Re: Games Discussion Thread
Got my hands on a friend's copy of Overwatch recently. TF2 has been overthrown! My thoughts on the characters:
I'd group them into 3 tiers
tier 1:
Arrow guy: Gonna take a lot of time to learn how to get good with, but once you are he's beast. Leading arrows properly fucks everyone and bounce arrows ruin groups in a confined space. Ultimate is easy to dodge as long as you're not bunched up with the rest of your team.
Roadhog: Absurd health, self healing, get over here, and his ultimate wrecks entire teams. Nuff said.
Jump-jet girl: Aoe rockets, kills tanks easy like, jumps get you anywhere and allow you to completely wreck scrubs spamming reinhart's shield (Jump, use your RB to seperate his team from him and then rocket to the face). Ultimate ruins everyone's day, just make sure you don't kill yourself. Honstely she's my favorite offensive character. You'll just need to get good at estimating how far to lead targets at what distances. Eventually when people are good with the snipers jumping and hovering will get you killed really quick though.
Lucio: Dodges like crazy, can heal and speed boost. Unfortunately most players aren't going to use him as support, just annoy you with him.
Angel-medic: Revive and teleport to hurt tank 'nuff said.
Tier 2:
D.VA: Really want to put her in tier one, but Roadhog's self-heal trumps her CIWS. And for team play, having 2 lives is kinda nice but really hurts your team when you're running around waiting to re-spawn your mech. You can trigger her ultimate while doing the dash and the dash will continue, best way to avoid being caught in it yourself but hard to aim for max effect.
Reinhart: Properly supported and played BOTH offensively as well as defensively he'll kick ass. Too many players just pick him just to put up that shield. Which is easily circumvented by alot of characters.
Tracer: Hard to kill with, b/c short clips and low damage ammo. I'd bump her up to tier 1 if her blink continued your momentum so you could strafe better, having to aim where you want to blink to really hampers the ability in combat.
Widow: Personal prefrence here, I don't like to sit on the ground whle I'm sniping so alot of levels really just don't have spots I like so I don't end up using her. If her grapple could hold her to a wall or ceiling for a short period I'd bump her up to tier 1. Trap is too visible, ultimate is nice support but really doesn't compare with the damage based ones.
Hindu guy: Very focused support, can only buff or de-buff 1 person each at a time. If his attacks would home in on a debuffed enemy I'd bump him. Going to be hectic deciding who to buff or de-buff.
Desperado: I don't like him, takes too long to shoot or re-load. If I was using the mouse I might fare better. If his flash-bang lasted longer he'd be tier 1.
Death: Teleport takes forever, but can get you pretty much anywhere. Wraith form should really be used to get the fuck out of dodge. Healing from kills is really nice, but I hate his shotguns.
Ninja: Really really hate this guy, can never do his refelect ability right but always end up getting wrecked by anyone using it. Suffers from the same slow-firing hyper-accurate weapon that Desperado guy does.
Junkrat: Good area suppression with his main gun, can get some momvent out of his explosive pack. When using his ultimate I always end up getting killed before I can set the bomb off orrrrr somebody shoots it, so boooo.
Ice girl: Walls are nice, really butt-fuck the escort mission, but take too long to recharge for other situations. Haven't played as her.
Tier 3:
Engineer Dwarf: Give him a second turret and he jumps straight to tier 1. Let him choose targets for it and tier 2. As it is with it's quick target acquisiton and never missing, the turret is TOO good so I make it my priority to kill whenever I have the chance. Leaving anyone playing him in the lurch.
Soldier whatever: Would jump to tier 2 if you could toss his heal instead of just dropping it where you stand. Rockets are kinda meh. Main gun is nice, but I can't stand being stuck with a recticule instead of having iron-sights.
Winston: Shit 'hold to damage' weapon with crap range (I hate these), ultimate is rather usless unless everyone's stuck in a confined space as it doesn't speed up your jump recharge. Even while playing D.VA with my mech gone someone ultimated and jumped at me, but all it did was knock me back. I was able to run around, get back in my mech and ruin his day.
Dia Zerva: I believe she's another Shit 'hold to damage' weapon character, so I didn't use her.
Last support girl: Same deal as with the other 'hold to damage' Weapon characters. She's got potential with her alternate fire though, I haven't run into too many people using her though so she could be better than I think.
Robot: Main weapon clip is too small, he moves too slow so is easily ended while walking around and even easier while he's in turret form. That said, if you set up in the right spot and have good cover from your team, turret wrecks everything but it's too big of an if to get him out of the bottom. His ultimate is neat, but I didn't get to use it much. If he had a bigger clip, faster move or could repair WHILE moving/firing I'd bump him up to tier 2, tier 1 if he had more health as well.
That should be it, most of them are fun to play no matter what tier they're in. The only real trick is finding a match that isn't horribly one-sided, honestly I had more fun in matches that were neck-and-neck than in any of the ones where my team dominated.
