There's no doubt that people who question the methods and implementation of H games and their mechanics are a vocal minority. H games have a ton of different genres and fetishes, and so that minority is further negligible and divided. For a long time the highest selling H game on DLsite which, not including whatever fees and taxes the dev had to pay, equaled millions of dollars, was Teaching Feeling. An ADV sim H game akin to a Ren'py novel with a half baked slave route, a pure love route and had like 12 HCG when it came out. I don't doubt any H game can sell well, even ones that have copy and paste gameplay like Bejeweled or generic RPG maker. Us trying to set standards higher for H game developers is more in consequence to our jaded existence on the matter, no longer able to really enjoy those simpler times with simple H games...

I think the problem is that Mission Mermaiden was pretty damn good for what it was at the time. Which was this guy's first H-Act title.

Many of us all expected Hachina to be more of an improvement after 4 years of combined work experience, but there really wasn't much to speak of and hell, I actually think MM actually has slightly more content. From where I observe, I think the dev burned out their interest to work on Hachina by adding bells and whistles (the whole crafting system, making maps join together, fast travel, etc) rather than more combat/platforming + nsfw content. That it was also made into a metroidvania is very strange choice when the stage by stage system was fine.

Honestly, I don't ever understand why devs take extra unnecessary steps to do what they think is improving gameplay when it means they neglect the nsfw aspects. They should be able to tell that their titles were even noticeable in the first place because of their animated nsfw content.
True, like. They have 4 fucking years to develop (not to mention the environment building + animation experience from Mission Mermaiden) and yet decided release something that was a clear downgrade and half-baked in the H content, which is what makes Hakkaku's H game special. But again, I don't think Hakkaku going to vonsider reading our feedbacks or criticism on content as their recent blog on Q&A is only NPC-alike compliments, system compatibility and bug fixes. It just.....sad that smaller voices like us on the harsh reality of Hachina won't even appear in the devs mind as copium-filled artists and players on MIZUKU's twitter/X are still blindly praising it as a "good game".

Incoming copium theory: What if Hakkaku team (around a year ago) have cut down the development focus of Hachina so as to switch focus onto this new planning game?

Yeah I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'd be happy if they proved me wrong, but of all the game styles to chose from, tower defense has got to have some of the worst compatibility with engaging H content.

Wasn't it the opposite?

I recall there are some Tower Defense type where you summon the girl as your tower and the monster will violate them if their HP runs out.

Lot of possible combination from the girls + monster, although that also means lot of work needs to be done.

It also gets smothered by larger, louder minorities who complain too much about not getting exactly what they wanted from some sweaty Jap guy after not even paying for it.
Call it odd but hentai games are the one genre where I could care less about the quality of sequels-- since most of the time it's an amateur artist/progammer just throwing it out there for someone to show interest in-- not a Marvel cinematic cast of devoted porn addicts monkeying together the most profound CGI of a foot fetishists wet dream. I'm not going to make a passion project and consistently hit gold, or even try to when I just want to test out what I've learned with tools rather than specifically go into the porn itself. I'll give the dev credit-- it's not nearly as buggy/glitched out as the much-appraised sequel, but that's definitely that case #1 opinion.

On top of it all, there's too many classics to complain about the quality of fresh meat. At least they didn't make a shitty 3D fighter that no one asked for.

I'd rather the MC/PC gets raped instead of her well summon/subordinates/friend, Mizuku's stuff has always been "how the PC gets fucked by stuff and gets some consequences to go with it" type of deal, which is absolutely tasty. That said its kinda hard for Tower Defense type game to have that type of deal.
Despite the slight disappointment of Hachina compared to Mermaiden, its still a really good H game by any means and I hope everything goes well for the dev still, the closest replacement in terms of this type of "deal" is RiceReng but unfortunately the infinite delay and stuff makes it so that the realistic thing one can hope for is by Mizuku.

PC/MC - >get fucked if the enemy break into your home / etc.

Or maybe the MC herself is the "tower" that's fighting enemies, and she gets status effects that reduce her capabilities if enemies manage to reach her.

You could potentially make it work if you're creative enough with it.

I remember this old tower defense called Queen Ant way back in like 2012? It was pretty similar in concept to other Flash H games like the tentacle egg ovipositor one or the sperm trail. I think Tower defense games where you try to stop invaders from fucking the main objective is ideal over having multiple females. The only issue is figuring out a way to avoid game overs from that state and expand on it so we can continue to fap without being stalled by a gameplay state somehow. Much harder in concept but much more satisfying.

Perhaps if we played as the invading force, or have the H game split off into two routes with some kind of corruption or NTR going on.

Well how the next game would be good or bad would depend on how the arts and animations are, just like how we ended up following this game dev for years because of the promise of those juicy animations and arts.

Well according to the Dev's initial comments on the next game there won't be any animations in it, so that's a thing to keep in mind.

If we gain more devs putting actual effort in than we lose going back to craptacular trash added to the pile, we still win unless they all just suck. They probably shouldn't though.

