Exactly.
Same with Duke Nukem Forever.
People expected waaay too much from that game (personally did enjoy it, was retro af with modern graphics).

People weren't expecting anything until they kept delaying it over and over again. The whole episode thing was supposed to let them release the game faster. I reckon quite a few people would have been happy with just the EP2 Source engine.

Honestly, I do not see why I was optimistic about this becoming an option. Ranting in spoilers.

Creation Club, aka 'Bethesda's quality contro-HA couldn't keep a straight face.

When it comes to FO4 mods I've found thus far, I admit, my standards are pretty average now. But half of this shit doesn't even hit those standards. Weapon mods should AT LEAST have injections into the leveled list, and match the modification levels of the standard weapons. You don't even really need custom animations or legendary variations of your added-in goods to be ok (though I'll love you if you do.)

That homemade shotgun though? Drops right into your inventory on first loadup and apparently barely matches mod count with the default hunting shotgun.

And where are the quest mods? Where is the new companions? Where is the y'know, CONTENT THE GAME NEEDS BEYOND BANGSTICKS AND MECH SUITS?!?

Honestly that's the biggest thing I was fearing when Creation Club was first announced. I have no problem with people wanting to get money for their projects if they so choose, but if you can't hold up against the competition, especially those that find it an honor of pride that the closest to payment they may get is a Patreon donation every time they do pull out a new finished project or paypal tip char, and the mods on the store are so goddamn lazy in comparison to the stuff they do with implementation or features, then why is Bethesda even bothering?

Yeah, TBH Mods could've saved my experience with FO4. Even if it was just trying new ones out every 10 or so hours of grind.

I saw a sample picture from a porn game that had a male that looked like Jabba the Hutt in human form. It was grotesque to the extreme and I wondered what kind of person could design such a being. It couldn't have even been human.

Also, War of Chosen = good. Maybe I'm wearing nostalgia blinders but it wasn't as cool as getting MECs in Enemy Within. Because MECs are cool incarnate. Is it worth $40? Ehhh... sure, maybe with the amount of content. I don't like it THAT much but it's still cool.

The new Guild Wars 2 expansion is some seriously good stuff. Best part easily are the mounts - they're not just speed buffs, they each have different abilities and handle like actual animals that you ride, with momentum and turn radius. The story is good, the new maps are huge and filled with lore, the new elite specs (subclasses) are always a welcome addition. The core game has been free to play since the last expansion came out, so if you're looking for a new MMO, give GW2 a look.

Speaking of mods...or "not-mods"...Bethesda's Creation Club has released their own version of the popular immersion mod Frostfall and Realistic Needs and Diseases for Skyrim...and they called it "Survival"...10 points for name originality...for a week starting now you can get it for Skyrim SE for Free so get it if you are still interested in Bethetic's stuff after the shitfest they have done with CC...because after the 1 week grace period the "not-paid-mod" will set you back around $15...

Warhammer Total war 2 is hella fun, can't wait for the combined map.

Albeit a little nervous about the shitloads of DLC they're gonna make. Still, defo gonna get the Tomb Kings once they're released. Until then it's lizard time, baby.

Because I'm apparently a masochistic derp, I'm deciding to say 'heck with it' and give TES IV: Oblivion another go at trying to win me over. I know already that I'm definitely needing some Quality of Life stuff so I don't drive myself insane with the small stuff. Anyone else revisited this decade-old game and got some good suggestions to pimp out the experience a little?

Wish I could help you but honestly, I loved Oblivion. Granted it was my first TES. The only things I ever really added were spells and derpneat gear.

Off of the top of my head, I can't remember. I think, however, that Hardware did do a fair bit of modding on Oblivion, he might have a few.

Oblivion has a lot of mods if you could take a gander at Nexus...I think 2nd or 3rd from Skyrim...and there are a lot of sex mods in there as well...

I am still waiting for Skyblivion though as nice and nostalgic in playing TES4 again (IMHO) it just looks dated... unless you are there to play it again just for the story which is 1000X better than in Skyrim...and I also missed the class based system there...

if you really want to have a full on sex experience in tamriel, you couldn't go wrong with Skyrim...the sex mods there are...legion...LoversLab is your friend...
