Just got done playing some SCUM.
Presents itself in a battle royal style but from what I've seen I wouldn't bother with multiplayer at this point. Even if you manage to overcome another player you're just going to bleed out from your injuries. In a game with so many ways to die it's pretty critical to give the player ways to prevent that easily, yet sadly they either aren't present or they are so obtuse I can't figure them out.
UI needs tons of work, too many actions and crafting are unintuitive (yes there's more to craft than what's in the crafting menu, good luck figuring out how to do it though!).
Combat is... dumb, it basically boils down to you backpedaling from zombies and trying to hit them with your weapon while they're recovering from their attacks. Which are faster than yours, oh and don't think that using a spear or any long halfted weapon is going to help much because you swing them all like a bat, they only offer you the ability to hit at the same range as the zombies (everything else gives you less range than them).
Guns are pretty pointless, they just draw zombies to you and will even cause more to spawn in an area. So enjoy trying to kill something other than a zombie for meat, you're gonna call in a bunch of the fuckers. Did I mention that you not only need to find a gun, but also a magazine for the gun (because everybody stores those separate) and corresponding ammo as well. Too often have I found a gun next to ammunition for a different gun.
Zombies will aggro onto you thru walls, particularly annoying as they won't give up as long as you are withing a certain radius of them so waiting inside a building for them to lose interest in the foot shuffling that got their attention isn't an option.
All this said, the game has potential. Just take one look at the metabolism screen and you can see exactly how complex just keeping your character alive is. And everybody knows how entertaining scavenging around towns and military bases can be. SCUM still needs alot of work and balancing before it makes it out of EA, but if they manage to address the issues that really hamper fun it'll turn out to be a great game. If they ever to make it out of EA...