Anyhow, whatever this one dev actually decides to do, I don't really care. IMO he seems to have stopped improving in terms of quality and his titles are just distractions for other things. Not really enough quality to be titles you'd regularly check for updates on or pay any mind to while they're just in their drafts on paper stage.

If you play h game action platformers/metroidvanias you know there's a whole genre of games where the dev has no game design sense at all and throws random enemies in long winding corridors with no rhyme or reason, kinda like an anti-megaman. This is what Mission Mermaiden was, and unfortunately that's what this ended up being. It sucks too because the kinks and ero are a lot of fun and games with LOTS of hypnosis are pretty rare.

Additionally, and this is a bit of a rare miss, most h games i play are better than the sum of their parts; that extra context around the ero kinda adds to it even if the gameplay wasn't all that great. Unfortunately the ero in this game (and mermaiden) just so barely ties into anything relevant gameplay wise, the story is stupid i don't even want to talk about bugs vs youkai that I really would just recommend people look at a gallery save instead. Alot of the type of ero this dev seems to love is quite intimate types of power-struggle hypnosis that would play off much better in a different genre (like an RPG) with more dialogue or room for nuance rather than random grapples in a platformer.

I think for all it's problems Undercrust was closer to being the game I really wanted this circle to make. Ah well.

I will say I was a little disappointed by the fact status effects barely tied into gameplay unlike Mermaiden - especially that the bondage sequence was a sequence, and not another dynamically acquired status effect. The combat parts weren't really challenging - a little more than Mermaiden, but still mashing Z and looking in the direction of each enemy was enough - it's another one of those where you kinda have to deliberately sabotage yourself to trigger many of the scenes, but over the years I've come to accept that and while I wish it were different - constantly being locked into watching those animations would be even more frustrating.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the game. It controls tight, there's a good variety of enemies, environments and animations - I didn't come across any major bugs, I even found the story interesting and original without distracting too much from the gameplay, and we got an english translation out the gate.

Calling it "bad" is kinda laughable - even if you criticize this as harshly as you possibly could within reason, it's still objectively head and shoulders above the majority of what else is on the market, especially when much of that is already eliminated if you're looking specifically for the set of fetishes it caters to. It fulfills the basics of what an H-game needs to be - some scenarios and interactivity to contextualize animated sex scenes - and in many ways, it goes above and beyond.

I agree with Mikufanboy's comment, I think we hold H-games to an unrealistically high standard. Remember, this forum started around a game that had a grand total of 5 scenes/animations - 3 enemies, 1 game over, one game complete - and back then it was the best thing since sliced bread. Of course, we all want "more and better", but that's labor, which can easily be undermined by burnout, scope creep etc. if limits aren't set from the beginning.

Yeah, by no stretch of the imagination is this a bad h-title. It's just not really the improvement I was expecting of the dev. The first few demos were so much more promising than what we ultimately got, the boss with the freaking platforms going up and down and using the stomp ability to interact with them was so satisfying. I was legitimately excited because I thought the other bosses would be like this too, but they weren't. The copium hit me hard when I saw the first bosses' new mechanic and you essentially just mash the attack button while standing away from the boss because it'll just grab you. In general there was so much standing there attack button mashing with bosses, but they were all largely tolerable save for the final one which I fucking despise so much. Mashing, combat flow breaking via pausing to craft, more mashing. Soured the actually solid experience a ton.

Still though, I don't think anybody is at fault for standards getting higher considering the last few year's bangers we're accumulating, the top shelf stuff like Lutellaria and Monster Black Market. We're actually starting to get a collection of memorable nsfw games with more than passable gameplay and top tier H-scenes at a rate of 1-3 titles a year. That's just... something that never really happened before.

To be frank, had the devs didn't overhype this game with the "new mechanics and H sequences", me, IAmAKi and many others wouldn't make such harsh criticism at the dev's professionalism in maintain and improving their standards in the first place. One small fact that I mentioned in my previous review on the game is the first boss (meatball thing) in the demo is so fucking good as it incorporated with new mechanics, usage of platforms and you can't simply spam Z is already a huge plus, but in the official release for some reasons they reworked the boss and turned it into an absolute joke when simply waiting for the "pink spores" to activate and shredding the boss health. And then other bosses (except Chouen) having shitty A.I with limited movesets, making the Hachina boss fights compared to MM boss fights is a downgrade. Like, anyone play Hachina without knowing its name and already played MM before would thought this is some kind of alpha version of the new game or somekind of time paradox DLC of MM as the "new H animation become sequences animation and mechanics" is nothing that "new" like the devs promised . And even when the story is good, it couldn't fools us on the downgrades of Hachina when compared with MM as we, the customers, who have followed the dev logs and their Marshmellow Q&A then willing to spend money to play the game expectations were built from their promises.

This is why we expected that Hakkaku would not only fixing bugs that they currently does atm, but also adding and diversify more content so as not to make Hachina in the matters of later months be remembered as a half baked and dissapointing H game when the current hypetrain died out and players woke up from that hype/copium.
