Blame the fact that in anime, every man and woman has exactly the same face with only slightly different facial features to distinguish what is which gender. :p I'm sure real-life Cloud in a dress would not be quite so immediately pants-wetting.

It would be interesting if, in real life, the only way you could tell what gender a person was by seeing them naked. Fix a lot of discrimination and confuse a lot of Catholics.
