Both warriors and mages could dual wield in DAO, so they kind of remeoved some of your freedom in personalizing your character. The classes are already differentiated through skills and weapon types, so it's an unnecessary change, unless they didn't want to waste time with more coding and animations.
Talking about animations, the messy kills are laughable, no more special attack animations, no more slow motion acrobatic action on your ogre or high dragon, now you just see normal enemies explode!
I didn't even know a normal arrow could make you explode!
Dual wielding wasn't removed, it was simply given to the Rogue to make a difference.
