Re: Games Discussion Thread

/me punches

No. The order is
  1. Remake Metroid 2 so it gets popular attention for once and reveals the story
  2. Remake Super Metroid: The best of the series
  3. Update and release Hunters

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Stoked about Dishonored 2. The first one was a breakout success for me.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I wish they would release more teasers for FF7 Remake

I never did get to play through Metroid 2, although I did beat the last boss for a friend at school. xD

I would love to play a remake of it. They should make a compilation of Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion, all side scrolling of course... Would it be asking too much for them to release it for the Gamecube? :)

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Should Nintendo remake any of the Metroids or a sequel to DK64 it's just going to be an amiibo shit-fest. Want the wave beam? GOTTA HAVE THE WAVE BEAM AMIIBO! Want to play as Diddy? GOTTA HAVE THE DIDDY AMIIBO! Oh yeah, they'll be making them in limited batches BTW. Not to order, like anyone with a brain might.

Infinite warfare... apparently alot of people are saying it's delivering on what Star Citizen promised. I just don't see it, I'm not defending SC as it was a failed project the second they used cryengine and scaled everything down to the point where it couldn't keep track of the physics equations. But all I've seen from the COD footage is a giant, scripted single player mission. Nothing like what SC had promised.

IF, and this is a BIG IF, they do manage seamless transitions from space sim ship combat to first person shooting, with an mmo multiplayer, I will GLADLY eat crow.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

. DREAMS DO COME TRUE!

Re: Games Discussion Thread

If it's on the exact same version of the engine the original Skyrim was on, you're gonna have a bad time. That particular version of the Creation Engine is about as well-coded as a platter of spaghetti.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Actually, it isn't, thanks for asking. they're updating it to 64-bit, with a brand new version of the engine meant to handle it much better. Whole reason they're doing the update, though i get the feeling it's a paid beta test for the engine they want to use for Elder scrolls 6 and fallout 5. XD

Re: Games Discussion Thread

And everyone who already bought into it is getting completely fucked out of their money. "Here, buy this less-buggy version of a product you already own for 60 more dollars!"

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Except PC, who are getting it for free if they already own the legendary edition, or the base edition and all the DLC.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Maybe this version will have fixed the permanent death ashes glitch.
Which also happens to show up in Fallout 4 as permanent death goo.

You would think they would get this right after failing to do so in a previous game...

Much like many MMOs, it's easier to improve and enhance the stuff than it is to poke at odd small bits in the code that are hard to always replicate. I can only assume that's why ragdoll-causing killmoves fuck up in Skyrim so bad, as no weapons really had ragdoll triggers on kill until we got Project Flintlock's grenade rifles.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Just a few days ago I killed a bear in Fallout 4, Far Harbor, with a non-automatic rifle. The thing went flying off in some random direction. I decided, "Well I'm not find THAT body." and didn't bother looking for it. I could understand grenades doing that, but guns? Eh.. crazy game physics. xP

I really wish you could take legendary modifiers and move them to other weapons/armor. I also wish they hadn't added in more modifiers.. all the new ones are really bad. :( Not to mention they make it even more difficult to find a good one now.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

There are mods for exactly that: getting rid of unwanted legendary effects and adding wanted ones to weapons/armor.

Also, I will never get rid of ragdoll physics in Skyrim. Remember when you got killed by a giant? Comedy gold.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Gotta be honest, I love when the rag-dolls wig out. Gives me a chuckle when a 9mm bullet sends something flying. Things like this are a good break from all the rather forced humor that doesn't suit my taste.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Oh there's nothing wrong with ragdoll fun when it works. Triggering Bloody Mess with a 9mm is just glorious. HOWEVER! Turning the ragdoll into a static model you can't activate later (like, say, Project Flintlock doing killmoves with grenade rifles in Skyrim) sucks tho, as did apparently the Junk Jet in 4...

