Games Discussion Thread

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Dual wielding wasn't removed, it was simply given to the Rogue to make a difference.

Both warriors and mages could dual wield in DAO, so they kind of remeoved some of your freedom in personalizing your character. The classes are already differentiated through skills and weapon types, so it's an unnecessary change, unless they didn't want to waste time with more coding and animations.

Talking about animations, the messy kills are laughable, no more special attack animations, no more slow motion acrobatic action on your ogre or high dragon, now you just see normal enemies explode!
I didn't even know a normal arrow could make you explode!

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Psh. You say that like it's a bad thing.

I like Bloody Roar and Darkstalkers. You better get out of my face with that decap shit.

The reason for all the glorified violence is because this is a story being told by a dwarf that likes to embellish things quite a bit.

I mean dual wielding great sword.

Talking about embellishing things...

Varric's version of what happened in his brother's mansion took me by complete surprise. It felt like mass effect all of a sudden.

"No shit, i was there, like i'm in front you right now, and the damn arrow sent pieces of the poor sod flying in all directions, while blood poured down on us like warm spring rain, and the thundering roar of the champion shook the heaven as Andraste herself cowered in fear at the side of the maker!"

"..."

"What?"

Okay, when you put it like that, I can't really argue. But the mediocrity of Mortal Kombat was what made it fun!

And alchohol. Plenty and plenty of flamable alchohol.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Goddommit, for some reason I can't download my Live account details to play online with Dawn of War 2, and with my other Live account I can't connect it online for some unknown reason. Looks like I'll have to wait until I've moved out and got my own internet before playing it online.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Fuck JohnDoe, if you don't like it, don't play it.

Do what I do, ignore everything he says because he seems to be out to just cause strife when there's no need for it. Kinda like me but without the charm. That way you won't keep getting angry or whatever whenever he opens his gob.

If i didn't like it i wouldn't have played it, but that doesn't mean that i have to like everything about it, if you just need to blow some steam, you're better off doing it in a different way, because playing aggressive with me will only end up making you angrier.

That said, this is my last post on the matter, let's get back on topic.:)

Re: Games Discussion Thread

It was noted earlier that there's this soundtrack being released which contains theme songs made by different artists and such. Now whoever uploaded that video is (I'm guessing) saying that the song for that tv spot is reptile's song from this soundtrack? Edit, it is Reptile's track:

Also, here's some random coverage:

I can't wait to test the combo system. Seeing as how they want to make this a big competitive gaming thing, they'll have to have combos. Yet it's not supposed to be like their previous 3D versions, where there's like 10 button combos you can look up and practice and knowing. Now it's more like a ton of small combos that you have to learn how to mix together to pull of that killer 10+ combo or whatnot. We'll see.

Also, they're releasing a classic arcade setup... obviously to promote that competitive stuff. Very cool...

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Crysis 2 finally came out.

And despite what Crytek has been trying to say for the last few months, it's a complete console port.

1) It says press start to begin game. I don't see any start button on my keyboard. Do you?
2) No quick save or any kind of manual save. Check point save only.
3) No advanced graphics settings. You can only choose between bad, medium, good, etc.
4) Someone managed to find a line of code that says "Please adjust the contrast of your TV until you can see the bottom line of text".
5) DX 9 only.

Okay, may be that doesn't make it a bad game, but can't the developers at least put in a little effort to make it less obvious that this game is a console port? Also, no quick save and DX 9 only?

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I can see how that'd be annoying after they said it wouldn't be a console port...

I'm not convinced on Crysis 2 myself. I might rent it, but we'll see. I tried the multiplayer demo and it honestly didn't seem that special, especially with so many FPS games on the market right now.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Ah, Crysis 2. The latest graphic card stress test. At least that's what Crysis was, I imagine 2 being not much different.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

So I finally downloaded Dissidia Duodecim Prologus. Seems like I've gotten rusty, and Cloud is a juggling twat.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I've been lied to, I was told the dragons themselves in Dragon Age II were huge pushovers compared to the first game. Imagine my slight surprise when I discovered this first dragon I meet is barely out of adolescence and I'm later confronted by a true dragon that puts up as good a fight as ones from the original.

Clearly you weren't running around Awakenings with Nathaniel in your party, equipped with the Howe bow...

Varric's version of what happened in his brother's mansion took me by complete surprise. It felt like mass effect all of a sudden.

I f'ing loved that part. It threw me for a loop when it was "Holy shit, I'm Varric now? WTF?" and then I started playing it and it was like "Wait a minute here..." By the time the third wave of enemies surged into the room, I was waiting for another Cassandra "Bullshit!" cut in.

Holy crap, yeah, I must have started that fight over a dozen times. Especially since I was trying for the "no knockdown" achievement (uuuggggh!) That was just...wow. And according to my friend, I have an even funner dragon fight coming up! *flat* Joy.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Ah yes, the first dragon - I was completely unprepared for that one. Still, I had surprisingly little trouble with it. There is one later in Act I that really made me pull out my hair, though.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

The only dragon i met that actually put up a decent fight was the high dragon in the third act and it gave me problems only because it kept flying out of reach and shoot fireballs while calling minion on me, annoying more than hard, but a fun fight.
