her the few figures around, most of whom seemed to be the nobles busy with themselves, before a peculiar fluffy tail caught the girls gaze... A red fox was sitting near one of the alleyways looking to the girl in silence, a red fox that seemed... very familiar?...!!! "You!" Rikkes eyes quickly widened as on cue the fox began to rush away!

Wasting absolutely no time, the girl once again gave chase rushing after the magical critter! 'Not this time!'

Like a flash the red critter was off, and no sooner did it move did Rikke take off. Rounding the corner Rikke could spot the bright fox in the rather drab backdrop of the noble street. This time Rikke easily kept pace with the critter only falling back when it managed to sneak under a wagon or skirt of a noble woman. What was clear was the critter was Leading Rikke away from the Noble street and her quarry.

Rikke would return to the street whenever she wished, but if the fox got away again... she might not get another chance to solve the curious critters secret!

The rogue hardly even paused, as she kept her pace up! "Make way!" she'd call out, jumping onto or even over any obstacles that crossed her path! This time she'd not goof her chase!

Thankfully the critter kept Rikke out of trouble for the most part. No vaulting over barrels or surfing down carts. She did get a couple of gasps as she brushed or bumped into over stuff nobles. Still their disgruntled comments fell on deaf ears. Like a hound on a fox hunt Rikke chased the fluffy tailed critter. Rounding a corner of what seemed a modest street Rikke lost sight of the fox ever so briefly. Speeding up she rounded the corner as well only to bump into a rather attractive robed figure holding the panting animal. "Good job young one. Off you go to your home the night comes quickly and he starts hunting." Setting the fox down the woman turned her attention to Rikke. Only then did she notice it was the mage from the fight yesterday.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke kept her chase going through the streets alleys and up to... watching the little fox jump into some strangers grasp? The rogue stopped herself and just as tired as the fox looked on to the exhange, before she was left alone with its master.... a figure that seemed both a stranger, yet familiar at the same time.

"S-So... he's yours?" Rikke asked curiously, before smiling to the stranger "Oh... I thought..." the rogue was almost certain the fox was some sort of shapeshifter, yet it seemed the critter while potentially magical was not what she expected.

Yet a second glance at the stranger quickly widened the girls eyes subtly "Wait... you're the mage. The girl I saw flying through the air, during the battle yesterday."

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

She smiled and moved to sit on a nearby by wooden bench. Motioning for Rikke to take a seat. Brushing her purple locks aside Rikke finally got to see the girls blue eyes and pale skin. "I wouldn't call him a pet more like an ally. Im glad we finally met, I had to make sure you were not of his thinking. But after Rex watched you all day Im confident that you are a decent soul. Im sure you have questions Rikke go ahead and ask I will answers as I can.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Rikke would sit down at the offered seat and looked on to the strange, trying to spot out any curious details about her... beyond the strange hair color. Yet, the girl would shortly make an invitation... that she'd likely regret giving the overly curious rogue! "Anything?" Rikke puckered her lips and raised an eyebrow, before taking a deep breath...

"Okay... Lets start with.. who are you, who's your foxy friend.. and who's the beast you fought, is it the same one that prowls the night?" even if the questions burned, the rogue did her best to keep herself from overwhelming the girl, thus she'd space out her barrage for now for now.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

The woman would smile lightly and straighten out her robes. "My name is or rather was Emilia Vanderian. But it has been several years sense I've heard it. And my foxy friend is named Rex. As for the beast his is one as the sames as your unfortunate encounter would suggest. As for who he is thats a bit complicated. He was a simple swordsman hailing from a province to the east. But he found a cursed blade.... and well.... you saw for yourself what happened. I've been fighting him and his kind for awhile now.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"You're the mage that blew up the old brothel, aren't you?" Rikke continued "And this cursed swordsman, you two fought. No? I saw it from my ship when we first arrived. You blew up the lighthouse and everything." so that... thing was just a cursed swordsman, not some supernatural creature of death the rogue imagined in her mind!

Still... for a curse to twist someones body so badly... The very thought sent a goosebump up the rogues body. Her attention quickly returning to the strange mages tale regarding her and the beasts encounter.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

Yes well... I didn't intend to blow up the light house. He caught me off guard..... I was waiting for you to come into shore. He must have sensed you as well. The brothel was an unfortunate accident as well. Im still trying to find a new safe house. This time Ill ward it against everything. The woman nervously played with her hair waiting to field anymore questions Rikke might have.

Re: Chapter 5 Home is where the Heart is (Ubberific) GMed by ranger

"Waiting... for me?" Rikke blinked curiously, it was only then it hit her that the woman addressed her by name without Rikke having introduced herself! "Him as well? But... what makes me special?" she'd blink curiously at the words. Rikke had certainly felt disconnected from her supernatural self for a long while now, atleast ever since she woke up on the windy hill.

"Why did you two fight anyway? He... wanted to hurt you?" just as important the information regarding the mage, was any information regarding the curse...