That one time I got killed by a dos pha ra by a nord skeleton, my character got stuck to the wall and one of her arms started wigging out. lol

Hope they leave the magic leveling system alone, I love taping my controller to heal and burn a giant at a entrance to the watch tower. :D

Re: Games Discussion Thread

Got my hands on a friend's copy of Overwatch recently. TF2 has been overthrown! My thoughts on the characters:
I'd group them into 3 tiers
tier 1:
Arrow guy: Gonna take a lot of time to learn how to get good with, but once you are he's beast. Leading arrows properly fucks everyone and bounce arrows ruin groups in a confined space. Ultimate is easy to dodge as long as you're not bunched up with the rest of your team.
Roadhog: Absurd health, self healing, get over here, and his ultimate wrecks entire teams. Nuff said.
Jump-jet girl: Aoe rockets, kills tanks easy like, jumps get you anywhere and allow you to completely wreck scrubs spamming reinhart's shield (Jump, use your RB to seperate his team from him and then rocket to the face). Ultimate ruins everyone's day, just make sure you don't kill yourself. Honstely she's my favorite offensive character. You'll just need to get good at estimating how far to lead targets at what distances. Eventually when people are good with the snipers jumping and hovering will get you killed really quick though.
Lucio: Dodges like crazy, can heal and speed boost. Unfortunately most players aren't going to use him as support, just annoy you with him.
Angel-medic: Revive and teleport to hurt tank 'nuff said.

Tier 2:
D.VA: Really want to put her in tier one, but Roadhog's self-heal trumps her CIWS. And for team play, having 2 lives is kinda nice but really hurts your team when you're running around waiting to re-spawn your mech. You can trigger her ultimate while doing the dash and the dash will continue, best way to avoid being caught in it yourself but hard to aim for max effect.
Reinhart: Properly supported and played BOTH offensively as well as defensively he'll kick ass. Too many players just pick him just to put up that shield. Which is easily circumvented by alot of characters.
Tracer: Hard to kill with, b/c short clips and low damage ammo. I'd bump her up to tier 1 if her blink continued your momentum so you could strafe better, having to aim where you want to blink to really hampers the ability in combat.
Widow: Personal prefrence here, I don't like to sit on the ground whle I'm sniping so alot of levels really just don't have spots I like so I don't end up using her. If her grapple could hold her to a wall or ceiling for a short period I'd bump her up to tier 1. Trap is too visible, ultimate is nice support but really doesn't compare with the damage based ones.
Hindu guy: Very focused support, can only buff or de-buff 1 person each at a time. If his attacks would home in on a debuffed enemy I'd bump him. Going to be hectic deciding who to buff or de-buff.
Desperado: I don't like him, takes too long to shoot or re-load. If I was using the mouse I might fare better. If his flash-bang lasted longer he'd be tier 1.
Death: Teleport takes forever, but can get you pretty much anywhere. Wraith form should really be used to get the fuck out of dodge. Healing from kills is really nice, but I hate his shotguns.
Ninja: Really really hate this guy, can never do his refelect ability right but always end up getting wrecked by anyone using it. Suffers from the same slow-firing hyper-accurate weapon that Desperado guy does.
Junkrat: Good area suppression with his main gun, can get some momvent out of his explosive pack. When using his ultimate I always end up getting killed before I can set the bomb off orrrrr somebody shoots it, so boooo.
Ice girl: Walls are nice, really butt-fuck the escort mission, but take too long to recharge for other situations. Haven't played as her.

Tier 3:
Engineer Dwarf: Give him a second turret and he jumps straight to tier 1. Let him choose targets for it and tier 2. As it is with it's quick target acquisiton and never missing, the turret is TOO good so I make it my priority to kill whenever I have the chance. Leaving anyone playing him in the lurch.
Soldier whatever: Would jump to tier 2 if you could toss his heal instead of just dropping it where you stand. Rockets are kinda meh. Main gun is nice, but I can't stand being stuck with a recticule instead of having iron-sights.
Winston: Shit 'hold to damage' weapon with crap range (I hate these), ultimate is rather usless unless everyone's stuck in a confined space as it doesn't speed up your jump recharge. Even while playing D.VA with my mech gone someone ultimated and jumped at me, but all it did was knock me back. I was able to run around, get back in my mech and ruin his day.
Dia Zerva: I believe she's another Shit 'hold to damage' weapon character, so I didn't use her.
Last support girl: Same deal as with the other 'hold to damage' Weapon characters. She's got potential with her alternate fire though, I haven't run into too many people using her though so she could be better than I think.
Robot: Main weapon clip is too small, he moves too slow so is easily ended while walking around and even easier while he's in turret form. That said, if you set up in the right spot and have good cover from your team, turret wrecks everything but it's too big of an if to get him out of the bottom. His ultimate is neat, but I didn't get to use it much. If he had a bigger clip, faster move or could repair WHILE moving/firing I'd bump him up to tier 2, tier 1 if he had more health as well.

That should be it, most of them are fun to play no matter what tier they're in. The only real trick is finding a match that isn't horribly one-sided, honestly I had more fun in matches that were neck-and-neck than in any of the ones where my team dominated.

(etc)

If these tiers are merely your favourites thus far, fair enough. If it's supposed to be anything implying how good they are, then I'd say you need to play some more and stop trying to imagine them in tiers. But you do say you only got it recently after all.

But Zarya in T3? "shit hold to damage" character? Oh dear. Her beam attack isn't lock on or whatever you're assuming it to be, and she has an AoE arcing shot with knockback too. Her absorb barriers are tricky but very powerful, and incredibly satisfying once you get the hang of her. A rock solid front-liner/skirmisher able to switch between aggression and defensive play on demand. Either getting up in peoples face with her beamgun and high sustain, or relentlessly lobbing plasma with impunity from further back. Always satisfying to just entirely absorb a junkrat riptire for extra firepower and spit it back at the enemy.

Also regarding Symmetra, the other "SHTD" character. That short range beam weapon of hers actually jumps from 30 to 60 to 120dps within the first second of firing, and has an ammo capacity to sustain that far longer than most characters with equivalent damage potential. She's by no means a brawler, but it's still dangerous to underestimate her. She'll melt a dismissive tank dead in seconds flat if he ignores her during a push.

Regarding D.Va. She's an unintuitive one to play well at first, but that "CIWS" ability of hers in particular becomes a lot more powerful once you realise how far it's range actually extends, and that it can completely negate many characters ults or abilities. Ever get a reaper trying to crash your party, and all you have to do it aim your defence matrix at him, lasting the exact same duration (3s), and it will safely delete the entirety of his shots leaving him helpless. Same thing for a junkrat tire. Just flick it in the the tires direction. High noon? Same deal, can save entire team. Roadhog? Soldier? Pharah? Tracer? Same. Even Hanzo's ult can be negated if you're close enough to sweep the arrow before it pops into the dragons.

Re: Games Discussion Thread

I tried to be impartial for the most part, as you've surmised I didn't get a whole lot of time to play, and was at low level/rank. Honestly I never saw anyone use Zarya in 5-6 hours of playing (And as such I assumed her to be similar to Winston, I'll admit my bad on this one and will give her a try the next time I get a chance) , and only two symmetra in games where I was using the longer ranged characters (lol got my ass ganked by her alt-fire because I ran straight into it popping in and out of cover) but to be fair I did question my own ranking of her! Mostly what I saw tier 3 being were characters that were much more situational in their effectiveness than the others, not worthless to play. Of course I can't be completely impartial, but I think that for the most part my rankings fit. For instance: I'll play widow over the archer pretty much any time I can, but because he's fairly versatile and puts out absurd damage even if his arrows hit the torso I have to rank him above her. Same with roadhog vs other tanks, I don't like using him personally but it's hard to beat self-healing and shutting down mid ranged characters with the hook.

And no, I did NOT realize that you can fuck over projectile based ultimates with D.Va's CIWS (Counter Incoming Weapons System, I'm calling it the general term for what her ability is, not being condescending but your quotations gave me the thought that you might not know what it was), that bumps her to tier 1. Does it shut down roadhog's and jump-jet rocket girl's (damn can't remember her name kinda sad since I had the most fun with her. Is it Phara, I feel like it's Phara but I associate that name with LOQO >.<) ultimates as well?
